| Mindless Self Indulgence – Mark David Chapman Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think that the verses are tongue-in-cheek, more or less spoken from the point of view of one of the monotonous bands, and the choruses relate of course to the notion that, like everyone's been saying, someone needs to take out all these montonous uninspired bands | |
| Sage Francis – Xaul Zan's Heart Lyrics | 18 years ago |

| Incubus – Here In My Room Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Maybe the song is about, gasp!, loving sex. There is such a thing, you know. The sex is undeniable, but so are the loving undertones, and believe it or not, sex and love to sometimes go hand in hand. Oh and btw, the beginning of this song is nearly identical to the beginning of the song "Retrovertigo" by Mr. Bungle, but played on a different instrument and slowed down a bit |
|
| Sage Francis – Sea Lion Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| In the live album "Road Tested" he dedicates this song to all the hard-working artists, etc. I think it's just supposed to be sort of an anthem for people working to try to find their niche in this world, who didn't have everything handed to them | |
| Sage Francis – Escape Artist Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Wrong. All wrong: When I first got into magic It was an undrground phenomenon Now everybody's like "Pick a card, any card" If I shot my full load with the first hand I played I'd be a monkey in a box hangin with the David Blaines I'd be swimming with the sharks Smiles full of razorblades But I'm not I got out of that game, escape artist I talk til I'm red in my face with strained polyps I'll rock till I'm out of my range then raise octaves I play through the pain and remain conscious Refraining from commenting on the lame compliments And the petty criticisms from those who ain't accomplished Even one fifth of some of the shit I made progress with I'm leaving nay-sayers stumped like rainforests After years of pulling rabbit ears out my pants pockets I'm not revealing any tricks of the trade It's just there ain't no magic in the breakdown, baby: In an effort to make them all see what I found in my life I decided to give em a look None of them give it a glimpse and I guess that I'm sitting in the middle of an unread book Letters are falling apart but the sentences stand on their own and the wording is permanent Never been missed I've just been misworded and misinterpreted it's Funny how serving the sentence of solitary confinement Results in the death sentences filling my writing assignment I'm just wondering my time went, it pulled a disappearing act And every single assistant I ever had Got sawed in half Cause they never paid attention, but I can't afford to laugh Cause I'm looking for my break and an autograph for my cast But I'm short on staff so all I ask is volunteers in the crowd Show a little bit of audience participation now: When I say "HIP" You, you say "SHUT THE FUCK UP, WE AIN'T SAYING SHIT" And I respect it Check it, in a flare for the dramatic exit A fashionable entrance, late to my own arrangement, oh The self-destructive things that I do for entertainment My folks gave me this art, your broken heart is my pallette While I was out honing my craft You was disowning your talent That's why you still live at home And I bought this house of my parents I'm getting ahead of myself I see the hair on my back I'm on the road reading Kerouac It's poems vs. battle raps I think to myself: "What's worth remembering? Verses defending the size of my manhood or confessional canned goods?" In an effort to make them all see what I found in my life I decided to give em a look None of them give it a glimpse and I guess that I'm sitting in the middle of an unread book Letters are falling apart but the sentences stand on their own and the wording is permanent Never been missed I've just been misworded and misinterpreted it's Funny how serving the sentence of solitary confinement Results in the death sentences filling my writing assignment But none of this is gettin told in confidence I reckon I spin confidential records just to hold the listener's attention I'm a veteran of spatial relationships Clip your wings to fit you in, headshrinking magician Shapeshifting reptillian turned body contortionist Orphanages started offering torches to abortion clinics I lost acquaintances, in a morgue of lady friends I genderbent the heavensent angellic devil boy This god's androgynous I'm looking marvelous But looks can kill And they're unsure about my sexual orientation still They put me in a special kind of case That only breaks if You hit it with a bouquet of flowers and baby breath arrangements The vault is vacant And they're all looking for phone call blame I called my agent The moment that I caught the train I let him know that I'm goin' nowhere He's invited If he leaves tonight then he might just help me find it But this is my burden to bear Not his And I'm a psychic without a sidekick Holding the future hostage A loose cannon standing on the rooftop with A new respect and understanding of bartenders and locksmiths They call me daredevil But I'm not precise enough Unprofessional On an amature level I love my life too much Escape Artist (x4) (Escape, escape) Escape Artist I'm in two places at once Escape Artist But I ain't slept in months Escape Artist Just tryin' to get away But there ain't no magic in the breakdown baby Ain't no magic in the breakdown baby No magic in the break Ain't no magic in the breakdown baby (x3 and continues as Sage speaks) |

