Vanessa Paradis – Joe Le Taxi Lyrics | 19 years ago |
yep, that's basically it! here's a translation - its such a cute song! Joe the taxi (cab driver) He doesn't go everywhere He doesn't work on soda His yellow sax (saxophone is a metaphor for his yellow cab) Knows all of the streets by heart All of the little bars All of the dark corners And the Seine And its bridges that shine In his car Joe's music It's the "rumba" From old "rock" to "mambo" Joe the taxi It's his life The rum with "mambo" Traffic jam He's like that Joe - Joe - Joe In his car Joe's music resonates It's the "rumba" From old "rock" to phony "mambo" Go Joe Go Joe Speed along In the night towards the Amazon Joe the taxi And Xavier Cugat (famous musician apparently?) Joe the taxi And Yma Sumac (musician again?) Joe - Joe - Joe Joe the taxi It's his life The rum with "mambo" Traffic jam Joe the taxi And the Mariachis Joe the Taxi And the "cha-cha-chi" Go Joe Speed along In the night towards the Amazon |
Vanessa Paradis – Pourtant Lyrics | 19 years ago |
yeah, that's kind of it, but i dont think it's that the guy's with someone else...more that he's worrying about things and asking about what happiness means to her, and she's basically saying that it shouldn't frighten him or something. Here's a translation by by french friends Gwen & Amelie anyway; Pourtant - Nevertheless You asked yesterday My opinion of happiness Without looking like it now you worry Peace seems to frighten you I am firering up (teasing) this love The twigs flutter You are dazzled It's my secret life Nevertheless... Nevertheless... Nevertheless... The words are, the words do, the words say The words flow, the words roll on a string Me, I leave these microbes, these missiles For the talkative (chatterbox/gossips), for the poets if possible Oh... I love you so when you explain yourself It's funny but... I put the fashions and the recipes away Put the box on fire, my heart This little sacrifice stays for me A dizziness, a warmth (heat) I am firering up (teasing) this love The twigs flutter You are dazzled It's my secret life Nevertheless... Nevertheless... Nevertheless... You know, you asked me yesterday My vision of happiness Eh well, each day it's clearer to me It won't frighten us anymore I am firering up (teasing) this love The twigs flutter You are dazzled It's my secret life Nevertheless... Nevertheless... Nevertheless :) |
Vanessa Paradis – La la la song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
awww, this song's really pretty too. I love the ballads on Bliss. especially the lines "if it's an illusion let it flow, right or wrong I don't wanna know" and "if it's a dream then let me sleep" =) ohh and if you havent heard it live, you must! IMO it sounds even better. |

it's such a beautiful song :) and yeah, the last bit is "stay deep inside of me...5 minutes until infinity". According to French friends of mine she's actually talking about sex, and the 5 minutes until infinity is supposed to be orgasm lolll! But I've been told that although it sounds quite vulgar in english, the way she words it in french it doesnt come across that way, it's actually very sweet. Yeah, parts of this song don't make much sense really, but it sounds so pretty! She really puts across her love for Johnny. |

I have a theory about this song which I know is not true lol, but this is what I first thought when I heard the song. Ok, my theory is that the girl in it has killed herself, but she did it in the heat of the moment and doesn't actually realise that she's dead, so her subconcious is talking to her and letting her know. so, the line: "Has no one told you she's not breathing ?" could be her mind bascially referring to herself in third person, and looking down on the body and explaining to her that she's dead. The bit where she sings: "If I smile and don't believe Soon I know I'll wake from this dream Don't try to fix me I'm not broken" could be where she's in disbelief over her death, and thinks she'll wake up. She's saying 'don't fix me, i'm not broken' because she's sort of looking down on her body and seeing people all around it and doesnt understand why. Then, finally the bit which says: "Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping Hello, I'm still here, all that's left Of yesterday.." is when the realisation suddenly hits her and she knows she's not just asleep, but she's desperately trying to say that she's not dead, and that she's still there (if you've seen The Others, like in the end of that). So yeah, I know it's not the actual meaning (please dont yell at me because i know it's not!) but it's an interesting slant on it, don't you think? It's what I always thought, anyway. |
