| Fink – This Is The Thing Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
To me, this song has always been about a relationship that has run its course. The first verse is about how the relationship has changed for the worse; there is no longer love or warmth. The speaker has completely lost interest, they're "long gone". The second verse is saying that they're no longer intimate ("clothes on the floor" part). Eventually the speaker just leaves. Because the song keeps repeating, "I don't know if you [even] notice...", I get the impression that the partner might not feel as hopeless about the relationship as the speaker. As for the chorus, I always identify the "thing" simply as differences. Differences push the speaker and their partner apart, and therefore keep the speaker alone. It totally makes sense that the "thing" would be Fink's music career, though. All I can say, from experience, is that if you're in a relationship and you find yourself relating to this song: leave. |

| Mazzy Star – Before I Sleep Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song is so simple and haunting, like "Into Dust". The one thing I really admire about this song is the use of the Am7 chord. It almost sounds like it shouldn't be there, almost cringe worthy, except for some reason it just WORKS. It's so abstract and gives the song a dark little kink. The lyrics seem to be about a falling out between two people. The person singing is saying that they're over the other person and maybe that what they did was unforgivable or the last straw. The last part is saying that the antagonist will just be wasting their time if they wait for the singer to give them a second chance because it won't happen. It's pretty bitter, which is always satisfying :) |

| Citizen Cope – Theresa Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I don't think this song is about things falling apart at all. In fact, I think it's about things that haven't started yet. The narrator loves someone and knows that that person loves them back as well. They're trying to show them that you can't hide or deny your feelings, you just have to take the plunge. I gather from it that he's basically saying: look, we both love each other(these feelings don't happen by myself/yourself), we can't live without each other(breathing don't happen by myself/yourself), so let's be together(we could love, we can love). | |
| Wintersleep – Lipstick Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I don't think this song is about hiding your true self, I think it's about a woman who is influenced by the media and society. Her definition of beauty is what advertisers have made it up to be. Make-up covered plastic. To me this song isn't from the woman's point of view, but from an outsider's who is almost mocking her way of thinking. "Am I made of plastic? Am I made of sand?" She fills her body with these unnatural things to the point where she isn't even flesh and bones even more(obviously not literally). She's so fake and plastic that she would have to question what she's made out of if she ever thought about it. "Am I beautiful or worthless? Like there ever was a difference" is such a powerful line. It's saying that looking like the mechanical supermodels we're pressured to admire doesn't make you anything more than what you are. Being "beautiful" isn't everything in life, though some want us to believe that. Because after all, what IS "beautiful" and why do some people feel they have the right to answer that for us? |

| Bob Marley and the Wailers – Time Will Tell Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think this song is definitely about materialism, and, to me, makes much more sense now that someone has said that it was written after someone tried to kill Bob Marley. The first line is saying that power will never go to Babylon/the Western society. The second line I think is a sarcastic threat, almost a challenge, saying yeah, sure come on and kill me or any of us, it won't help. He's trying to tell us that the life Westerners like myself live isn't heaven, like we think, and that sooner or later everything will come crashing down, and eventually will become hell. |

| Apostle of Hustle – Cheap Like Sebastien Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song is beautiful. I love it, it just makes me want to get up and dance. I especially like how the very start makes it seem like the song is going to go off into some completely different style. And that hypnotic guitar riff that starts out soft, hammers out really loud and then fades out again and again during the last two verses... fantastic. I have no idea what this song is about. I'm not even sure if I want to know. The only other thing I have to say is that I think the line "A true professional is batting her eyes" is actually "A true professional is bound to get in", hence the next line saying that you just should do what they say, anyway. |

| Broken Social Scene – Backyards Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I've always heard "It's a heart parade, just be courageous". I guess "hard parade" makes more sense, haha. I haven't really read any other posts on here so whatever I have to say probably isn't new, but I think this song is about summer. I think it's about spending summer days just lounging around hanging out with your friends. In the summer you lose track of the time, the date, everything, and so I think "they lost their lives in backyards" is explaining just that. |
|
| Ingrid Michaelson – Giving Up Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is definitely about getting married and settling down with someone. She's obviously hesitant about the whole deal. The woman is giving up on the single life and thinking about what her life will be like if she gets married. I get the sense she's thinking way into the future when she sings about chasing her husband with a rolling pin and worrying about their baby coming home after 9. I think she might be afraid of turning into one of those bitter old ladies who--maybe jokingly--bicker with their husbands. This song is so cute and so real. | |
| Hey Ocean! – Alleyways Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
First of all, these lyrics are wrong. There are grammar mistakes like "know" instead of "no" and "will" instead of "we'll". Also, I don't think it's "inside roads" it's "and side roads". And it's not "I'll take the train tracks their" (even if those were the lyrics it would be using the wrong there/their/they're) it's "I'll take the train tracks today" like the very first line. Plus, there are many minor things that cause some lines to be one more or one less syllable. Which screws everything up if you're trying to sing it along haha. Besides that, I think this song is about taking chances. Maybe chances with love, with life. To me it's about moving forward at your own pace with someone you trust. Maybe about finally finding peace, finding your own way. I don't know... I'm just brainstorming. |

