| Yo La Tengo – Double Dare Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This song is clearly about Marc Summers and being a contestant. In the first verse the singer is upset that he answered a question incorrectly: "I (the contestant) should know. You (Marc Summers) shouldn't have to tell me....we feel pretty bad." In the second verse the singer's team mate is taking a physical challenge and the singer is thinking about the home audience watching on TV "I see 'em look at you..." In the last verse the two contestants are going home after losing to the other team and are reflecting on the game and their post-double dare contestant lives. "We'll know where we are" Pretty straightforward song. |

"Jacob, Jacob Javits I'd like to thank you for everything Primarily your glass house" just fyi, this line refers to the [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Javits_Center]javits center[/url] which was designed by the famous architect I.M.Pei. It's primarily made out of glass, hence the line. |

| Superchunk – Cadmium Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Cadmium (Cd) is an element. It is used in a pigment [from wikipedia:] Cadmium forms various salts, with cadmium sulfide being the most common. This sulfide is used as a yellow pigment. Cadmium selenide can be used as red pigment, commonly called cadmium red. It is also an ingredient in cigarette smoke, which is said to cause lung damage and kidney disease. To me though, this song seems to parallel the self-destrucitve nature of smoking cigarettes with a doomed relationship. |

| Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin – House Fire Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Thanks for posting this. SSLYBY are a wonderful band. I wish their lyrics were available as they are difficult to discern at times. Anyway, heres what I hear on this song: We did what we could To save this house from falling But it burns because it's wood And now you’ll never call me darling I [coughed] your name I smoked all day And I [slept myself sleepy] [I was sleeping in all day] Don't let it burn Don't get confused Don't let it get to you We did what we could To save this car from crashing Your pretty face is soaked in blood [You know,] I still find you dashing [Airbag] suffocates You need a little space [Through rain on the windshield] I watched you limp away Does it have to hurt? Don't get confused Don't let it bother you Don't try to call you’ll lose it all Bad news, Bad news It's just [bad news] Seems like theres more going on in that last verse on the bad news part but I can't get any closer than what you have. As far as the meaning goes, he seems to be using house fires and car wrecks as a fairly simple metaphor for a failed relationship. |
