Helen Love – Debbie Loves Joey Lyrics 11 years ago
She met him 1980 in a school disco
He kissed her for the first time on the last bus home
He said "You be DEBBIE HARRY, I'll be JOEY RAMONE"

She saw shooting stars flash by
The moon exploded in the sky
Her heart flipped when they kissed
Star dust on her lips
Special vat in the dark
Getting pissed in the park
She's in love, she's in love

And when they walked down town all the people would stare
They used to laugh at her clothes and the colour of her hair
She was 17 and she didn't care
‘Cos baby's gonna take her everywhere

‘Cos he said they'd live in New York
And the stars would be their own
She was DEBBIE HARRY
He was JOEY RAMONE

Yeah he said they'd live in New York
And the stars would be their own
‘Cos she was DEBBIE HARRY
He was JOEY, he was JOEY RAMONE

When she met him she was standing in a pure white light
He said "d'ya like the SEX PISTOLS, have you got a light?"
And all the stars were shining on a perfect Saturday night
Holding him tight

Kissing him in the dark
In the back of daddys car
Have a drink have a laugh
Do you want my autograph
No school summers out
Make me wanna twist and shout
Down on the beaches looking at the peaches

When they walked down town all the people would stare
They used to laugh at her clothes and the colour of her hair
She was 17 and she didn't care
‘Cos baby's gonna take her everywhere

‘Cos he said they'd live in New York
And the stars would be their own
She was DEBBIE HARRY
He was JOEY RAMONE

Yeah he said they'd live in New York
And the stars would be their own
‘Cos she was DEBBIE HARRY
He was JOEY, he was JOEY RAMONE

‘Cos he said they'd live in New York
And the stars would be their own
She was DEBBIE HARRY
He was JOEY RAMONE

Yeah he said they'd live in New York
And the stars would be their own
‘Cos she was DEBBIE HARRY
He was JOEY, he was JOEY RAMONE

Comet Gain – Don't Fall In Love If You Want To Die In Peace Lyrics 16 years ago
Ok, corrected lyrics:

So keep me safe from harm
I promise to do my best
So stop me unraveling, stardust and sawdust
Conquered the sea, made its peace with me
There's no security in purity

So keep a special song, learn to play for me
Keep a stubborn heart safe from villainy
Stared at your sky through Bob Dylan's eyes
Just another baby blue that will break you

Save you and mistake you
Believe in you and deceive you
Electrify and upset you
Get drunk with you and secure you

My shoes are not made for walking
My eyes are not made for crying
My voice is not made for singing
My heart is not made for breaking

Fell out of bed when he said
"I don't want to fall in love"
But it's too late for some of us
Don't fall in love if you want to die in peace...

i think it actually says:

ending up in a little town

oh, the books layed there on the side
of the bed where we kissed and tried to hide
the world was so old and we felt so young

the kids at the club have faith enough

Voxtrot – Four Long Days Lyrics 17 years ago
Sounds like the aftermath of a long drug binge. The kind that gets started out of boredom and becomes an unstoppable force unto itself. Easy to get trapped in, hard to see the possibility beyond it.

Sounds to me like "you were so on time" and "take a moment, take a knife and then they'll put it in again" instead of what's written.

Voxtrot – Trouble Lyrics 17 years ago
Okay, here are the full corrected lyrics. I still hear Berlin, not burning, but both are represented.
-------------------------------

Somebody told me you're a junkie now
And that you've always been a junkie
Man, I never would've guessed that

I used to sit around and wonder how
People fall into a trap just to stumble off the footpath

And it's all peace, love, and harmony
To politics and celebrity
Second nature to the youth scene
It's a must see

Understand it's a curse
You've got trouble in your blood
Write a song, second verse
Underneath it there's a love
Recognize the things you do
You make a mess but baby, you know who
It sounds impossible but, man, it's true
You are the bad, the bad seed of this town

I bought your record out on Cherry Red
It wasn't good, well, it was great
I believed it was the next step
Somebody phoned and said the dream is dead
He's just busy counting coppers
Man, it makes me see red

And it's all a part of the balance that
You don't deserve all the love you have
It's the fruit of life, but you throw it away like candy

Understand it's a curse
You've got trouble in your blood
Write a song, second verse
Underneath it there's a love
Recognize the things you do
You make a mess but baby, you know who

Understand it's a curse
You've got trouble in your blood
Write a song, second verse
Underneath it there's a love
Recognize the things you do
You make a mess but baby, you know who
It sounds impossible but, man, it's true
You are the bad, the bad seed of this town

I've been boxing a match for one
Seven days in the Berlin [burning?] sun
All kinds of money and too much time
I've been running
Around once with town in a circle game
Double fists and a single shame
Oh, I am lost and lonely in the arms of London
She cries

I never would've done it
I never would've lied
I never would've done it
I never would've slashed my parents' trust
I never would've slashed my parents' trust

I never would've done it
I never would've lied
I never would've done it
I never would've slashed my parents' trust
I never would've slashed my parents' trust
If I thought for a moment you would leave me
With my big dreams

Slightly out of reach
Techno on the beach
I bet you made a scene in your million dollar shorts
You have to give it up and try
The future you deny
Underneath it all there's a motive to the force

Understand it's a curse
You've got trouble in your blood
Write a song, second verse
Underneath it there's a love
Recognize the things you do
You make a mess but baby, you know who

Understand it's a curse
You've got trouble in your blood
Write a song, second verse
Underneath it there's a love
Recognize the things you do
You make a mess but baby, you know who
It sounds impossible but, man, it's true
You are the bad, the bad seed of this town

isn't it "underneath it all there's a motive to the force" instead of "voice"?

Belle & Sebastian – A Century of Elvis Lyrics 17 years ago
I love the version from Munich in 1998. He changes it to be about Andy Symington, friend of the band.

"I think the first thing I told him about was me and Wee Karn because of how I was missing her so, and I was probably a bit drunk. We did it all over backwards, I told him. First of all we got to know each other, and then after a while we met, and when we'd known each other for about seven years we decided to have an anniversary, and that went quite well, so after the anniversary we had a honeymoon, and that went well too, so after that we decided that we would get married. Andy just looked at me for a minute, though, and then he said, 'So which did you like best, Blonde on Blonde or Dusty in Memphis?'"

M.I.A. – Banana Skit Lyrics 17 years ago
Seems like commentary on English as a Second Language instruction for refugees. Repeating words like "banana" is sometimes done to help learn pronunciation, but M.I.A.'s comment at the end ("get yourself an education") seems sarcastic in the context.

Pulp – Your Sister's Clothes Lyrics 17 years ago
Jarvis said this song is about the sisters from "Babies" some years down the line...

"Watch her as she's going down / it's easy when you stop pretending / that you just got lost on the way" & "Try it; you might like it / but you might smudge your lipstick"
So perfectly dirty. Brilliant.

Metric – Combat Baby Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is about missing someone and recognizing at the same time that what you had with them was far from perfect, with all the fighting and tears. Either way, the reasons you broke up are now even among the things you'd bargain to have back.

Belle & Sebastian – The Loneliness of a Middle Distance Runner Lyrics 18 years ago
I wish they'd record this song once and for all.

When I think of this song, I think of how I feel right now-- ready to graduate in two months, looking back at the past, looking at my future alone, and wanting someone in particular to be there with me in that future. Let's just get on a train, go anywhere, as long as we're together, as long as I won't feel this lonely anymore.
