Porcupine Tree – This Long Silence Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think this song is so freaking awesome. It seems incredibly underrated among PT fans. Deff one of my faves from On the Sunday of Life. I have no clue what the lyrics point to though. |
Porcupine Tree – The Sky Moves Sideways (Phase One) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Yeah, Ogre seems right. I think the lyrics describe a drug trip and what someone senses during it. |
Porcupine Tree – The Moon Touches Your Shoulder Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The first verse somehow seems like it would have something to do with college, and the spring semester ending. Whoever this is doesn't want to head back home to his or her parents: "Springtime is over / Don't head for home". Instead, this person wants to do more adventurous things during summer, and explore the world. I dunno, this explanation sounds quite silly even to myself, but from the first verse, I kinda get this feeling. I think the whole song is about being free and experiencing things while you can. |
Porcupine Tree – Jupiter Island Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This is probably the most catchiest song I've ever heard. I had just heard the song once, and I couldn't get the thing out of my mind for about a week. Then I didn't listen to it for months, but I still remembered the chorus and verses perfectly. Now that's catchiness. Oh and yes, I have so many memories of the weekend I first heard this song. It just happened to be on an island, and much fun was had. Bottom line is, Jupiter Island kicks my ass. |
Porcupine Tree – Lips of Ashes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
By the way, when I say drugs, it seems unclear to me whether it is heroin or in fact morphine, as GroovyJude suggests. I'm beginning to think it's the latter now. |
Porcupine Tree – Lips of Ashes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Probably my favorite PT song. Yes, I believe you may be onto something GroovyJude. I've always imagined this song to be about drugs and/or death. Haven't known or heard anything much further than that though. I have a question. In the beginning, what are those weird strings? Is that a specific instrument? I know a hammered dulcimer is also used towards the beginning, but what about in the VERY beginning? |
Porcupine Tree – Footprints Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Drugs on the beach? |
Porcupine Tree – Mellotron Scratch Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Steven has said that this song is about a girl he once knew who cried at the sound of mellotrons. Quite strange if you ask me. |
Porcupine Tree – The Nostalgia Factory Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Awesome song. I think the whole of the Nostalgia Factory cassettes and the fake history of Porcupine Tree contained within the cassettes had meaning in that they generalized the modern prog scene as a "Nostalgia Factory", constantly rehashing everything from the 70's and never coming up with anything creative. Not sure that the song has anything to do with this, but I thought I'd bring it up. |
Porcupine Tree – Lightbulb Sun Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This is one of my all-time favorite Porcupine Tree songs. I love the vibe and everything about the song. Anyway, it seems pretty clear that the lyrics tell of nostalgia that one feels for their childhood. In this case, even memories of being sick (staying home from school, watching TV, being cared for, and craving to finally be able to go outside and see the world again after you get over your sickness) can cause someone to be nostalgic for their childhood. |
Pink Floyd – San Tropez Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Those lyrics are WAY off. Here are the correct lyrics: As I reach for a peach Slide a rind down behind The sofa in San Tropez. Breakin' a stick with a brick on the sand. Ridin' a wave In the wake of an old sedan. Sleepin' alone in the Drone of the darkness, Scratched by the sand that Fell from my love, Deep in my dreams and I Still hear her callin' "If you're alone, I'll come home." Backward and homebound, The pigeon, the dove, Gone with the wind And the rain, on an airplane. Owning a home With no silver spoon, I'm drinking champagne Like a good tycoon. Sooner than wait for A break in the weather, I'll gather my far-flung Thoughts together. Speeding away On the wind to a new day. And if you're alone I'll come home. And I pause for a while By a country style And listen to the things they say. Diggin' for gold With a hoe in my hand. Open a book Take a look at the way things stand. And you're leading me down To the place by the sea. I hear your soft voice Calling to me. Making a date for Later by phone And if you're alone I'll come home. |
Blur – Intermission Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song always gets me psyched up. It's a bizarre track, evolving from a piano tune into a loud, noisy uproar of a song. Really cool. |
The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Astro Man Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Oh man, I love this song so much, good lyrics |
Alice in Chains – Sickman Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Takes a couple listens to get used to, but a great song after that. The lyrics tell of how the world is a place you wouldn't want to live in, so it doesn't matter too much if you live or die ("what's the difference, I'll die/ In this sick world of mine"). It's obvious that drugs inspired this song. |
Live – You Are The World Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is based off the book, You Are The World, which was an inspiration to Ed at the time. |
Radiohead – You Never Wash Up After Yourself Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song is so simple, yet really good. I read somewhere that it was recorded in one try, and it has never been played live. |
Pink Floyd – The Nile Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Superb song! And the fact that this type of song was performed in 1969 is brilliant. They were way ahead of their time on this one. It also shows that Pink Floyd could have taken on different types of music and still be successful with it. |
Pink Floyd – Pigs (Three Different Ones) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
So did anyone figure out what the second verse is about (specifically)? |
Blur – Death of a Party Lyrics | 19 years ago |
One of my fav Blur songs for sure |
Blur – Essex Dogs Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Yeah, I really like this song, too. Very experimental for Blur -- it sounds a little bit Radiohead-ish |
Blur – Jubilee Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song's lyrics sound like they're about someone I know |
Blur – London Loves Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Really cool song |
Blur – Trouble in the Message Centre Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is my favorite Blur song. Great chord progression, and it's hardly 'pop' at all. Excellent. |
