| Katy Perry – E.T. (feat. Kanye West) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Honestly, while I'm sure it was not the intention of the three/four songwriters and Katy Perry, this song sounds like it's about rape. In all seriousness, because what are rapists to most people? Not human, monsters, animals, etc. What does the Rapist say here? "Imma disrobe you, than Imma probe you/See I abducted you, so I tell ya what to do/I tell ya what to do, what to do, what to do". With that in mind, this song is a morally repulsive. The lyrics seem to promote rape culture - "wanna be your victim/ready for abduction", even if K.P. only intended to express how glorious sex is or whatever. The music and rhythm themselves are not awful. Alien sex. Too bad it wasn't written earlier for Avatar. P.S. As of version of the lyrics 6/19/2011, people still haven't figured out the difference between "your" and "you're". |

| Linkin Park – Waiting For The End Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree with the relationship perspective. "Just a voice like a riot rocking every revision/But you listen to the tone and the violent rhythm/Though the words sound steady something's empty within them" - I wonder if it's that voice inside your head when you contemplating the end of a relationship. And each revision is like trying to justify the relationship. I love this song. I haven't listened to the album yet. I think Linkin Park shaped a part of my angsty teenage years. I'm glad they've come back with something I like (didn't so much like the last album. it was okay). |

| Natasha Bedingfield – Pocketful of Sunshine Lyrics | 16 years ago |
That's interesting. I didn't know it was about god. I feel like, it could equally be a song about falling in love. But that's probably because I fell in love recently. It's a song about being happy and unbreakable because someone makes you feel that way. There are places you go that can become your places because no one has taken the time to understand these places as you two have. |

| Lacuna Coil – Shallow Life Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Easily my favorite song on the album. Probably because it is most reminiscent of Unleashed Memories (my favorite album). | |
| Epica – Sensorium Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I love this song! However, I do not believe in fate. Everything is pure chance to me. One time I was thinking about the things I've learned, and I don't know if Epica was referring to this but "every answer contains a new quest" really means a lot to me. I feel this is especially true for science. We dig for more answer, and while we get more answers, we're also getting multiple new questions per new answer. Unconquerable world. But it really applies to knowledge in general, as evidenced by the ever-growing number of majors of study in colleges/universities and such. It's a great song for when you feel overwhelmed with the responsibilities of life. I'm in college now, so for me, I kind of want to go back to being a kid. Because you don't really think about major issues like global poverty or health or global warming or wars. maybe what is meant is that fate has been established in such a way that if we continue with our habits now, we'll end up a certain way (extinct?). Or thought our fate has been written because we've encountered similar issues in history in the history repeats itself manner. |

| Tristania – Destination Departure Lyrics | 16 years ago |
No comments? I just got the Illumination album. This was the first song to catch my attention. I was listening to the album while running, and this song came on and I just wanted to stop and lie down and listen to it. It's incredible how much this song can drag on me. It tugs at my heart strings, and I begin to feel sad even when I'm not. I think this song is about a woman who has lost someone close to her. I would say maybe her daughter because of "she should have outlived me". She can't be comforted by her partner/husband/friend. But after a death, like the male is saying, you need someone to help you through the grief and anger. |

| clemboy, you're right. It is supposed to be "why must we kill our own kind?" | |
| Lacuna Coil – Spellbound Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I feel like maybe this song is about how our mind wants us to act one way, but our emotional side wants to act another way. Maybe it's just me, but I've found myself stopping and wondering who the hell am I? Sometimes I'm afraid that my mind is trying to streamline me into a look or stereotype. Like, because I like metal, I must wear concert shirts and black pants all the time or something silly like that. Otherwise, I won't live up to metalhead status. That girl who obsess over her image in the music video, she could be thinking I don't look good, I don't like my image. Though without that mirror she might actually be quite satisfied with herself. When she breaks that mirror, we see that she's suddenly happy. It's like she's freed herself from her own oppression. I didn't really understand the other characters. Except the Superman guy who had been working out throughout the video. Where ever did the eating man go too? But basically, yeah, society/culture affect how our minds pick and choose who we want to be. But to decide to be one thing over another is impossible if we want to be happy. Besides being spellbound by societal pressures, we are also spellbound by ourselves and our own expectations. So, we need to forget any category, label, stereotype that we know, our expectations for ourselves, and just do whatever we want. I could see this also from a religious perspective (spells, candles, being haunted, drapes, whispering, etc), but I'll leave that for someone else. |

| Within Temptation – Deceiver Of Fools Lyrics | 17 years ago |
haha I totally read it like feathersoul did. Of course, then, I'm atheist with a pagan twist. I think saying this song is about a god who rules with fear would fit better than Satan since more people believe in god than in Satan. Plus, the song would be more fun and ironic. Everyone will tell you God/Allah/Yahweh is so great, and wouldn't it be ironic if there were only one God plotting the different religions against one another? Truly, he would belong to the dark. haha. delicious. |

