| Butthole Surfers – John E. Smoke Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I guess they're making fun of those country singers who always tell those boring stories onstage between songs. | |
| Melvins – Grinding Process Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Well, uhhh, Buzz's lyircs tend to be... about nothing at all. | |
| Melvins – Bar-X The Rocking M Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Err... could you explain line by line how this actually refers to anything? And that Night Goat thing... you got that from a website, don't you? (God I hate it when people quote information from sites, presenting it as if they discovered it themselves or something) Anyway, those aren't "different" lyrics, it's just a different interpretation by some idiot claiming theyre different lyrics. And I see no connections to anything, let alone Kurt Cobain in there. |

| Pixies – Is She Weird Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Hmmm,,.. I dunno but when I heard that song I also initally thought "vampire". I dont know if you know the "pen-and-paper" RPG Vampire: The Masquerade or have played one of the two official PC games or the trading card game. Anyway, that game is basically about vampires. Except they live in our modern age, undercover, having their own orginazations and battling each other. In that game there's also so-called "Clans" of vampires. One of those clans are the Toreador, who live a life very close to the one of an upper-class normal human. Eg, they live a life in luxury I have no idea if the Pixies even know/knew about Vampire: The Masquerade or if it even exitsed back in the time when they wrote that song, but the song reminds me of the Toreador. It reminds of their how they (in the game, of course) first seduct the mortal victims, only to suck their blood afterwards. This could also have been meant in a metaphorical sense of course. |
| Pixies – Vamos Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think think that song is simply about the life of immigrants in the USA from a rather satirical point of view. One of my favorite Pixies songs BTW. | |
| Pixies – Caribou Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I think that both the werewolf thing and the reincarnation thing are legit. I kinda like them both, that means. and @caitsith: Youre so damn right man. Kurt Cobain wasnt the "genius" that his fans say he is by far. I mean, listen to Nevermind. There's parts on there where he ripped off the Pixies, straight. Just listen to the songs On A Plain and Lounge Act. Theyre practically Pixies songs. And all through the rest of the album he copies the Pixies' style extremely often. All Kurt Cobain could do was being depressed and ripping off bands he liked. On Bleach he did a lousy Melvins ripoff and on Nevermind he did an OK Pixies ripoff. And, BTW: Nirvana, or Nevermind for that matter have nothing to do with grunge, really, and neither do the Pixies. If you want real grunge, listen to Melvins or Mudhoney or Green River. All the stuff the media called "grunge" after Nirvana's success didnt really have anything to do with grunge anymore... |

| Cannibal Corpse – I Cum Blood Lyrics | 20 years ago |
A challenge to all death metal kids on this site claiming they listen to "extreme music" : Download a few songs by a band called Lightning Bolt, listen to them for about 15 mins full blast and then listen to Cannibal Corpse for comparison. But be warned: Cannibal Corpse or any other death metal bands will sound like choir boys on tranquilizers to you after that "treatment". And yeah, if you cant handle Lightning Bolt, go back listening to your preppy death metal shit again. |
| Lightning Bolt – Captain Caveman Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Freaky lyrics. In the beginning it seems to simply celebrate straight-edgedness, but then it this sort of militant terrorist anthem. | |
| Queens of the Stone Age – Walkin' On The Sidewalks Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I think its simply a song about a robot who wants to be human. Homme calls QOTSA's "Robot Rock" after all and the next song on the album (first one=their best one IMHO) , You Would Know has a similar lyrical theme. |
| Slipknot – Wait And Bleed Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Los ticka toe rest! Might like a sender doe ree! You make a doll a ray day sender bright like a penalty! I think that explains this shitty mallcore song's meaning well enough. |
| Lightning Bolt – Dracula Mountain Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Meh. You cant understand anything he's saying anyway :P | |
| The Who – Heaven And Hell Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Its actually "Mold away" not "Burn Away" | |
| Melvins – Lizzy Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The chorus of this is heavily ripped off from the Pirates' classic "Shakin' All Over". Just listen to the song and compare. | |
| Melvins – Hooch Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Reminds me of these experimental dada poems, where it's all about the rythm you speak it in, not the words themselves. Only the Melvins can possibly have lyrics like this. |
| Queens of the Stone Age – The Sky Is Fallin' Lyrics | 20 years ago |
@guevaralives: QOTSA havent "been around under different names". Josh Homme had another band, Kyuss in the early 90s who invented Stoner Rock. Whem Kyuss split up in 1995, Homme founded QOTSA out of ex-Kyuss-members. QOTSA dont sound much like Kyuss BTW. So much for that. |
| Queens of the Stone Age – You Can't Quit Me Baby Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I agree on the suicide thing here. Seems likely to me. BTW: This song sounds extremely Kyuss-ish. It really sounds like one of the softer Kyuss songs... |
| Kyuss – Un Sandpiper Lyrics | 20 years ago |

