| Better Than Ezra – In The Blood Lyrics
|
During an interview with Songfacts the interviewer asks:
"In The Blood" is kind of like that, too. And that's one that used to drive everybody crazy, because they didn't know how to ask for it because the title isn't in the lyric. Can you talk about that song?
Kevin:
Yeah. "In The Blood" was inspired by this song called "Black Metallic" by a band called Catherine Wheel. Do you remember Catherine Wheel?
Songfacts:
I do, yeah. They were big on college radio.
Kevin:
Yeah. They're a British band. Rob Dickinson, by the way, was the singer in that band, and his brother is Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden. Small world.
A lot of people don't know what that song is about. That song is about a good friend who had AIDS. He got HIV and AIDS and he passed away in '94, '95. And it was literally about what's in your blood, and what we give to one another emotionally and through experience. But also just spot-on hitting the nail on the head physically. I never really explained that song, because it was from real life. But that's what it's about.
A girl I was dating, it was her uncle who was dying of AIDS. I was seeing what they were going through and this sweet man who was going through this, but I didn't want to be too overt or explain it too much, because then it would lose its thing and it would feel kind of heavy-handed. |

| Soundgarden – Fresh Tendrils Lyrics

The account given in Plutarch's biography of Marcus Licinius Crassus also mentions that, during the feasting and revelry in the wedding ceremony of Artavazd's sister to the Parthian king Orodes II's son and heir Pacorus in Artashat, Crassus' head was brought to Orodes II. Both kings were enjoying a performance of Euripides' Greek tragedy The Bacchae and a certain actor of the royal court, named Jason of Tralles, took the head and sang the following verses (also from the Bacchae):
We bring from the mountain
A tendril fresh-cut to the palace
A wonderful prey.[19]
Crassus' head was thus used in place of a prop head representing Pentheus and carried by the heroine of the play, Agave.[20] |

Self discovery. This song is about self discovery. Finding out something enlightening that make total sense. A pure moment of lucidity - yurika! Sometimes the things we see everyday we don't pay attention to why they make sense. It's like first understanding the seasons relate to the sun's positional tilt above the earth and the role of the tropics and the equator. Hence the solstice and equinox. And it all makes sense but you didn't understand the process before but now you do and it all just clicks. It's about self discovery too in the sense that when you've accomplished something you now have something new to move onto. Where that path lies is not always known. What is the next question? What comes next? Where will we go and how have we gotten this far to the point we are currently at? Time to reflect on things/life/future... |

| Rivers Cuomo – My Day Is Coming Lyrics

This song is great first of all, and my personal fav of Rivers's just behind Longtime Sunshine. It's about waiting for your "day to shine" so to speak. That is, despite inevitable lows, failures, trials, and tribulations, with perseverance and continued effort we will eventually realize our potential, which becomes our day to reflect upon our present efforts with unabated pride. Rivers also enumerates several U.S.-born soccer professionals, which to me is message of inspiration to the U.S. soccer program and its fanbase. Rivers is saying that U.S. soccer will one day realize their dream of winning on the world stage, which has managed to evade our country until present. Hang in there fellas, OUR day is coming! U.S.A.! U.S.A.! |

| Ween – She Wanted to Leave Lyrics

Of all the Mollusk tracks I like this one the best, especially the deliberately slow ending. It's a somber realization of disillusionment when the character begins to realize that the man he once was is no longer. By that I mean he trudges and later acquiesces with the notion that he has now become one of them (i.e., the pirates he speaks of) because he is going to steal back that which he desires, that is, the woman who has jilted him. Much like Will Munny (Clint Eastwood) in the Unforgiven, he fills his glass to the brim with alcohol because he knows what is to soon transpire will be epic and deserving of everything he has within him to fight for. |

