I think this song doesn't have a definitive meaning. The first two verses seem to be about a guy can't finding a girl, and when he does, 'its only bad luck and trouble'. The last two verses seem to be about the business world, usually not a zeppelin topic lyrically, but it makes sense. It's lonely at the bottom of the business, but you have alotta stuff on your plate at the head of the corporation, and when ur the middle man, ur basically everybody's bitch and you can't stop and rest cause your either taking or giving out orders. The chorus are basically self explanatory. They could have a connection to all verses in this song, by a lonely man just saying to a girl 'i need your love cause i have no one else', or a business man saying to his girlfriend/wife 'i need your love to forget about all the problems at work just a thought |

I don't think that the entire song is about LOTR, just the one verse that mentions, gollum, etc. Sounds like The Rover lyrics are influenced by these, such as: "...I'm goin' 'round the world, I got to find my girl, on my way. Werumm hit it exactly. A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell are the only two Floyd Albums I never listen to just because Waters was not with them. Roger Waters was such a creative genius that once he left, the Floyd sound transformed; you would never think it was Pink Floyd. |

This is a great, song, one of the best on "In Utero" The lyrics are brilliant, the sound is great. Kurt is definitley comparing himself to Frances Farmer in this song. The song expresses that Kurt dosen't like the media at all. 'I miss the comfort in being sad" he says he misses his normal life before Nirvana was really famous. He also misses him being sad and no one giving a shit. |
