| I'm pretty sure it was officially ruled as a suicide, but people suspect that his girlfriend could have killed him. She pulled the knife out of his chest which had her fingerprints on it. I'm really not sure what kind of interrogation she went through or how in depth the investigation was, but it doesn't seem like it took them very long to determine that it was indeed a suicide. I guess we'll never really know. All I know is that I miss him very much. He is my favorite musician and one of the best persons I've ever met. | |

You people have it all wrong. This song is about Brian Wilson. He has schizophrenia and if you know the symptoms of it, the lyrics match perfectly. "They come on like they're peaceful But inside they're so uptight" This is true with schizophrenics. They are often some of the nicest people you will ever meet, but inside they are torn apart and detached from the world. They often don't know how to react to different emotions, so even if something offends them, they will often just laugh it off or ignore it completely. "They trip through their day" This can mean one or two things... or both I guess. First, schizophrenics are known to be heavy drug users. It's "self medication" as they say. So "trip" could mean tripping on drugs. And you know, it's reported that Brian Wilson started doing LSD right before he wrote Pet Sounds. Secondly, it could mean just being disoriented all day. Schizophrenics are very disoriented people. They have trouble following along with conversations, their minds wander, and they are constantly paranoid about certain things. I tend to think the latter more than the former. "And waste all their thoughts at night" Schizophrenics are known for staying up very late at night and sometimes staying up for days. Their minds get too cluttered with thoughts and paranoia, that they can't settle their mind well enough to fall asleep. "I know there's an answer I know now but I have to find it by myself" The most important lines in the song. He's saying "he" has to "find it by himself." Which indicates to me that the answer is not for someone else, but really for him. |