Song is about Gwen and Tony Kanal's relationship. They were once lovers, but now they're not, they've both moved on, but they're still "cool" with each other. It's an amicable breakup, which, if you think about, is a really rare topic to sing about. Nonetheless, Gwen really sings it great and the song is really catchy. I like the message it sends and the video is pretty cool to watch while reading the accompanying lyrics at the same time. You almost feel like it's you experiencing the relationship even though you didn't meet these characters. |

| The Notwist – Consequence Lyrics

To me this song is about noticing someone who you're really attracted to at first glance. You can't get past the attraction and everything around becomes a total blur. You're not paying attention to anything else going on around, you're essentially paralyzed by the prospect of love. You're not planning your "move" but you know there are 'consequences' involved, you might not win her affection and your world at that time, which is consumed by her, would take a hit and come crashing down. So you sit back for awhile and just watch, you're "left paralyzed" and "hypnotized" by her for a moment. Does he ever eventually go up to her is the bigger question? |

| Alice in Chains – Rotten Apple Lyrics

|
Haunting, lucid, melancholy, visionary images distorted by the concept of original sin, eating the forbidden apple, and seeing the world as a sustenance-draining entity of greed, consumption, evil, corruption, disillusionment, angst, etc. The song is borderline creepy, which in song format is difficult if not impossible to convey. However, this song is possibly the exception and will give you a haunting stare into your own imagination, with sensations of distraught and disillusionment until the very last note. Rotten Apple is a mental masterpiece in the likes of which may never be duplicated. The creative genius behind Alice in Chains is exemplified in this, Rotten Apple. eat of the apple so young, I'm crawling back, to start... |

| Alice in Chains – Don't Follow Lyrics

First of all this is one of my top 5 favorite songs of all-time. The melancholy harmonies are amazing and the tune is played flawlessly. No one can or will be able to duplicate Layne's performance on this song. Unreal to think this whole LP was produced in like a week. This song to me is about just getting away and turning your back on the life you have been leading. I think we've all felt moments where we want to shake things free and just pack up and start a new life somewhere else. This song is about doing just that. The somber harmonies are haunting and this is, in my opinion, Alice in Chains's best song and most underrated hidden gem that most people don't know about since it wasn't a huge radio hit. It's the best and really highlights the band's versatility to play, no, MASTER another genre (80s hard rock, 90s grunge, unplugged live, acoustic country-like feel). In fact I have never EVER heard another band or musician perform this country-esque melancholy sound found on Jar of Flies. |

Layne is the master of melancholy and this song is no exception. It begins with a great explosion of energy and is powerful enough to get you to think about dying - in fact it consumes him/us in this song. From ashes to ashes, dust to dust, the grim reality is that's where we'll all end up. If this song is any testament to Layne we'll be joining our hero in no time. Peace Layne. |

| Alice in Chains – I Stay Away Lyrics

Not really sure what it means but I love the melody part, even though it is so short. I wish the melody part would have had more lines. Overall this is a great piece of their musical anthology. What I have notice in all my years is that of all the grunge bands AIC seems to be virtually universally respected and admired. They're virtually in everyone's top 5 for grunge and no one really says a bad word about them like how haters might trash Kurt, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, or STP for whatever reasons they might have. Unanimous consensus seems to be that AIC is probably the most revered of them all, which is something special to say if you think about it. A shame they didn't last longer is all I can say derogatory about them. Alice in Chains - the best of them all |

| Alice in Chains – Junkhead Lyrics

This song is just as it says, a drug junkie and how people who are not cannot relate to this lifestyle no matter what their books might say. The song rocks and what's amazing is how authentic this stuff really was. Unlike many (most) of today's artists, these guys (Layne, Kurt) were telling authentic accounts of their lives. Though they departed us too soon they have been immortalized in our hearts for the genuineness and extreme quality of their work. I can honestly feel the struggle and pain in his voice. Today's artists don't have this and I would go so far as to call many of them commercially driven frauds. I don't think think 10 years from now many of them will even be remembered but I assure you Nirvana, AIC, SG, STP and others will live on with respectability for their artistry. |