| That's so cool! That makes everything totally different haha. What a great concept for a song! | |
| Jon Foreman – My Love Goes Free Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
To me, this song has two different meanings with many variables in each. I can't decide which meaning makes more sense because they both do. Either it's two people with a daughter having a long distance conversation. The mother is telling the father to let their daughter go. The mother knows the tune because her father never let her go... Or it could be a girl giving the guy advice about letting his girlfriend go. The girl would know this tune because her boyfriend or past boyfriend won't let her go. I don't know... All I know is that this song is absolutely beautiful in every way. I can't stop listening to it on repeat. It's so stunning... |

AAH!! This song just forces this big silly grin on my face every time I hear it! It's so cute and so perfect and the instruments and the singing are just so dazzling! It puts me in this sparkly cloudy place and I'm stuck there until the song is over. It's beautiful. Anyway, I think maybe this song is about a guy who really loves a girl but the girl is falling out of love with him. She has stopped fighting back, she has maybe told him that it's his fault somehow (give me one good reason baby why i'd leave you here?) and she is obviously just giving up on their relationship. The guy seems like he really wants to make it work but wants her also to see that he's done nothing wrong. He just wants to hear her say she loves him again. It's pretty sad yet sweet. Great song. |

| Pink – The One That Got Away Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song always makes me smile. I can never stop singing it after I hear it. It's just so simple and cute even though it's not exactly about something happy. I love pretty much all of her stuff, but this song just sticks out as one of those nice refreshments when you just want some sweet chords and a beautiful voice and nothing else. I just have to point out, though, that the line "...those big brown LION eyes" is actually "...those big brown LYIN' eyes". It's inside her CD booklet thing. I see that mistake everywhere. |

| Zero 7 – Distractions Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Judging from just the lyrics, to me this is a woman singing to a wealthy, powerful man who is madly in love with her. Too in love with her, in fact, to fathom what she knows is going to happen(divorce). I think she's singing about how they'll have a huge wedding, some kids, the perfect life, but at last their perfect life will shatter with a messy divorce and she'll be the one with the "bag full of loot" and him "with the boot". In other words, I think she knows that if he marries her and they divorce, she'll end up with the cars, the house, the horse and he'll be the one kicked out and left with nothing. When she says "So go on mister, make Miss me Mrs you" it's like she's daring him to marry her, daring him to be that stupid. She loves him, but not enough to stop him. On the other hand, the music video portrays something completely different. The music video really plays up the sarcasm, making the lyrics seem so much simpler. Judging the lyrics and the video together, I have to assume that it's two people who love to hate each other, though they really and truly do love each other. Like others have suggested, maybe she's too scared to really love him. |

| This is a great song. Shampoo Suicide will always be my favorite, but this song is just growing on me, I can't stop listening to it. I have absolutely no idea what this song about, and I don't really think it matters. I just wish I knew the words being whispered at the end! | |
| Mazzy Star – Asleep from Day Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I'm surprised no one has commented on this song yet. It's absolutely dazzling! It feels like floating and sinking and flying and falling all at once, it is so great. I love how it's very depressing, but then the little hypnotic techno noises drip in and out and keep the song alive. I was surprised when I found out that such a song exists, a song that mixes the Chemical Brothers' music with Hope's voice, and what a stellar job they did. =) | |
| Jason Reeves – Permanent (w/ Colbie Caillat Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I don't think these are the correct lyrics. I think it's 'like weeds in a garden' not 'like we didn't guard it'. You can clearly hear the S. And also, it's not 'and I'm temporary' it's 'not temporary'. That one is incredibly clear. But anyway, this song is absolutely amazing. The first time I heard it I was just mesmerized, in a complete daze. It's so beautiful and perfect, yet so simple. I've been practicing it all day trying to get it down on the guitar, and I can't wait until I can play it without thinking :) |