| Atreyu – The Theft Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song is beautiful in a dark, somber way. Seems to be about taking all of a person's hope away...which I suppose alcoholism can do. wait, drink and then lose hope? Or lose hope and drink for that. Or drink and lose hope together. |
| Atreyu – Ex's and Oh's Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Is it weird that this song makes me think of vampires? Currently reading Anne Rice's The Vampire Lestat. I'm sure this song isn't about a vampire, but still. Besides the whole "suck me down," there's "taste of you" and "I drank too much." Plus, there's a lot of dark love sentiments (Ex's and Oh's). "cold rust taste" which could refer to blood though that doesn't strictly refer to vampires. yeah...of course, it doesn't totally fit. just thought it was interesting. | |
| Lacuna Coil – Cold Heritage Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song never made sense to me, until recently. I was especially confused by "Illusion falls when you're not honest about the way I feel." I thought there had been some grammatical error. But for me, this song is about two people. One or both of whom will not tell the other how he/she truly feels. There could be a fear that telling the other how he/she feels could ruin whatever relationship exists, especially since he/she depends on the other emotionally (saving all my words/falling on my knees only for you). This person is sorry for being so emotionally taxing, but he/she needs the other. So, much like Jefferson said. haha. "I'm so near to commit a crime." Maybe the crime is suicide? being a moral sin and all for some religion(s). Wait...what is this is about confessing? *horror* (me |

| Within Temptation – The Truth Beneath The Rose Lyrics | 17 years ago |
In addition to what has already been said (and I also think that this song is about the credibility of purpose in religious wars, crusades, blah blah blah), I keep thinking about Beauty and the Beast! Though, the Beast in this song-I can't figure it out. Does the Beast refer to our inner demons or our curiosity for the truth? while the rose in this song would represent, I don't know, something religious-y. This song might be about questioning intent, not necessarily questioning religion. "I believed it would justify the means/ It had a hold over me" could mean this person thinks maybe knowing the truth the person wouldn't be so confused, even if the truth were bad. Like-- okay, well, you guys kind of lied about why we're at war, but I'll keep fighting because at least I know that I'm really doing this for some other cause I partially believe in while still fighting under this facade--....yeah, not sure if you catch my drift. This song reminds me of Seif Al Din by Epica, which was written about Islamic fundamentalism. Check it out. :) unless you're afraid of Mark Jansen's (hot and awesome) growls... |

| Within Temptation – Pale Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's Lestat, not Lestrat, btw. That's a pretty cool interpretation, though. Campire...hahahahahahahah XD this song sounds so sad! (wow, look at me go with my alliteration.) but yeah, ultimately it's pretty inspirational for me. In fact, this should be every pre-med college students' theme song on the night before a major exam/project ("Oh, this night is too long/I have no strength to go on"). "I have to try to break free From the thoughts in my mind [...] Have to fight, cause I know In the end it’s worthwhile That the pain that I feel slowly fades away It will be alright" the lives I plan to save and my future children are my angels in the mist keeping me going. |

| Within Temptation – The Cross Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I don't think this song is very religious, if at all. I think WT is just using a powerful metaphor of a somewhat well-known tale of the believed to be betrayal of Jesus by Judas- who was possibly Jesus's best friend? in some versions anyway. Well, seeing how I'm atheist-borderline-Wiccan-and-buddhist, I'm gonna go ahead and admit I don't know the story. so, from the standpoint that Judas had been Jesus's best friend and favorite disciple or whatever, I think this song is about a betrayal committed by a best friend. And this best friend won't admit to having done anything wrong until it's too late for a continued relationship, though there is still time for forgiveness. or, of course, this could be taken from my personal, self-absorbed standpoint such that why doesn't my best guy friend realize I'm totally into him when I try so hard to spend time hanging out with him- even though I've only know him for a year- which is clearly very difficult while I'm attending college out-of-state?! *breathes into brown paper bag* "In my heart I still hope you will open the door" |

for cereals? like as a single + music video? awesome, I can't wait to see what they come up with. I watched a youtube user version with movie clips from FD + this song. It was really cool to watch. This song is almost creepy. but it's so awesome! only irked by the "can't take it no more." haha. |

