OK, first of all if it was made to reverse like that Queen didn't do it. Why you ask? THEY DIDN"T WRITE THE SONG! John Deacon did, so you are all just completely fucking retarted. I said it.

Queen – Seven Seas Of Rhye Lyrics 19 years ago
It seems like it's about Freddy taking over the world... he always said he wanted to be a legend, maybe its about him obtaining that status. But chances are I'm looking into it too deep and he was just high when he wrote it. Has anyone seen this in We Will Rock You at Vegas? I haven't but this is supposed to be the highlight of the show. This and BoRhap of course.

No, this one's not about masturbating. That's Pictures of Lilly. And by the way, good music should only be used for good cars. Hummers are the worst fucking car ever to come off an assembly line. I'm a fan of "Rock and Roll" in the Cadillac ads.

Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody Lyrics 19 years ago
i agree with roger daltrey, the microphone swinging is brilliant, but come on, plant? I have the led zep dvd and frankly he didnt offer that much as a front man. The show was all in Jimmy, not him. He just kinda stood there. Not to see his singing isnt great, but as far as a showman he didnt have that much to offer. And if you read over your comment it definatly sounds rather rednecky. "thank you"

Here's the thing, you guys who are all like "you take this site too serioiusly, we all know what it means so why do we have to tell each other, bla bla bla," dont get the point of this website. It has nothing to do with actually wanting to know (at least to me) its more about giving yourself something to do on a boring monday night. The point is this: were not the ones taking it seriously, you are for being so pissed off for absolutly no reason and youre just wasting your own time.

The Mooney Suzuki – School Of Rock (Draft) Lyrics 19 years ago
No one's talked about this song though, just Mooney Suzuki. I give this movie, and song, all the credit for reviving interest in classic rock, the only true music. Sales of Led Zeppelin cds, AC/DC cds, and Queen cds have skyrocketed thanks to this beast of a movie. Although I would give more credit to the Darkness, a new classic rock band (yes you heard me, new classic rock) for sales of Queen cds since they are a direct homage, this movie has still done wonders for the market. Rock on, Jack Black!

The Darkness – I Believe In A Thing Called Love Lyrics 19 years ago
Oh thank God for the Darkness. They and Jet are finally bringing real rock back to the mainstream, hell classic rock hasn't even been in any stream since the 80s. I can only pray that these guys get REALLY popular, they are true musics last hope. Also, as for them ripping off Queen, I love Queen, they are one of my 5 favorites (in no order Queen, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Rolling Stones, and Eric Clapton) and I love them. There are obviously some great similarities in these guys and Queen, namely their frontmen (although no one can even compare to Freddy Mercury, no one at all) but I don't think they are ripping off Queen. I think of it more as an homage to them. It's not even directly a Queen homage either, theres also a lot of AC/DC in them (especially Black Shuck).

Finally, the second coming of classic rock has come!

The Darkness – Givin' Up Lyrics 19 years ago
About heroin. Here's the thing though, the name is givin up, which implies its about him giving up the drugs, but if you pay attention to the lyrics its about how much he loves them. The title is completley irrelevant to the song in every way. Anyway, great tune. About time there was a good modern band. I can only pray these guys get popular, real rock needs to make a come back. LONG LIVE LED ZEPPELIN!

Guns N' Roses – Paradise City Lyrics 19 years ago
This song rocks, Slash rocks, Axl should burn in hell. Not only did he break up the band and all, but he is the most over rated songwriter/singer that ever lived. I'm not kidding, have you heard Sympathy for the Devil? He completly butchered Mick Jagger's masterpiece with his complete inability to sing anything but drunken bullshit.

I fucking hate G n R for doing this song. This a true rock classic and they fucking ruin it in every way. And everyone who has posted here are idiots. Go to the Rolling Stones version of it to see some intelligible response. I guess Rolling Stones fans (like myself) are just smarter.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Purple Haze Lyrics 19 years ago
It's a type of weed, yeah, but the song is most definately about a really bad acid trip. I have no clue what that one guy is talking about with Jesus, Hendrix was a fuckin druggy all the way. What else would motivate a man to play the guitar with his teeth? Quality tune all the way, though by no means is it his best like most people say. That award goes to Voodoo Child.

AC/DC – For Those About to Rock (We Salute You) Lyrics 19 years ago

Long live the gods of rock! I see this as one last attempt to keep rock where it is. I actually get sad when I hear this song, they are defending the music they love so much and now it doesn't even exist anymore. Now the closest thing we have is Jet and the Darkness. So sad...

Great song, great riff. To me, this is AC/DC's best, it just imbodies the feeling of the group. This, of course, is that we had to work damn hard to get where we're at and if you don't like what we do then fuck you.

