Longtime Sunshine Lyrics
Sometimes I wanna pack it all up
Get on a bus and move to Vermont
Or Maine, or any of those states back east
That I remember
Sometimes I wanna go back to school
An east coast college with some history
I'd be satisfied, I know, in the simple things
Longtime sunshine upon me
Sometimes I wanna build a house
With a wood stove or a fireplace
In the middle of the living room,
An old piano
Sometimes it don't seem so bad
Settle down with a good woman
Leave this lonely life behind
Forever and ever
Longtime sunshine upon me
Sometimes I wanna get in a car
Close my eyes and drive real fast
Keep on going 'till I get some place
Where I can truly rest
Longtime sunshine upon me
Get on a bus and move to Vermont
Or Maine, or any of those states back east
That I remember
Sometimes I wanna go back to school
An east coast college with some history
I'd be satisfied, I know, in the simple things
With a wood stove or a fireplace
In the middle of the living room,
An old piano
Sometimes it don't seem so bad
Settle down with a good woman
Leave this lonely life behind
Forever and ever
Close my eyes and drive real fast
Keep on going 'till I get some place
Where I can truly rest

This is a beautiful song. The lyrics and CD booklet explain it easily.
I love it
It's about escape. Giving all the fake shit up to do what he really wants. It's a recurring theme in weezer songs, Rivers wanting to get away from his life.
Some people believe this song is part of Weezer's unreleased space opera Songs from the Black Hole. This song is Rivers just saying that he misses his simple life, and that he doesn't really enjoy being a rockstar. I love the last stanza:
'Sometimes I wanna get in a car Close my eyes and drive real fast Keep on going 'till I get some place Where I can truly rest"
I posted this on facebook, and people thought it was suicidal, but I don't think that. To me it sounds like he doesn't care where he goes he just wants to be left alone. That fits in with the way that Rivers usually thinks. He doesn't want to be famous; he wants to be alone, and happy.
This song is amazing first of all, simple yet amazing, truly a rare gem to many, and one of my personal favorite songs of all-time (top 10). Like many of us, Rivers is fed up with the fast paced life and wants to just TAKE A BREAK FROM IT ALL. It's nice to have that escape sometimes and pause things around you and take awhile to appreciate the simpler things and take a break from living on the edge. The first time I discovered this song was during a walk on the beach and I played it over and over and over again that day. Every summer since I put this on my mp3 player and play like I am hearing it again for the first time - it sounds amazing every time. Thanks for this gem Rivers, you are a musical genius.