| Oren Lavie – Her Morning Elegance Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song is so sweet and simple. I think it's about a girl who is lonely and feels like her life isn't full. Everyone has had that feeling where they look around and think "nobody knows". I think this girl in the song is so unhappy that it's hard for her to leave the house ("she fights for her life"). I love when songs are about something depressing, but have a nice upbeat sound. Songs like this are versatile, you can listen to them and cry when you're lonely, and you can listen to them and smile when you're happy. I especially love the lines, "The sound of water makes her dream, awoken by a cloud of steam. She pours a daydream in a cup, a spoon of sugar sweetens up." Very poetic and visual. |

| Josiah Leming – Theysay Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| God, this song is just mindblowing. I think it might be about two young people who are hopelessly in love to the point where to everyone else they literally do look hopeless. But they don't give a shit because they have each other. I just love this song, it's fantastic. | |
| Bran Van 3000 – Couch Surfer Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think this song is just simply about a person who is clearly on drugs and he literally just floats around crashing at all of his friends houses. This song is fantastic! It just gets me all smiley and bouncy, I love it. I love how the guy is just talking. This song is just a feel-good song. It would put me into a good mood any day. And every time you listen to it, you'll hear something different. |
|
| Broken Social Scene – Late Nineties Bedroom Rock for the Missionaries Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| On the back of the CD this song is called 'Late Night Bedroom Rock for the Missionsaries' but in the booklet in the case it says 'Nineties' instead of 'Night', just to clear that up. | |
| Oceansize – Music For A Nurse Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| To me, it seems like almost everyone here is partly right. This song seems like it's about someone really close to you dying and now you're missing them like hell. I think NiallB was also right, as well. That one line about seeing them again sounds exactly like they're talking about being a good person to get into heaven with them. This song is amazing and it blows me away every single time I listen to it. I get lost in the song and I forget how the beginning ever turned into the end. | |
| Wintersleep – Weighty Ghost Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I said they wanted to be left alone and also that they want attention. If that confused anyone, I meant that they're sick of everyone picking on them and they want to be left alone, but they want someone on their side, they want a home at the same time. | |
| Wintersleep – Weighty Ghost Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think it's about a person who has no idea who they are, where they're going, or why. They just kind of... doddle around without a purpose. "You can't kill something that's already dead, so leave my soul alone". They're dead inside and they just want to be left alone, but at the same time they're wondering where their soul has gone. It seems like they're very lonely and want attention "Have you seen my ghost?" "A ghost just needs a home". Anyway, I love this song! It's beautifully simple and it's very cute. It's interesting how a song that appears to be about something depressing is so upbeat. |

| Broken Social Scene – Shampoo Suicide Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is absolutely amazing. It makes me feel on top of the world and at breaking point at the same time. I just close my eyes and let the music take over my body, and I probably look like a fucking pyscho when I'm listening to this, but thats the vibe of the song and I like it. I just can't stop moving when it's playing. I love when it builds up and it's right at its climax. Broken Social Scene mixes relaxation, anger, love, and depression all in one song, and that takes a hell of a lot of effort. This track is outstanding and it takes an extraordinary band to give birth to music like this. Flabbergasting. | |