^^^ Second'd! The lyrics are prolly, like many Kyuss songs, about some Band internal joke or something. |

| Kyuss – 50 Million Year Trip (Downside Up) Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I always understood: "It didnt take me long to realize That the world isnt meant for me" It very clearly talks about the drug escapism, hence the title. |
| Kyuss – Whitewater Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| As good as an album closer gets gets. Musically and lyrically the perfect ending for an album like Sky Valley. | |
| Black Sabbath – N.I.B. Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I completely agree with supernaut 1978 on the meaning. Simply about the ways the devil tries to attract people to join his side. The riff is one of the best in Sabbath history! Although its a bit of a ripoff of the riff from Cream's Sunshine Of Your Love, it still rocks as hell. |
| Black Sabbath – Black Sabbath Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Like many above said, this is one of the scariest songs ever recorded. Scared the shit outta me when I first listened to it, unknowing. Also Sabbath werent all that big satanists. The satanist image was made up by their record company for publicity. But back to the song: Like one poster above said, the song was way ahead of its time. It had the scariness Marilyn Manson has today (only a lot scarier!) , the depressiveness of Nirvana, and the Heaviness of 80's Metal Bands like Slayer or Metallica but it fucking 1970! People mustve freaked out when they first heard this |
| Sonic Youth – Teenage Riot Lyrics | 20 years ago |
JRuss: I wouldnt trust what Thurston says about anything. He's BSing when he merely opens his mouth. He once said that song was a call to vote Dinosaur Jr's J Mascis for President of the United States, which is more likely lyric-wise than Rick Rubin's beard. The song is about the commercialization of Punk. Nirvana did a lyrical ripoff of this in 1992 titled "Smells like Teen Spirit" about exactly the same thing. |
| Sonic Youth – Brave Men Run (In My Family) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Sounds like someone smoked pot and wrote down what was on his mind. XD Anyway, I have Bad Moon Rising, its a good album but exhausting to listen to. I only listen to it, when I can fully concentrate on it, else it drives me insane. |
| Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics | 20 years ago |
The song is simply about Heaven and Hell. And the "lady" is a stereotype for a person who tries hard to be good and nice in order to get to heaven. But that song is saying: Even if youve done bad things in your life, you can still get to Heaven by doing as many good things. So it IS about hope infact. About the hope that good things will happen even if youve done bad things in your life. And for the satanic backwards masking thing: Its complete hoax. I listened to that verse backwards without reading what it was "supposed" to mean and all I heard was the normal gibberish being produced when you listen to a song backwards. And when I read it, of course made sense to me because if the brain is given information on what something is supposed to be, it automatically comprehends it as what it thinks its supposed to be even if its something completely different. And to all those people who say the song is overrated and there are better Zep songs: Stairway is the ultimate Zep song because: 1. Its lyrically complex. Honestly, Goethe could have written that. (not literally) 2. It shows Zep's complete bandwidth. Their pastoral, folky side in the first half, their poppy side in the part where the drums come in, and their heavy side in the solo/instrumental part Dont get me wrong my personal favorite is "In My Time Of Dying", but you have to admit that Stairway is the best Zep song. |
| Led Zeppelin – Black Dog Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Many Zep songs are about Sex in some way. And this one is no exception ;D | |
| Sonic Youth – Death Valley '69 Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Well, that song isnt exactly on "ode" to Charles Manson, its rather an ironic point of view on the whole thing. I dunno who that Lydia Lunch is, but she sounds like a 10 year old trying to scream. But thats what gives the song a lot of its creepy atmosphere. |
| Queens of the Stone Age – You Got a Killer Scene There, Man Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Its actually "But even I don't know what the hell I mean" The mob thing standing here wouldnt make no sense |
| Green Day – Boulevard of Broken Dreams Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Its not political people! The whole American Idiot Album is NOT political. It simply tells the story of some Jesus of Suburbia-guy-fucking-something. I think greenday have said that often enough. And this song is about a rock (or movie) star whos career has ended and no one seems to care about him anymore. The "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" is of course a metaphor for an ended career. |