Wow, this is one of the greatest guitar solos of all time. Whoever from Guitar World Magazine decided that Stairway to Heaven has the best is a complete idiot, not that it's not a good song. Cream – White Room Lyrics 19 years ago
See, I've always had a mental picture of WW2. The station would be the deportation stations that all the people had to go to during the Holocaust before being shipped off. I guess the waiting room was white. It makes sense though, since most of the song is basically describing how depressing the room is. The only part that doesn't fit is the part about the party... Oh well.

Eagles – Hotel California Lyrics 19 years ago
Wow, some of you are overanalyzing this song A LOT. I mean, to me this song isn't on the symbolic par as Stairway or Boh Rap (see my reviews of those for true overanalysis.) It's pretty straight forward, just about the Underworld of LA. If you get the 2 disc Eagles: Best of set it actually says exactly how the song came about. I'll paraphrase it: basically it said they got the basic thoughts for the song, a twilight zone-like hotel in LA, watched a lot of Twilight Zone shows to get ideas, did a lot of research on hotels, and then threw in as much weird shit as they could to get a very odd feel to it. It's nothing more than that. So not to say your ideas aren't good, but in my opinion the song is just about some crazy shit going down at a hotel.

OK, I know I'm annoying the shit out of you guys but I have one more thing. In the Led Zeppelin DVD, has anyone else noticed that in the beginning of Stairway Robert Plant seems insanely drunk? I think that performance just didn't do the live version of the song justice. I much prefer the version on How The West Was Won. Now I'm really done, I swear.

Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics 19 years ago
For a more detailed view of what my happier view of the song is, scroll up FahQ Nigel's entry about 1/6 of the way up. It's pretty damn good. And a side note on the darker version: Jimmy Page was NOT a devil worshipper or a follower of Crowley, he said this in a press release I found doing more research. He is just very interested in different religions, especially dark ones (such as the occult.) So somehow the dark version isn't very likely. It is, however, undeniably creepy and fits eerily well. Well then, I'm finally done and am moving on to my expert review of Bohemian Rhapsody.

Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics 19 years ago
OK, like I said I really don't like this version. It's rather scary and I much prefer mine. However, it really does fit the song well. Here we go:

First off, theres some background stuff you should know. Jimmy Page was a follower of Alastair Crowley, a British occultist who wrote many books on following Satan. Page had the second largest collection of these in the world. Second, PIPER is another name for the devil. It comes from the greek demigod Pan, who looked like what the modern picture of the devil is (cloven hooves for feet, horns) and was Hades' right hand man (so if hades is the devil, pan would be the antichrist, the devil's son.) He always carried around his pipes with him and would use the music to get people to follow him. He would lose them in the FOREST, and they would get lost in there and eventually die. Pan lived there, so the forest was a kind of metaphor for Hell. Finally, the devil was said to have an agent in heaven, a LADY. Knowing all this, we move into the song.

The lady, Satan's agent, is buying the stairway to heaven. This means she is keeping people from getting in, she is blocking the path. Saying the stores are all closed is saying heaven isn't all it's cracked up to be. Next it spends a great deal of time describing the forest (hell) as a great place, describing the birds, the trees, and the brook beautifully. The bird (in hell remember) is saying all of our thought are misgiven, i.e. our conceptions of good and bad are wrong. It then describes the forest burning, carrying home the point that it is hell. Here comes the piper, the devil, who is going to "lead us to reason," or lead us to what they think is the right path: hell. Bear in mind that in Crowley's teachings hell was the real heaven, just like the devil was the real god, so hell is the place we really want to end up. "A new day will dawn for those who stand long and the forest will echo with laughter." That's saying if you stay the course that the piper has set for you, i.e. to hell, the forest, again hell, will be rather happy about it. In comes the intense part, and the lady re enters. She is telling us to listen very hard (to this song) and the truth will come to us at last (what I have just said.) I know it's scary and not very believable, but look at the entire song closley. it fits, and then some. It fits in places I didn't even say because this post is long enough already. Scary, I know.

One more thing to clarify: these are not my beliefs and I did not make this up off the top of my head. I did research w/ dogpile (such as enter "Piper" and see what comes up, do it yourself if you don't believe me) I personally still like my interpretation of the song, but the Crowley version is too uncanny to ignore. I hope no one here thinks I'm some evangelic Catholic nutjob, cuz I'm most definatley
not. I'm not denouncing Led Zeppelin, despite this they are still one of my favorite bands. I'm also not a goth myself, I learned all this through research, not my own knowledge. I just thought it was interesting. I know I'll never look at this song the same way again.

Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics 19 years ago
I have 2 meanings for this one, one that I have always thought and one that I have stumbled upon in doing research about it. The first, mine, I prefer since it isn't nearly as disturbing. However, the truth is that Page was really into Crowley, owning the second largest collection of his books in the world. Anyway, heres mine:

It's a statement basically saying to enjoy what you can in life, related through the story of the lady who is a big materialist, who only cares about her possesions. She thinks she can even buy heaven. Belteshazaar's little thing about Belshazaar and Daniel supports this. When it talks about the forest and stuff, it means appreciating nature and when it talks about the people watching it burn it is saying how no one cares that nature is being destroyed. The piper refers to the pied piper taking people away from the right course in life, like he took away the children of the twon. Finally, that last intense part is all about how the lady somehow learned her lesson (maybe she died: shines white light = angel) and is trying to get people back on the right track of life through her example. That's the way I personally interprate the song. I'll post the more sinister way in a different post.

Has anyone heard this live? The version at Knebworth on the DVD is just amazing, Jimmy Page replaces the trippy middle part with one HUGE improvised guitar solo. It's truly amazing to see, Page is a living god. I just wish he wasn't so psychotic, what with the house at Loch Ness and all. Does anyone know if he's gotten over that nast little phase yet?

Really simple, a man trying to pray for forgiveness for the sins he has commited. Although this does seem a little out of characer for Led Zeppelin...
I wonder which one of them decided to cover this? My guess is Jones, he's the most sober of the lot.

OK, heres the thing. WHY IN GOD'S NAME DID THEY HAVE TO "EXPERIMENT" WITH SYNTHESIZERS? I'm all for the kind of experimentation they did in Dazed in Confused, that was brilliant. But this? No. Aside from that, its a great blues rocker (the lyrics are anyway) warning you not to get too dependent on your girl, he almost seems angry about it, but then the chorus comes and he says you still need love.

Led Zeppelin – Heartbreaker Lyrics 19 years ago
First of all, what is up with people on this site spelling his name Paige? It's Page, you sad sad people. I thought you said you were a guitar player Muzzy?

Now to the song. This is THE definitive blues rock song. I mean, what in this world is better? Not many people have commented here mainly because theres not much in the lyrics to be interpreted, its pretty straight forward. Just a girl who makes guys fall in love with her and then dumps them. Anyway, top notch. To me, this is true Zeppelin, not the techno stuff they get into later in their career. They should have just kept it to blues rock and their odd style of folk rock. That's true Zep. Songs like In the Evening are good for what they are, just not up the Led Zeppelin par (although the live version on their DVD is a vast improvement, Page's whammy bar work is truly something to see.)

Led Zeppelin – Black Dog Lyrics 19 years ago
Simple story about a girl, like a lot of their songs. This one he was really attracted to, then she shut him down. Where he says "down and out" is where he gets rejected. And yes, the name has nothing at all to do with the the song, just like a good half of their songs. Moby Dick anyone?

submissions
Led Zeppelin – Moby Dick Lyrics 19 years ago
A lot of their titles are inside jokes. They would write a song which they couldn't think of a name for, so they would just name it something funny to them. The best example of this is Achilles Last Stand. Robert Plant had broken his heel in a car accident around the time it was written. Page called him up to hear his final produced version of it (remember it was still untitled) and when Plant heard it he was so impressed by it that he stood up in shock, forgetting about his bad heel. He immediatly fell over. Achilles Last Stand.
Anyway, I don't really know what the joke is that goes with this song but I'm guessing it was named with a similar method since the name has nothing to do with the song. Great song by the way.

Led Zeppelin – Ramble On Lyrics 19 years ago
My opinion on this is very similar to The Battle of Evermore. I think it is a story that he thought of in reading LOTR but not directly about LOTR. He certainly used very strong allusions to it, and the plot does resemble the Aragorn/Arwen sideplot like Chris said, but I refuse to believe it is directly about LOTR. I think it's just a story about a traveller who has been living in one place for a while, but the time has come for him to leave. Pretty simple really.

Led Zeppelin – What Is and What Should Never Be Lyrics 19 years ago
I think it's just about a perfect place that exists in all of us (what is) but we shouldn't ever be allowed to get there since it would make everything else seem mundane compared to it. Don't ask me where I got that but hey, it works.

Led Zeppelin – The Battle of Evermore Lyrics 19 years ago
It's about a big battle at the end of times, which is found in almost every culture. Although the Minas Tirith battle fits into the mold and Ringwraiths are mentioned, it could be about any battle. They were really into Norse mythology (Immigrant Song) so it could easily be about the Norse Ragnorak. Any way you want to apply it, it's about the final battle. However, Led Zep obviously loved Tolkien and if there is any one song that is wholly about LOTR it is this one.

Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody Lyrics 19 years ago
Here's my whole run through.

Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide,
No escape from reality
Open your eyes,
Look up to the skies
and see,
I'm just a poor boy
I need no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go
Little high, little low
Any way the wind blows doesn't really matter to me
to me

Personally, I think the song starts at the end, he is in jail telling his story. The mood of this part just doesn't fit any other way. That's how i picture it anyway. So whatever happened to him, he doesn't care anymore and has given up.

Mama just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Pulled my trigger now he's dead
Mama, life had just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away
Mama
Didn't mean to make you cry.
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on
As if nothing really matters.

He killed someone and is feeling extreme guilt about it. He realized that he just basically ended his own life as well (... and now I've gone and thrown it all away) and thinks he will be caught very shortly (if I'm not back again this time tomorrow) and is telling his mom to go on living.

Too late, my time has come,
Sends shivers down my spine,
body's aching all the time.
Goodbye, ev'rybody
I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama,
I don't wanna die,
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all

He is fearing death, since he knows if he is caught it will come. This part is rather self explanatory (and my favorite part of the song).

OK, let's take this next part line by line since it is the most complicated. He gets caught, and the "opera" section is the trial.

I see a little silhouetto of a man
(The executioner)
Scar-a-mouche, Scar-a-mouche,
Will you do the Fan-dan-go?
(The court is taunting him, calling him a buffoon [scaramouche] and telling him to dance.
Thunderbolt and lightning,
very, very frightening me.
(They are threatening him with the electric chair.)
(Galileo) Galileo
(Galileo) Galileo
Galileo figaro Magnifico
(OK, this part I think was just random filler, maybe mocking the court system, which this whole scene seems to do with it's rediculousness and petty bickering.)
I'm just a poor boy and nobody loves me.
He's just a poor boy from a poor family.
Spare him his life from this monstrosity.
Easy come, easy go, will you let me go,
(He is pleading to the court, even saying easy come easy go in that there are plenty more living people out there. This isn't exactly the best argument, but oh well.)
Bismillah! No we will not let you go
(Let him go!)
Bismillah! We will not let you go
(Let hime go!)
Bismillah! We will not let you go
(Let me go!)
Will not let you go
(Let me go!)
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
Oh mama mia mama mia
Mama mia let me go.
(The big fight, back and forth.)
Bielzebub has a devil put aside for me, For me, For me!
(He is found guilty, he knows when he dies he will go to hell.)

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye.
So you think you can love me and leave me to die.
Oh, baby, Can't do this to me, baby,
Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here.
He just gets insanely pissed off that he is guilty and goes berserk.

Nothing really matters, Anyone can see,
Nothing really matters, Nothing really matters to me.
Anyway the wind blows.
A reprise of the beginning, back to where he started. He just doesn't care even though he knows he is going to be killed.

Sorry for how long winded that sucker was, but thats my interpretation from the beginning and I think it's a damn good one. I know most of it has been posted here before, but what I basically did was put all the best people's together and added a little of my own spin. Anyway, that's my final opinion of the song. Enjoy my brilliance.

Are you all fucking kidding me? The G 'n R version sucks compared to this masterpiece. They completely butcher it in every way, starting in the first few secons. I mean axle doen't even sing it, he drawls like hes drunk. Some people say thats his appeal, I say hes actually trying to sing and just can't do it. You want a real vocalist, look no further than Mick Jagger. The only one better in history, in my opinion anyway, is Freddy Mercury. Now that man has pipes. Anyway, great song. ONE of their best, their whole catalog is great.

It's just about the tour de france and how Freddy loves riding his bike. You guys are obsessed with finding gay connection in every queen song its insane. I mean, there was even a post in We Will Rock You saying it was a gay pride anthem. It wasn't even written by Freddy for god's sake, it was Brain May's song. Just because he was gay doesn't mean every song is about that.

Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody Lyrics 19 years ago
Bear with me here, I've got a pretty good take on it.

It starts like most people have said, with him killing a guy (no reason stated) and getting insanely guilt stricken over it. Very sad stuff. But then there's the scadamoosh. I no one's really had a good take on that. It's a trial, yeah, beyond that I think that it's a parody of the court system. I mean, it's a trial with people telling him to dance the Fan-dan-go. Think the last court room scene in Chicago, just an all out mockery of courts. Then, like everyone says, the verdict is in: guilty. This pisses him off and sends him nuts, i.e. the kick ass guitar solo. Eventually he accepts his fate. Thats my take anyway.