| Within Temptation – Mother Earth Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"A new beginning always starts at the end" uhhh...I don't think that bodes well for humanity. especially since "until the end of time, she goes her own way". Essentially, if and when humans become extinct, Mother Earth will still be here preparing for the next evolutionary masterpiece! -------- "which feature the vocalist in a Celtic-inspired dress and walking though the woods." lol, nice. haha. but it's okay, because WT makes pretty awesome music videos otherwise! :D Of all the songs off Mother Earth, this and "In Perfect Harmony" definitely have strong pagan vibes. "In Perfect Harmony" just always reminds me of a line from the Wiccan Rede (In perfect love and perfect trust). PS. kyoxme, their new album has some songs about Christianity, yes, but I don't know if you noticed that those songs (TTBTR and The Cross and Hand of Sorrow) were kind of anti-christian. well, maybe not The Cross. I guess maybe "Our Solemn Hour" could be considered Christian? well, pay better attention to the lyrics. :) |

| Nightwish – Walking in the Air (Howard Blake cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I can't believe it took me a year to realize that I've probably heard this song before and I've probably seen The Snowman as a child! I think I shall go and watch it now. Maybe this song is about the power of imagination at any age. All we need is suspended belief and imagination to keep our spirits high. any takers? |

| Apocalyptica – I Don't Care (feat. Adam Gontier) (Original Version) Lyrics | 17 years ago |

hmm...so they changed the song a little for the music video...the lyrics changed a little too. that's awkward. I guess the US album version has the revised version of this song. :/ |

| Turisas – To Holmgard and Beyond Lyrics | 17 years ago |
hey, don't worry about it, MissN. Every time I see Bush give a speech or hear about another American school shooting I feel ashamed of being American. Well, generally, we suck. Ever country has its flaws! Oh, but Finland producing bands like Turisas is not one of them. At least you guys aren't mass producing crap bands or actors-turned-singers like Lindsay Lohan or Fall Out Boy. Haha. what a joke. I'm gonna go ahead and admit that I have a FOB cd. Therefore, I have the right to say they are too generic. I've got nothing to say about this song as of now because I only stumbled upon this band two days ago. Happy find! |

| Nightwish – Master Passion Greed Lyrics | 18 years ago |
what does writing black metal lyrics have to do with anything? And what are black metal lyrics anyway? Meh. Rock on, Tuomas. Even though he doesn't sing, his feelings bleed through nonetheless. Oh, we all hate Marcelo, but at least, his greed helped Nightwish produce an amazing song. :p suck on that, Marcelo. This song reminds me of Slaying the Dreamer. Mood-wise. |

| Kelly Rowland – Stole Lyrics | 18 years ago |
icanfeelthesoil, I feel the same way about gun regulations. I really wish that people would realize that gun control would resolve much violent crime. But instead, people think that by having the right to own a gun, they can protect themselves in self defense although in reality these people are unlikely to have a gun on hand to "protect" themselves in the first place. but whatever, I'm not here for politics. this video can still be very deep, and I know you scoff about it. But when I read it, when I hear Rowland sing "with his Father's 9 and a broken fuse...he's all over primetime new," I feel that the song hint at the issue of gun control and sensationalism by the media although maybe the greater issue still, in this song, is that our society isn't looking after everyone. |

| Apocalyptica – S.O.S. (Anything But Love) (Feat. Cristina Scabbia) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
ok, I have a confession to make. I'm not sure if that fourth line is "is it sex" or "is this sex" or something else. If anyone has the correct lyrics, feel free to post this and I'll edit the lyrics. please, though, don't flame me. p.s. the official video is out. :) on youtube anyway. |
| Kelly Rowland – Stole Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The music video to this song doesn't seem to fit the lyrics. I realize that the video is supposed to be the artist's interpretation of her own work, but I feel the song would be more effective being a song about a school shooting. I wonder if the song actually is about this boy and his two victims; maybe the producers didn't want to make a music video like that because it would be too graphic? I suppose it still does get across that message of "think before you act." | |
| Aiden – Last sunrise Lyrics | 18 years ago |
AsItBegan or anyone else, can you tell me which song of Thrice Aiden might have taken the lyrics out of? Honestly, I'm curious, not being an ass. Read "Interview With The Vampire." It is pretty cool to read after hearing this song. The Last Sunrise, besides being the metaphoric sunrise of our own or whatever, seems to be most significantly pertaining to Claudia's Last Sunrise (referencing the "angelic eyes" and "so mute and beautiful"). The song is also from Louis's perspective, most likely, who feels bad about Claudia (because she's only a child) becoming a vampire. Sorry if I ruined the book for anyone? The Last Sunrise as a metaphor has already been mentioned (and also explained by the band). So yeah, I suppose like everyone else has already said, it's about allowing addictions or obsessions take over your life so that you are less "human," so to speak. |

har har, "cuteiwwaf." your sad attempt to be original and funny makes me laugh uncontrollable. mission accomplished. now stand still while I kick your ass. back to the point, I like the Legion of Doom version better than their original version. Unfortunately, I do not have a refreshing interpretation of this song. I just thought he/she/it above deserved a reply. |