| Gorillaz – Rockit Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This song is practical joke like for instance the Beatles "I'm The Walrus", which was written because John Lennon got pissed off by people who'd interpret a deep and controversial meaning in every Beatles lyric existing. It pretends to have a deep meaning but infact hasnt any meaning so that people would try to work out its meaning but would always fail since the song has no meaning infact. Or for short, as John Lennon said when he wrote "I'm The Walrus": "Let the fuckers work out on this one" The song is also corresponded to the gorillaz "Reject False Icons" action, which doesnt have any religious meaning as Andrack said. Its a social thing about, for instance, not buying stuff from concerns that sort of enslave people in 3rd world countries or to not listen to any crap, Pre-made music like, for instance, Britney Spears. |
| Gorillaz – Man Research (Clapper) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I always thought it was "Kill that man in front of my door" | |
| Gorillaz – Ghost Train Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The vocals are generally hard to understand in this song. So dreamin' down a poison ivy tree could infact be something else. | |
| Gorillaz – Bill Murray Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Its a reference to the movie "Lost In Translation" that features Bill Murray as lead actor (the word lost is used quite often) | |
| Gorillaz – White Light Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| About alcohol, man. | |
| Gorillaz – Hip Albatross Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| ShesMyAlcatraz, do you realize 2D (and all the other gorillaz members) is in fact Damon Albarn of Blur? | |
| Gorillaz – Every Planet We Reach Is Dead Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I think the song is about drugs :-) No, seriousely I agree with the long distance relationship thing. |
| Sonic Youth – Plastic Sun Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Arrrgh that song is annoying as hell. I agree with Foogazi on the meaning. | |
| Queens of the Stone Age – Someones in the Wolf Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Whoohoo I was right! I didnt know that Homme read Brother Grimm fairy tales while writing the songs for lullabies! I honestly didnt. The lyrics just reminded me so much of the Little red riding hood that I had to write that. I thought it was far fetched at first but then bugmenot gives me evidence that my theory is FACT!! Whoo im really good at interpreting songs, am I?? | |
| Deep Purple – Highway Star Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I agree with JudasPriest1977 on the meaning. But why fuck is no one posting on deep purple songs? I mean its FUCKING DEEP PURPLE!! One of the greatest rock (and metal) bands of ALL TIME!! I cant fucking believe this | |
| Gorillaz – Dirty Harry Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I know a demo version of this song. It was called "I Need A Gun" at the time. You can find it on Damon Albarn's Democrazy Compilation of Demos. I loved this song even in the demo version (which was just Damon's voice and a drum computer). And I'm very happy that It's Included in the new Gorillaz album as a full song. | |
| Nine Inch Nails – Hurt Lyrics | 20 years ago |

| Nirvana – Something in the Way Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I dont know if Kurt Cobain really lived under a bridge but this song definitely IS about someone living under a bridge Either Kurt himself (if the story is true) or someone he knew or just someone in his imagination. The Song has quite a sad and depressive mood and i think it captures the atmosphere of what i think having to live under a bridge must be like. |
| Melvins – Revolve Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I love how this song changes moods. In the beginning and during the whole singing part its sorta heavy but when the guitar solo comes it gets a little softer and bluesier. Buzo's voice here reminds me of james hetfield. especially in the first verse. when i heard it the first time i thought it could even be one of the later, slower metallica songs. (Forgive me). And for the meaning: Melvins Songs generally have no meaning. The Melvins just wanted not to fit the heavy metal cliche. And while other metal bands had lyrics about satan and war and drugs and stuff the Melvins' lyrics were about nothing at all. Same for the record cover artworks. Other metal bands have overdrawn satanic or fantasy or SF images on their albums but the Melvins had things like Swans or baskets full of fruit there. Thats another great aspects of one of the most overlooked bands of all time (besides Kyuss). And the Melvins are the true inventors of Grunge. They existed long before Kurt Cobain founded Nirvana with Krist Novoselic. All in all the Melvins rule. |
| Nirvana – Moist Vagina Lyrics | 20 years ago |
The original from Sonic/Ciccone Youth whatever :-) is also called moist vagina i believe. and its definitely NOT marijuana!! Thats just the name some stupid bootleggers gave it. Remember that untitled sowng with something about a ring in its lyrics was called Bambi slaughter by some bootleggers? The real Bambi Slaughter is a song from the legendary fecal matter tape that has, according to the FAQ made by mike ziegler, nothing to do with the bootlegger's Bambi Slaughter! It just shows how stupid some bootleggers are giving songs wrong names or even worse names of other songs. (Some people on kazaa are that stupid aswell) @ all those dumbasses: GO FUCK YOURSELF! |
| Nirvana – Sappy Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Lemme tell you what i think this song is about: When you're in prison or sth like that and one of the prison guards does a small nice thing to you like giving you a photo of your wife/husband who's waiting for you at home if you shut the fuck up and "behave nicely". You will be happy when you recieve this little "gift" but after all, youre in prison, man! :-) So its still horrible even if they make a little better for you. This is just an example i think it works with dictatorships and america :-) and all places where people are oppressed. |
| Metallica – Eye of the Beholder Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The whole album is all about politics. And this one is about media censorship as already said | |
| Queens of the Stone Age – Someones in the Wolf Lyrics | 20 years ago |
"Gone bad" is not the right expression I think european fairy tales are generally not nice. Sometime very cruel and even sick. For those who don't Little Red Riding Hood: Its about a girl walking through dark woods to visit her grandma. As she arrives she realies that the wolf, whos of course the evil guy had eaten her grandma and is now living in the house. He eats the girl aswell. Then the girl calls an hunter cuts open the stomach of the wolf and gets the girl and her grandma out. And if thats not enough gore: The hunter placesm some stones in the open stomach of the wolf (sic!) and puts him in a well where he drowns (sic!!!). This is the story i think this is based. It's a german fairy tale. If you dont believe me, read it somewhere!! |
