Flogging Molly – The Ol' Beggars Bush Lyrics 13 years ago
I see it as almost a sarcastic "So go and bow your head and weep; For your world won't change while you sleep" in a sense that if you don't like your life, change it. It's not going to change itself. The line "For the summer that was lost, now is gone" makes me think you shouldn't waste time.

Overall, I get the feeling from this song that you should enjoy and love your life. If you're not enjoying and loving your life, it's time for a change.

Manowar – King Of Kings Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree with olla666. This is definitely my favorite song of the album.

I have a question about the narration part, though. I believe the lyrics posted above are incorrect, by the way.

"All the days of his life he walked without fear
All whose lives he touched
Were made better for knowing him
As he returned goodness with good
So too his justice and retribution were unfailing"

Is that from something? I've looked around and all I can find them in is the lyrics from this song.

Amon Amarth – Cry of The Black Birds Lyrics 17 years ago
"alright godsmacked33 I could see how you could interpret the album like that but Hermods Ride to Hel is actually about a viking legend that I don't exactly remember the details of"

This song is actually about my favorite Norse story. Balder was a favorite of everyone so his mother went around the entire world to get everything, living and non-living, to agree to never harm him. When she returned, the other gods were having fun throwing weapons at Balder because nothing would harm him. Loki was jealous so he disguised himself and asked Frigg (Balder's mother) about how she convinced everything to not harm Balder. She eventually told him that the only thing she didn't ask was mistltoe because she felt it was too young to understand her request. Balder made an arrow out of mistltoe and convinced Hodr, Balder's blind brother, to fire it at Balder. When he did, Balder fell dead. Hermod volunteered to go to Hel to offer a ransom for Balder, Odin let him take Sleipnir... this is where the song begins. Listen to the lyrics for a continuation of the story. Their newest album (Twilight of the Thunder God) didn't have the sequel to this song, but I've been told their next will. I look forward to it.

Oden (or Odin) is the leader of the gods in Norse Mythology. When a viking dies in battle, he goes to Valhalla, where he can fight alongside Odin and feast until the Ragnarok (twilight of the gods - a battle that ends the world).

Odin did have two ravens, blackbirds are often a symbol of death - but the vikings also used them. If they happened to be lost on the open sea, they'd release ravens and most of them would do one of two things - go nowhere, or fly to land. They could then follow the raven to land and figure out exactly where they were.

Amon Amarth – Gods of War Arise Lyrics 18 years ago
Well, none of you are really "wrong" as far as I see it.
The vikings were threatened by Christians, but they were raiding before it was a big issue for them. They raided for gold, slaves, land, adventure, and religion. They were actually pretty loose with their beliefs - a lot of them would adopt Christianity so they could trade with Christians while they still worshiped their gods. They raided churches because a lot of gold was always found in a church as the christians would always give valuables to their god and monks took vows of poverty and would give everything they owned to the church. The vikings would always kill as many as they could while their assailants were unaware and unprepared so they could eliminate them before they became a problem. Burning a church with a lot of people inside would eliminate a possibly large resistance. Vikings were raiders of speed and surprise.

This is an awesome song, one of my favorites.

Kansas – Closet Chronicles Lyrics 19 years ago
From Wikipedia:
"The band Kansas did a song about Howard Hughes, which they named 'Closet Chronicles'. It was originally on their album Point of Know Return."
