Fugazi – Waiting Room Lyrics 9 years ago
@[jamison106:4026] responding to a post I made 10 years ago?! NICE!

Thanks for clarifying they both had Ian Mackaye in the band though. Heck while we're at it, let's not forget Embrace, Egg Hunt, Pailhead, and The Evens.

Also, learn to write complete sentences. Also pick up Red Medicine if you haven't already.

Andrew W.K. – Ready to Die Lyrics 15 years ago
haha. if any of you perhaps get a chance to see a andrew wk interview, you'll see he is very, very, very far from a "party-till-I-puke" macho dude. before taking on his "andrew wk party sound" he did a ton of noise experiments and un-commerical material. Heck, a couple of years back he even played drums withe the BOREDOMS on their 77 drummer gig. its just really funny in my viewpoint seeing a noise musician becoming quite popular and seeing him on par with a bunch of other mainstream garbage. food for thought baby!

Sonic Youth – I Love You Mary Jane (with Cypress Hill) Lyrics 16 years ago
although Sonic Youth weren't a drug-free band, this song is quite mocking the addiction and ignorance of a cliche-party-causal-pot-user in modern society. the second verse just furthers the blow showing user's denial how many use it to find escapism from their problems. Its written from the perspective of a indulgent idiot in a way to mock them from SY, funny enough I think the people they target in this song don't realize this song is actually making fun of them.

Sonic Youth – In The Kingdom #19 Lyrics 16 years ago
mike watt plays bass on this song.
one ironic thing about this is that he recorded this with them not long after his bandmate d boon's death, which was in a car crash.

also, the last lines of the song are mr. watt speaking, and he wrote those out of experience being a meter man. It's really funny you have this poetic deep piece of avant garde, and the song ends with a simple pun. haha.

Butthole Surfers – Cowboy Bob Lyrics 17 years ago
this song is about a roadie (i think, if i remember right) from another ealy 80's indie band that was killed by a axe murderer. It's the BHS's way of a tribute to him.

Butthole Surfers – Dracula From Houston Lyrics 17 years ago
mr. haynes has made it pretty clear in "Our Band Could Be Your Life" that he dosent really give a shit about the whole "selling out" and signing to a major label shit. I mean, I doubt i'd enjoy spending years riding around on a cramped bus with no money.

I overall think this is a great song. I mean I can hear stuff from their early days in this song, sure its more poppy, but there's nothing wrong with a pop song. I can hear tape loops and vocal trackings all threw this song.

New Order – Dreams Never End Lyrics 17 years ago
Uh, I'd have to say this about Ian Curtis(The Him in this song I imagine). Almost sounds like Curtis is haunting over this song while pete hook sings. The 1st track on their debut album.

XTC – Dear God Lyrics 17 years ago
Blah Blah Blah....

This is a wonderful song, but it gets so goddamn boring when any time this song is mentioned, you people have to run the whole "there is no god" line. Give it a rest already. Everyones got their own opinions and everyone already knows organized religion is fucked up.

submissions
Public Image Ltd – The Flowers of Romance Lyrics 17 years ago
Flowers of Romance was the name of a early punk band that Keith Levene as well as Sid Vicious and some of the Slits were all involved with. Theres also a early Sex Pistols song with the same name as well.

Ministry – Revenge Lyrics 17 years ago
Ministry probably at their best In my opinion. Some Ministry fans ive noticed are too proud to notice or accept they started a electronic/synth band.

submissions
The Damned – Life Goes On Lyrics 17 years ago
haha this almost resembles Nirvana's "Come as You Are"

I think this was almost a pick-me-up song to the reaction of Ian Curtis/Malcolm Owen Deaths in the music world in 80/81. As far as I know the Damned had good relations with both of the singer's bands. Then again Im just guessing here, Im not sure when this song was written.

The Smiths – Pretty Girls Make Graves Lyrics 17 years ago
being shy, unable to express, not getting what you want in a relationship, regretting the way you are, then the anger and depression of seeing her with someone else... Pretty Girls only lead to heartbreak and a rather dim veiw on life. thus, pretty girls make graves...

Sex Pistols – (I'm Not Your) Stepping Stone Lyrics 17 years ago
No... Neil Diamond did not write this. Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart did.

I heard something great on a garage rock radio the other day. The Sex Pistols Covering the Monkees... Both bands were made to sell records, the Monkees were the only ones to admit they were. The Sex Pistols were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Monkees have still not. Huh.....

The Stooges – Loose Lyrics 17 years ago
Nick Cave at the Peak of His Herion addiction use to cover this song with his noise rock band The Birthday Party, I gotta say, He out-screams iggy on their version. Its crazy...

Ramones – Do You Wanna Dance? Lyrics 17 years ago
this was orginally done by Bobby Fuller in 1959, a handful of artists have covered this song. I couldnt name them all.

New Order – Procession Lyrics 17 years ago
Most of New Order's first album "Movement" was centered around Ian. Most Critics say they were in a shell-shock period, not knowing where to really go. This songs easily about Ian as well.

The Replacements – Bastards Of Young Lyrics 17 years ago
Great song, then some boring documentry involving boring bands had to go and use this song as it's title. Ho-Hum.

This song's rift is nearly identical to T. Rex's "Metal Guru", still a good song however.

The Tom Robinson Band – 2-4-6-8 Motorway Lyrics 18 years ago
Lots of people in the punk community hated poor Tom because He was for gay rights, with songs like "Glad To Be Gay". I think Stiff Records even called his work "fag music". Either way, this is a insanely catchy song.

submissions

thumping good bass line.