We have all had this happen to us - a girl goes for a total d-bag when you want her so bad but she doesn't notice you and is all into his dumb ass. This song is a FUCK YOU to that guy! | The Smashing Pumpkins – Cherub Rock Lyrics

Love this song first of all. This song could be about an acid trip that the user is paranoid and not thinking straight. Also, this song is a prime example of how they don't make music the way they used to - I haven't heard a song that parallels this in years, possibly a decade or so. The sheer force and driving angst behind grunge is long dead and sadly no bands have replaced the sound to something on the same level. Grunge is dead and rock music as a whole is a dying breed. God help us all... |

This song is amazing first of all, simple yet amazing, truly a rare gem to many, and one of my personal favorite songs of all-time (top 10). Like many of us, Rivers is fed up with the fast paced life and wants to just TAKE A BREAK FROM IT ALL. It's nice to have that escape sometimes and pause things around you and take awhile to appreciate the simpler things and take a break from living on the edge. The first time I discovered this song was during a walk on the beach and I played it over and over and over again that day. Every summer since I put this on my mp3 player and play like I am hearing it again for the first time - it sounds amazing every time. Thanks for this gem Rivers, you are a musical genius. |

On June 12, 2007 on the Howard Stern Show, a hilarious song parody inspired by Dr. Roni DeLuz was played to the tune of Doctor Robert. The lyrics refer to Dr. Roni as a ripoff artist and to her Martha's Vineyard Diet Detox as a sham:
Want to get ripped off? Then call her up Dr. Roni
She'll stick coffee in your ass not your cup, high colonic, Dr. Roni
Dr. Roni, she'll wrap you up in blankets from a moving van
She'll flush out crayons and worms from your can
There's no bigger sham, Dr. Roni
Hook up a car battery to a moving blanket, Dr. Roni
For 10,000 dollars she'll mix a shake, you drink it, Dr. Roni
Dr. Roni (fade out) |

| Skid Row – Get The Fuck Out Lyrics

Oh man you have to hear the live version from London to really get the meaning of this song. Typing it won't do justice to hearing the original but you guys have to listen to this shit.
To quote Sebastian Bach himself:
"Well listen man, I'm gonna do somethin' right now. There's a.. a little thing that I feel like it's my duty to tell you this shit here London ok. You know there's a counsel here in your town who tries to tell rock bands what they can and cannot do on stage... did you know that? Now we received a letter here... I thought we were in fuckin' Russia or somethin' man, I'm gonna read this to ya, do you wanna hear it?
(Crowd: YEAHHHHHH).
It says right here, 'You'll be aware that there is great concern being shown by the counsel that there may be abusive language used during the Skid Row show at Wembley.' It goes on to say here, 'we have great concern regarding the performance of Guns N' Roses and Skid Row and the press reporting of shows in America,' alright. And it says here... wait a minute who the fuck is this counsel anyways... do you people know? This is the best part right here, I really love this part, it says, 'the song Get The Fuck Out cannot be included in the set unless the words are ALTERED...motherfucker.' Now, and it says here, hang on , it says here that they're gonna stop the show because they don't like the word "FUCK"... and you're not allowed to hear it! NOW THE WAY I SEE IT, THE WAY I FUCKIN' SEE IT, IS THAT EACH ONE OF YOU PEOPLE PAID A BUNCH OF FUCKIN' MONEY TO SEE A ROCK N' ROLL SHOW, IS THAT RIGHT!?
(Crowd: YEAHHHH)
So, we wouldn't want to offend anybody but I just think that it's time to say to these people... Get The Fuck Out man. WHAT DO YOU WANNA SAY?
(Crowd : get the fuck out!)
What?
(Crowd : Get The Fuck Out!!)
WHAT!?
(Crowd : GET THE FUCK OUT!!!)
