Finch – Insomniatic Meat Lyrics 18 years ago
From listening to it countless times, this song seems to be a link between What it is to Burn and Say Hello to Sunshine, both in terms of themes and how Nate feels about the albums.

WiitB (the album) seemed to be a more innocent and younger perception of reality (with evil things still happening, like in Three Simple Words and What it is to Burn's Letter-From-Hell theme), while Insomniatic Meat symbolises that loss of innocence, and as Krwlng_n_mie_skn said it sets the scene for the rest of the album. In terms of themes, this is a person who has finally comprehended the evils he's done (possibly related to WiitB), to the point where he constantly feels guilt.

But I also think this is Nate saying his feelings about peoples reactions to WiitB.

"Oh my God I think I'm blind, I've found one colour won't suffice"
He's saying that he must have been blind to create an album like WiitB, which has put him in a stereotype (colour) that isn't good enough for the public or the media.

"It's painless, to float above the Earth like this"
I always thought this was a relation to being in heaven, or as a ghost, but also shows how simple it would have been for Finch to cash-in on another album like WiitB, as he's reached celebrity status (in pop-punk/emo-punk) and therefore above the Earth.

"Now that I'm awake, it's hard for me to make believe"
This shows that therfe has been a loss of innocence, both in the protagonist but also in Nate's feelings towards the public and the media.

It's only my two cents, but I think it'd definately make sense that the first song on SHtS would also hide Finch's feelings on how they feel about the public as a whole!

Green Day – Too Much Too Soon Lyrics 19 years ago
In my opinion, if this were left on the album it would come before letterbomb... they probably had to edit it out though for financial reasons.

"He's talking shit about how it's better way back when/He lives every waking moment as means to an end..."
"...So god bless your fucking past and to hell with your glory."

This is related to extraordinary girl; Whatsername has gotten "so sick of crying", and that last line is her voice as if talking to St Jimmy.

"Too much just ain't enough to keep her satisfied/Her plastic card is filled with nothing comes to mind"

This seems to mean that Jimmy is trying to keep her by giving her loads of money, but she isn't satisfied anymore.

Green Day – American Idiot Lyrics 19 years ago
Although my comment will probably be ignored with the amount already here... here's my opinion.

The ideas in the song are basically the ones that run throughout the album, and as a whole is trying to tell us that there is no escape from becoming an American Idiot (though I live in England :P); This is proved by the fact that the main character (Jesus of Suburbia aka St Jimmy) won't ever seem to end up content with his life; he'll either be a nice guy who no one ever talks to (JoS), or an evil guy that everyone hates (St. Jim).

And the reason American Idiot (the song) is so important is because it is giving a backdrop to how the government, greedy commercial/media companies and society as a whole affects a single person.

Well thats my 2 cents... I think everything else about this song has been said :P
