Likewise a really big favourite for me. Its such a beautiful song, and its always hit home with me. I think the line 'I was pledged to her for worse or better' speaks of marriage between the couple... What i really love is that in the first chorus it says ' better off with him than here with me' like its a fact that he's totally resigned to. The next chorus says ' maybe better with him...' His little bit of doubt puts the 'maybe' in there. I think the last few lines are just what tigerlilygirl and some_apology are talking about, its the quiet time at night when the past comes back to haunt us, and thats when he thinks of her and the mistakes he's made. A great record. |

I'm surprised that there aren't more comments about such an amazing song either... It means a lot to me too, its amazingly beautiful. I think its just a song about giving your promise of love to someone, and hoping that everything will work out. ' as the days fly past, will we lose our grasp, or fuse it in the sun?' Will we drift apart or become stronger with time? Its got so many great lyrics, its a little piece of perfection. |