However the Captain made it rather obvious they were miming it when they played it on Top of The Pops

The Damned – Grimly Fiendish Lyrics 18 years ago
try cheesy pop with a hint of goth

Theres a version of this called "Bad Trip Mix"
Its actually pretty weird once your use to the basic version, lots of voice overdubs and noises. almost scary

The Velvet Underground – The Gift Lyrics 18 years ago
I belive this song was orginally a long jam called "Booker T", but changed with Cale reading the story over it. But god, poor Waldo. Its so brillant.

listen to the Cure's version of this off their first album.

If you a die-hard Hendrix fan you will hate it.
But anyone else will find it amusing.

its about parents who are too busy wasting their lives away at bars and neglect their kids, and not watch over them, its more of a statement then a shock song.

Orange Juice – Rip It Up Lyrics 18 years ago
its even got "Boredom"'s simple little solo on it. You can hear them playing it in the background after he says "And my favourite song's entitled 'boredom'".

a very nice book named after this song about Post-Punk was released, its a really good book.

submissions
Joy Division – Digital Lyrics 18 years ago
It was one of their last punkier songs before getting the sound they are known for. The reason for the title of the song is because Martin Hannett produced it using digital delay. It was the first song they recorded with him and the last song they preformed live, like said earlier

Fall Out Boy – Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division cover) Lyrics 18 years ago
"but the fact that the guy who sings it sounds like hes on dying"

Possibly the only reason this song was ever a hit for Joy Division is because their lead singer, Ian Curtis killed himself shortly before their first american tour.

FOB manadged to take a song sang in utter depression by a band that never was big in their time and turn it into another fucking way of making themselves look like they are "emotional" . This hardly a tribute to Joy Division, as its coming from a "punk" band who cites Guns and Roses as their influence. This is just as bad as Hilary Duff's "My Generation" and Limp Bizkit's "Behind Blue Eyes" covers. You people are idiots for even liking this. then again, i dont think Ian Curtis was "hawtt" enough for any of you to even listen to Joy Division. Hell, I'd think Pete Hook would be pissed for ruining his stunning bass line.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – The Singer Lyrics 18 years ago
This is a cover of a Johnny Cash Song, which is possibly about Cash's veiw upon the music industry and his career in the late seventies and eighties. He was basically forgotten by everyone about and his label dropped him, i dont blame him for feeling so betrayed.

Nick gives a nice apmosphere to this song, its really good.

Alkaline Trio – Blackout Lyrics 18 years ago
The Real Title to this is "Wait For The Blackout", one of the prime songs on the Damned's "The Black Album". The songs merely about darkness, However Alkaline Trio's cover can harldy compare to the original version of the Damned's. This version hardly is as atmospheric as The Damned's.

Alkaline Trio – Wash Away Lyrics 18 years ago
Bleh, This is one of the many god-awful covers of classic punk songs on the new tony hawk game.

this was originally by TSOL, on the album "Beneath The Shadows". But I doubt most people who hear this song dont know its a cover let along who TSOL is.

The Damned – Plan 9 Channel 7 Lyrics 18 years ago
well, this song is based on Vampira, a 50s horror actor and the supposed lover of james dean. Dave Vanian was obsessed with her, and made this song.

You can find the music videEtiqutteo for it on the 25th Anniversey addition of Machine Gun Etiquette, It features the band playing on the Smash it Up video set, Vanian sitting on a chair watching vampira and walking with her, and the whole band and their equipment playing in a feild behind piles of burning leaves and sticks. very unqiue.

theres another version of the song, shortened with edited lyrics for radio airplay, because of "devil worshipping"

MGE is a classic must have punk album as well.

submissions
Public Image Ltd – Religion Lyrics 18 years ago
well, it was actually 2 years before bad religions first album. "PUBLIC IMAGE" came out in 78.

However my main point is anti-religion songs are cliche and just get old. its not much of a topic to sing about, even in 78.

sweet intro.

Written by the Captain, He wrote this song from the exact words in a comic he read often.

Fugazi – Waiting Room Lyrics 18 years ago
heh, Ian Mackaye was the lead singer of MINOR THREAT.
they are the farthest thing from emo there.

and Fugazi did not invent emo. Rites of Spring, a band that two members of fugazi came from, could be considered emo, but like tsuol said, they are rock. this song is a perfect example.

submissions
Waylon Jennings – Dukes of Hazzrd Theme Lyrics 18 years ago
its a shame not only is this not the proper title to the song, but also this is the only song under Waylon's name. He did alot for not only being Buddy Holly's bassist but also being a artist who changed the music industry completely in Nashville, starting the "Outlaw" movement which was fueled by a piss off attitude. sound fimilar to another musical movement?

submissions
Rage Against the Machine – Kick Out the Jams (MC5 cover) Lyrics 18 years ago
Uh, MC5 where far from "Psychedelic". The Motor City Five could of been one of loudest and raw Rock n Roll bands of the 60s.

This Song was known for MC5's Lead singer yelling "Kick Out thhe Jams Muthafuker!" before this song started, which was a no-no in music standards in the 60s.

The Offspring – Beheaded Lyrics 18 years ago
This sounded almost like the dark sense of Humor The Damned used, The Guitars sound simalar to those of the Damned as well in their MGE era. Not to Mention The Offspring also covered "Smash It Up"
