This song has been sending chills down my spine for years.... And two weeks ago I heard Mark play it live in Stockholm. Now the chills are even worse, this here is like the most melancholy orgasm my ears have ever experienced. |

Bob Dylan – Mama, You Been on My Mind Lyrics
| 15 years ago
|
For me this song is about those (often drunken) moments of clarity you have in regards to past lovers, past potential lovers, past friends, dead friends, relationships that just aren't there anymore, or indeed, relationships that never came to be what they could have been.
This song represent these moments of clarity. Those rare, yet beautiful moments where you realize just how much of an impact all these past relations have made on your present life - Standing on that street corner with more than one beer too much in my gullet I smile like a sheep at times, thinking about that time I cried because I didn't get together with that girl, or because I've drifted apart from a friend. But at the same time, that drunken melancholy happiness jerks my mind towards those dead, but no less precious relationships of the past.
So to all my friends, girlfriends, would-be girlfriends - You'll be on my mind one night, most likely after I've had a bit much to drink. I'll think about you and smile, not because I want you back, but because I treasure what we had together, even if it was painful at the time, there was something in my relation with you that made me what I will be on that street corner. Drunk, nostalgic, happy. Sheepish smile on my face. |

Speechless... Such a wonderful song, and somehow Christmas time makes this song so much more powerful. |

Leonard Cohen – Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye Lyrics
| 15 years ago
|
When I heard this song for the first time, just a few days after learning that a woman whom I loved did not love me in the way I did her... It was just, so incredibly powerful.
Anything but the fact that I wouldn't get to spend another morning with her just faded from my mind as I sat there in the middle of all my friends and stared blankly into space.
Now, whenever I hear this song the moments she and I DID share, are played back to me... And partly thanks to Leonard, it is a fond memory, not a painful one. And that is really what this song has become to be about for me, as iluke1 writes, about accepting love that cannot be, and making it into a memory or an experience that is not entirely negative. |

Bob Dylan – Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
Most likely one of the most, if not THE most complete lovesong ever written - So precise and to the point without being overly obvious or "greasy" as many lovesongs tend to be. I just listened to it today with a wonderful girl in my lap. I decided a long time ago that Bob Dylan was the greatest musician of modern times.... But hearing this song in the context described above, it made me feel I owe Bob a great deal, because I cant count the moments of bliss that have sprung from his music into my life. |

Bob Dylan – Simple Twist of Fate Lyrics
|
Dylan never ceases to touch me and my life through his songs, it is almost uncanny just how he hits you where it matters, and feels the most, these lines for instance:
"He told himself he didn't care, pushed the window open wide,
Felt an emptiness inside to which he just could not relate."
I just sat with my mouth open the first time I heard that. Such a perfect description of how it feels to lose track of someone you think or know that you will one day grow to love. |

"79%? That's very specific!" Haha, aye! But I'll change the number to 49%, I might have been a bit optimistic with 79%!
I feel that the first verse is about the lad doing all the oral sex is absolutley beat after two days of hard partying. But then gets up and running again Penny calls him over to get cracking at her. |

I'm not much for Counting Crows overall, but the acoustic version of this song that's done with Sheryl Crow is bloody awesome.... It feels so heartfelt and honest. |

The Stone Roses – Elephant Stone Lyrics

This one time I was madly in love with a girl, and I thougt she was just as madly in love with me. But one night after some drinking she broke the news, the following weeks were just like this song. So that's what it's about to me, losing that dream of being with a certain person or having love in your life, and not knowing what to do without it. |

The Stone Roses – Bye Bye Badman Lyrics
|
This reminds me of the times when I was an active anti-fascist running about doing all kinds of silly things. Although it wasn't that long ago.
"Got no question got no love
I'm throwing stones at you man
I want you black and blue and
I'm gonna make you bleed"
Just sums it up, not willing to accept something that you perceive being wrong, and then being willing to use violence to change it. |

The Stone Roses – I Am The Resurrection Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
To me it's about caring fuck all about the people or things that are in the way of you living your own life.
Is it possible that this is a reference, and in turn a "hatesong" to the other Manchester bands that had reached popularity before them? The Roses never really did fancy the kind of music "the others" (Smiths, Joy Division etc.) were putting out there, did they? |

"Don't these times
Fill your eyes
When the streets are cold and lonely
And the cars they burn below me"
This reminds me of walking around Stockholm in the middle of the night with my camera, something I do quite alot. Those times have really "filled my eyes" and they do spur my imagination... Lovely song that gives me serious goosebumps. |

"They say love ain't nothing but a sore
I don't even know what love is
Too many tears have had to fall
Don't you know I'm so tired of it all"
These lines - Especially the way the singer in this band makes them sound just won't leave my mind. Iv'e listened to this song a great many times, never gets old! |

Just heard this live yesterday... I fucking love Oasis, they're my heroes. Screw the bad reviews, those who matter know where Oasis is at and what they mean to people!
@NikoZ the word acquiesce means to give in without fighting, just plain doing it. I guess it could "translate" to "Sail them home with ease" or summat like that. |

I love this song, as I do with almost every song with this guy. To me this song is about falling in love, being a bit scared of it, but at the same time really just feeling safe that youv'e finally found someone. |
