Green Day – American Idiot Lyrics 19 years ago
horribly overrated song. People don't like this song for the music, they like it for the message.

Bush league..

cheap hollywood grammy..

Damien Rice – Delicate Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't know why it cuts off the rest of my message when I use lesser than/greater than signs to refer to a previous psot, but that last post was supposed to be a response to bob.. it wasn't my writing.

Anyways.. the rest of my post --

I know bob's just trying to be a cynical ass, but actually.. no.. Damien Rice didn't try to rhyme hallelujah with yah.

He rhymed - looya
with - tooya

That is a notable exception to the rule that you can't rhyme two identical sounding words. you rhyme the 2nd to last AND last word. Dumbass..

and no, it is so far from the "worst lyric" ever that I can't even properly emphasize. It's actually on a much higher level of lyricism if he's actually speaking to an actual person who has actually done this. That is personal, and in rhyme form, and thus actually quite good.

Furthermore, as all have said, the emotion and music of the song more than carry it. So sod off.

Damien Rice – Delicate Lyrics 19 years ago
I think it doesn't matter what the song is about, it contains the lyric:

And why do you sing Hallelujah
If it means nothing to yah

That is possibly the worst lyric in the history of the world, whoever put in this entry covered its blushes by putting you instead of yah, but the fact remains, Damien Rice tried to rhyme hallelujah with yah. bad idea

The Smashing Pumpkins – This Time Lyrics 19 years ago
How could you mangle the most beautiful part of the song.. Good lord.. The poetry of "we'll drink up every line, and shoot up every word.."

Jeff Buckley – Satisfied Mind Lyrics 19 years ago
Porter Wagoner wrote the song, it's been covered by everyone from The Byrds to Ben Harper.. You can hear the original on that Dale Earnhardt ESPN movie when they're doing a flashback scene with Dale as a kid.

I have to believe Jeff Buckley's mind was extremely satisfied. You always want more, but he must have been satisfied, he sure lived like it.

The Who – Behind Blue Eyes Lyrics 19 years ago
Amazing how the early commenter equated "Blue Eyes" to "Hitler" and the "Aryan race"

Wow.. Holy ignorance.

Neil Young – Ohio Lyrics 19 years ago
"They" as a whole.. the whole group of protestors.. I'm sure there were individuals that were not attacking these guards, and didn't deserve anything close to injury or death.. So let me clarify that.

What I really mean to say is that we can't pigheadedly blame one side.. and give a free pass to the other. It's not the evil Nixon administration that killed these people.. Nixon didn;t orer the guard to shoot innocent hippies, so why would Neil Young include him in the song?

it's all hate mongering in a different sense.. The very thing people like Young were supposed to stand against.

Neil Young – Ohio Lyrics 19 years ago
It's also ridiculously stupid and needless to attack men with guns and expect them not to do anything. It churns my stomach when I hear people give the victims a free pass on the situation when they brought it upon themselves. They certainly didn't deserve death, but the bottom line and UNDENIABLE fact is they did bring it upon themselves.

Bob Dylan – Blowin' in the Wind Lyrics 19 years ago
War isn't the problem, conflict is the problem. As long as the world is worth fighting over, people are going to fight. It's never going to be as simple as "love thy neighbor." So I think this song deserves to take a backseat to beautiful songs like "If you see her, say hello."

Ani DiFranco – Swan Dive Lyrics 19 years ago
I think the song is about fitting as many beautiful and ugly metaphors as you can, into one song. This song should be one of many templates for aspiring songwriters.

Led Zeppelin – In the Light Lyrics 19 years ago
No the lyrics don't say it all.. At least not these ones printed here.

What the hell is Plant singing at 7:07 after the chorus.. It sounds like "Shi mop a doo" or check out that dude.. or maybe he hates some chick's hair and is saying "Sure hate that doo"

Failure – The Nurse Who Loved Me Lyrics 19 years ago
And as for the song's meaning?

Appears to be about a mental patient who is deluded into thinking that the Nurse loves him.. "She acts just like a nurse, with all the other guys." Probably why he's in the place.

"Why do I fall in love with every woman I see that shows me the least bit of attention?" - Jim Carrey, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Failure – The Nurse Who Loved Me Lyrics 19 years ago
A Perfect Circle covered this song in their album "Thirteenth Step" which some believe believe is a concept album about getting over an addiction.. (The 13th step being the first after the 12 step program.)

This song is in there, and it almost seems like it fits perfectly, despite being written by Failure. I'm starting to wonder if APC didn't write their entire album around the concept of this song.

A Perfect Circle – The Nurse Who Loved Me (Failure cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm surprised too that most people dislike this song.. I think it was probably the best, along with The Noose.

Maybe having known the Failure version, and not immediately recognizing this more beautiful version impacted me positively. I think the sonic landscapes of this song fit perfectly with 13th Step's concept. I'm more than a little surprised that a lot of people are trashing it.

A Perfect Circle – The Noose Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't really have any basis for this evaluation, but it always struck me as a song to his recently (at the time) deceased mother Judith, who was a christian and held her strong beliefs.

It isn't a perfect fit, but it was my first impression. Great song.

Pearl Jam – Falling Down Lyrics 19 years ago
I'd make a few changes to the lyrics, btw, most noticeably, instead of "oh no, the cry of a newborn child" I think "or know" fits better.

Pearl Jam – Falling Down Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm a little sad that this is the first comment on this poignant song. I think it could have been the best Pearl Jam song of all. It was only played once, live at Red Rocks 6-20-95 if I'm not mistaken. The song isn't lacking in lyrical quality, or musical quality, so one is left the impression that it was not added to an album or played again because of the extreme personal content.

This song is also known as Fallen Down, and isn't the best sound quality on the majority of the bootlegs you'd find it. I haven't seen anything in print on this song's meaning, but my understanding over the time is it about the death of Eddie Vedder's child.

I don't know if it was his wife Beth, but it's been hinted in the past that he wrote this song for the child he never knew due to an abortion. Although they ended the child's conception on their own accord, it does of course inevitably hit you hard. This perhaps was the emotional outpouring some odd years later.

Read the lyrics, and draw the parallels.

Tool – H. Lyrics 19 years ago
People who take a shortcut to thinking, usually assume H. is about drugs.. It just makes instant sense. Upon viewing the lyrics, I think you can quite clearly draw a parallel between Maynard, his son, Devo H., and possibly even the mother of his child.

My blood before me begs me, open up my heart again, what's holded up is a mirror, considerately killing me.. All clear references to his struggling emotions with loving this child.

Clearly he does love his child. I think that makes the most sense.

Pearl Jam – Believe You Me Lyrics 19 years ago
People waiting on a second coming, believe you me, I do believe.

That is making reference to the Christian belief that Christ will one day return and claim his followers in what is known as "The Rapture." Whether or not that's what the subject is believing in isn't exactly clear. The song has religious overtones, but of course Vedder is not a religious man, and to our knowledge, never has been.
