I'm not sure, but I think it's part songwriting and part my own memories tied to this song that makes this song so amazing to me. I haven't heard this song in over a year, but right when it came on I was singing along, teary eyed. His voice is simple and so are his words, and yet I think that's what makes this song so great. |

FirstKissLoser - I have to disagree. the line "It felt just like falling in love again" is about suicide.. to quote ben gibbard, "the (suicide-related) lyric was meant to express that everything is new, that you're beginning a new chapter and ending a chapter that's just too painful to move though. love can be like that when you have it and lose it and you that nothing will ever be right again..."
when he sings "...and walked into the angry sea..." hes describing the very last scene in the movie Interiors, when the mother commits suicide by drowning herself. |

as far as The Graduate having any influence on this song - im not sure. the last couple scenes of the movie *might*, but overall, lyrically it just doesnt fit. im not sure though. |