| Arcade Fire – Keep the Car Running Lyrics | 18 years ago |

| Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| wordsandbirds, not every song on here is about death! they named the album funeral because lots of family members and such died during the making of the album. i dont think this song has anything to do with death, maybe you should read the lyrics before posting. | |
| Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
My thoughts on the song are a lot more literal and simple than the rest. To me this song is a story about two teenagers who are madly in love. The guy's parents some how know that they are planning to run away together or his parents forbid them to be together. So the teens run away together but soon regret it because they are homeless or in a not so great home and end up having kids. The love seems to fade and they begin to long to be with their parents and be in a nice home with their old friends and family. 1)"And if my parents are crying then I'll dig a tunnel from my window to yours, yeah a tunnel from my window to yours. You climb out the chimney and meet me in the middle, the middle of the town. " --His parents are upset he is leaving/left. 2)"And since there's no one else around, we let our hair grow long and forget all we used to know, then our skin gets thicker from living out in the snow." --They forget their old lives with their families. I think their skin grows thicker because they are homeless and life is rough. Also, I don't think the snow symbolizes anything. I think this takes place in the winter and its cold out and that factor makes it harder if they are homeless. 3)"Then we tried to name our babies, but we forgot all the names that, the names we used to know. " --They have kids but forget the names they used to make up, sort of hinting that their love isn't as strong or isn't there anymore. 4)"But sometimes, we remember our bedrooms, and our parent's bedrooms, and the bedrooms of our friends. Then we think of our parents, well what ever happened to them?! " --Their old lives keep coming back to them. They miss their parents, nice warm bedrooms and their friends. 5)"Purify the colors, purify my mind. Purify the colors, purify my mind, and spread the ashes of the colors over this heart of mine! " --The 'colors' I think symbolize the memories about their past with their families and their home and old friends. It seems like all he's asking(or even praying) for is that his mind can let go of it and he can accept it. When he says "ashes of the colors" I think hes saying that he knows the memories are dead but he would like them to faintly be kept in his heart. I don't really know what to say about the chorus, it just seems like he's saying she changed his life and everything. |

| Dala – Drive Through Summer Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
i think this song is about a boy and a girl who are just friends but maybe like eachother they spend all summer together and the days just drag on and on and nothing exciting happens. then they go their seperate ways when the summer is over and never see eachother again... |
|
| Dala – Twenty Something Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i think this song is about two people who are madly in love with eachother but either are too scared to tell eachother or are too scared to take their friendship anywhere. the song is written from a third persons point of view and that person can see that they are in love and they think its disappointing to see that they won't do anything. | |
| Dala – Where have all the boys gone? Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i think this song is about a girl who has a boyfriend who spends all of his time with his buddies and doesn't care about her. hes told her that shes her everything but then he turns around and goes to his buddie's house. | |

| this song brang tears to my eyes and goosebumps to my arms the first time i heard it. this song is really great and i'm sorry to break this posotive chain but her voice doesn't sound very nice at all during this song. her voice is trying to go so high that it just sounds absolutely awful... but its a really nice song overall. | |
| Jewel – Daddy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| the first time i heard this song i was overwhelmed because you can really feel the hate and anger in this song and it made me just hold my breath waiting for her to just start screaming! this song is great! all of her songs make you feel what she is feeling and that takes a lot of talent. | |
| Jewel – She Cries Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I think this song is about a woman who is married to a man but she lives a secret life as some sort of a show girl or a stripper or something. She has no idea who she is anymore and I think shes fed up with being someone else but she doesn't know how to stop and doesn't know what to do. This song sounds so depressing and I think it's because the woman in the song is depressed and it shows that this song is incredible to get you feeling what the character is feeling. |

i cry everytime i listen to this song, but theres one part that just makes me sob so loud: I'll keep you locked in my head Until we meet again Until we Until we meet again And I won't forget you my friend What happened that part is so emotional! this song reminds me of my bestfriend and thats why i always cry. he didn't die but he moved far away and i hardly ever see him and almost never talk to him anymore so this song really gets to me... its such a gorgeous song and when i heard her sing it on much music i went out and bought the cd right away. |

| Nirvana – You Know You're Right Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
this song really makes me think about what happened to kurt. (im kind of trying to twist my thoughts into this rather then making it all about kurt.. but it probably wont work) i'm still not sure if i beleive that kurt was murdered or if he did commit suicide.. but this song kind of makes it sound like he commited suicide. "Never speak a word again I will crawl away for good" makes me think that courtney wasn't very nice to him so hes telling her he'll leave for good (by commiting suicide). i honestly dont know a lot about kurt cobain and courtney loves relationship, even though nirvana is my favourite band but thats because i love almost every song they wrote. anyway, the lines "I'm so warm and calm inside I no longer have to hide" makes me think that he was afraid of her in some way and that he felt warm and calm inside because he was finally going to get away from her and he would no longer have to hide from her: by killing himself. some lines in the song make you think he wrote this after dying, its really scary but it really makes you think. then the lines "No thought was put in to this I always knew it would come to this" makes you think he never really was in love with courtney all along because he knew he would kill himself. but it also makes you think maybe he was murdered and maybe he knew it was going to happen, he knew that courtney was up to something. overall, im still not sure if he was murdered or commited suicide, like i said. and this song just confuses my thoughts even more. but it is an awesome song, hands down my favourite by kurt cobain/nirvana. |
