Jim O'Rourke – Get A Room Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is such a beautiful song. I agree with much of Phrogex's comments, though I do not understand how a canopy allows him to see like that. I see the canopy as something that hovers over him, which expresses just how "low" he feels about himself in relation to others....as he screws up their plans, etc. I think the end of it is about his death. Perhaps he doesn't have to work the next day cause he got fired. And he picked a woman to experience his suicide? Just a thought...might be wrong...probably is.... |

Built to Spill – Carry the Zero Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"I'm not knocking your want to carry that home" I believe he's talking about a woman carrying some heartache from a past relationship into his relationship with her.... "Took it with you when you moved and got it broke" Her heartbreak? "Found the pieces, we counted them all alone" He helped her get through the pain of the heartbreak... "Didn't add up, forgot to carry a zero" She was never left alone with no one because he was there for her... "I can't be your apologist very long" He can't keep coming up w/ excuses for her not getting over it.... "I'm surprised that you'd want to carry that on" Her heartache is getting old.... "Count your blemishes you can't they're all gone" He's gone now... so she can look look at all of her flaws and mistakes on her own... "I can't see your response putting them back on" He's gone.... cannot deal w/ her bringing past heartache up yet again.... "Like they're waiting for your guard to fall" As soon as she becomes vulnerable, all the heartache creeps back.... "So they can see it all" Vulnerability begets more heartache.... "And you're so occupied with what other people are occupied with And vice versa" She's obsessed w/ these past relationships and those guys are probably creeping back into her life as well.... "And you've become what you thought was dumb. A fraction of the sum, the middle and the front" Great lines! My favorite! At one point she seemed to be at a point of being beyond these problems, but she regressed, and she is still not "whole." Her heart is still broken. Part of getting over the hearbreak is acknowledging the emptiness we must all endure. "And now it's coming back hasn't come too far" He tries to re-establish something w/ her but it cannot get to where it once was... "I was trying to help but I guess I pushed too hard" Another favorite line. He played the doctor, trying to help her through the situation, but he was trying to fix her too much... "And now we can't even touch it....Afraid it'll fall apart" Now both of their hearts are a mess. They have gone back and forth so man times that they have to just avoid eachother or else one or both of their hearts would be destroyed. I think this song is about a guy who had feelings for a girl who still had feelings for another guy (or guys.) He tried helping her through it, and got emotionally tied up with her.... (or at least that's what was happening with me when I couldn't stop listening to this song!!) |
Iron Maiden – Stranger In A Strange Land Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Don't know about the 1800's explorer thing, but I would think that like Childhood's end or Brave New World, this song is based on the book of the same name (Robert Heinlein.. Good book =]) |
Black Sabbath – War Pigs Lyrics | 19 years ago |
1: This is a fucking great song. The beginning is powerful, the middle section is awesome, and the end solo (I believe it's called "Luke's Wall") is so fucking great... one note/chord in particular... you all know which one I'm talking about... 2: Yes, it is antiwar. It protests against the Vietnam war. The cover of Paranoid shows a Vietnamese soldier, and the original title was going to be War Pigs. But that was changed. 3: Agree with Megeddo. 4: There's an old Black Sabbath concert vid from 1970 floating around. It's really cool. It has a lot of "original" lyrics to songs. Like Fairies Wear Boots was basically the chorus over and over. War Pigs involved throwing "the priest into the fire." There are rumors that it was originally going to be a completely different song about witch trials or whatever. |
Metallica – The Call of Ktulu Lyrics | 19 years ago |
ChildofMetallica: Ktulu is an alternate spelling of Cthulhu, an alien monster which hibernates on earth, until the Great Old Ones arrive. That\'s if I recall correctly. I love the end of this song. It\'s so fucking powerful, the massive chords and everything; it really feels like the end of humanity. And the bass is wicked. This is my favourite Metallica song ever. |
Tool – Message to Harry Manback Lyrics | 19 years ago |
And I quote: MESSAGE TO HARRY MANBACK Hotsy Menshot from Green Jelly (a jokemetal band in which Maynard debuted as one of the Three Little Pigs explains: “The voice on Message to Harry Manback is my old friend Francesco, (from Rome, Italy) who would come and live with me and my old roommate Jerry, off and on. I kicked him out after he stole some possessions from Jerry, and he called that night on the answering machine because he was afraid of me, and couldn’t threaten me to my face. He was 6’2” but only weighed 130 pounds and looked like Ichabod Crane from Sleepy Hollow. I could’ve broken him like a twig. He called back again the next morning, and that message was finally heard on Message to Harry Manback II on Salival. Anyway, everyone used to imitate it from my impression, even though they have never heard it. Years later, I found the tape and played it for Figlio di puttana, sai che tu sei un pezzo di merda?* Hm? You think you’re cool, right? Hm? When you kicked out people [out of] your house? I tell you this, one of three Americans die of cancer, you know? Asshole. You’re gonna be one of those. I don’t have the courage to kick your ass directly. Don’t have enough courage for that, I could, you know. You know you’re gonna have another accident? You know I’m involved with black magic? Fuck you! Die. Bastard! You think you’re so cool, hm? Asshole. And if I ever see your fucking face around, In Europe or Italy, Well I’ll — That time I’m gonna kick your ass. Fuck you! Fucking Americans, Yankee. You’re gonna die outta cancer, I promise. Deep pain... No one does what you did to me. You wanna know something? Fuck you! I want your balls smashed, eat shit! Bastard! Pezzo di merda, figlio di puttana.** I hope somebody in your family dies soon. Crepa, pezzo di merda, e vai a sucare cazzi su un aereo!*** * Son of a bitch, do you know you’re a piece of shit? ** Piece of shit, son of a bitch. *** Die, piece of shit, and go suck dicks on a plane! Maynard, who by this point, was my roommate. Next thing I knew, a few edits, some piano ... viola! ... “Harry Manback” is a joke name from the famous comedian, Bill Hicks (deceased)” |
Arcade Fire – Neighborhood #2 (Laika) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Laika is a style of Greek music, basically the equivalent to English pop. Cf 'https://www.greekmusic.com/category_s/22.htm': "The dominant Greek musical form "Laika" means popular. This music was born in the cities of modern Greece, with the bouzouki as the central instrument to this type of music. Names like Kazantzidis, Dalaras, Karras, Stanisi, Glykeria and many more are featured in this [category] which is very broad." It's also pronounced l-eye-ika in the song, as a Greek would say it. I think Alexander could be a reference to Alexander the Great. |

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Otherside Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I love this song, it's awesome. I think it can be about drug use, though. "I yell and tell it that It’s not a friend I tear it down I tear it down And then it’s born again " He yells and tells himself that drugs aren't good for you, and he tears it down and tries to get rid of his addiction, but yet it is born again. |