| Incubus – A Kiss To Send Us Off Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This reminds me of the time my girlfriend broke up with me, and I felt like asking for just one last kiss, to send us off. I believe that may be what the song is about | |

| Christina Aguilera – Get Mine, Get Yours Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| If a guy wrote this it'd be misogyny | |
| Eyedea & Abilities – Big Shot Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Haha, does anyone notice that he says "Ain't a hoe or a groupie. Jane Doe or a Lucy" I'm not sure if it's intentional, but I take the Lucy as a reference to Atmosphere (another great rap group if you're not familiar) who often use the name Lucy in their lyrics when speaking of a female character (much like a Jane Doe type thing, every antagonistic female is named Lucy). *shrug* Funny |
|
| A Perfect Circle – The Outsider Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| In keeping with the theme of addiction, I believe that this song is more-or-less the perspective of someone who has no idea what type of power an addiction can hold over someone(an outsider if you will) and more less is just saying "Walk it off", and telling them to just quit being pussies and stop! As if it were that ridiculously easy | |
| Christina Aguilera – Dirrty (feat. Redman) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| What's interesting is that if a man were to parade around in a skimpy outfit or even naked in a music video and sing about sex and partying, I doubt many people would really have a big problem with it. When Christina Aguilera does it, everyone bashes her and calls her a slut. She's expressing her sexuality, big fucking deal, I actually rather admire her for having the courage to be as provocative as she pleases in her music and videos reguardless of what people say. Anyways, as for the meaning, it seems to me like it's just a song about letting your hair down and partying, fucking, etc. | |
| Christina Aguilera – Walk Away Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This is quite a lyrical feat, I highly enjoy the metaphor (candy one especially), the meaning I believe is a bit self-explanitory | |
| Christina Aguilera – Welcome Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Absolutely amazing. The intro to it as well | |
| Christina Aguilera – Nasty Naughty Boy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| And this is exactly why I love Christina Aguilera, she's a female popstar not afraid to sing about topics like sex, and she's not ashamed of her sexuality. A true artist. Great song. | |
| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Sir Psycho Sexy Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| It's about Anthony himself, just as Jungle Man is about Flea, and Skinny Sweaty Man about Hillel | |
| My Chemical Romance – Vampires Will Never Hurt You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I've heard that the song is a concept album about a couple in love, but tragically the female of the couple(Helena by name, according to some sites) is killed when the town they live in is overrun with vampires. This song I thnk is about Helena being killed by vampires. In case you're wondering, the rest of the story is that the guy gets so depressed without Helena he kills himself and goes to hell. While in hell he makes a deal with the devil: The Devil must restore his and Helena's souls in exchange for the souls of a bunch of evil men, as for example, a man who kills everyone at a wedding party(To The End), a couple of gay murderous criminals(Do You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison?), and a teenager overridden with angst who goes on a school shooting(I'm Not Okay, I Promise). He soon begins to lose sight of the mission and begins to feel he'll never see Helena again(The Ghost Of You), but eventually they reunite in the end and he tells Helena all about everything(I Never Told you What I Do For A Living). It's hard to tell what's where and when on the album because Gerard spliced all the songs up with his own strife and emotional lyrics, so it's hard to distinguish | |
| Flogging Molly – Whistles The Wind Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| When I saw these guys, Dave King said something along the lines of "This song is to all you beautiful people out there". I dunno if that's relevant but... | |
| Marilyn Manson – Coma White Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
On one level, the most outer shell of emotion basically, this song is about drug addiction. But I believe it runs a bit deeper than that. And btw, I'm not trying to insult people who take the forefrontal meaning, I relate to it highly as a matter of fact. I believe the Coma White is a state of perfection. Something humans constantly try to reach via different things, but it's always elusive, and never attainable. Humans try to reach it through many different things: television, religion, drugs, et cetera. In this song, the Coma White is embodied as a female character, obviously very wanted by the speaker, for he considers her perfect ("You were from a perfect world, a world that threw me away"). I believe also that Holy Wood, Mechanical Animals, and Antichrist Superstar are part of a three-fold story, in which the narrator of this song is the main character. |

| Tool – Jerk-Off Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I know somebody who has a very loose code of morale, they set a standard of morality for themselves but then end up breaking it to look cool, or just merely when they want to have fun. I do my best to stick to my moral code resolutely. Yet I'm always the one getting fucked over in life because of it. I've been told that fate and destiny punish those who are bad, but I'm so fucking tired of waiting, I wish I could just play god and shoot them myself. That's how I apply this to my life. Also, I believe this song questions the nature of morality in general. Like, do people follow their own code of morals because they believe in their hearts that their beliefs are right, or are they just afraid of consequence? |
|
| Tool – Vicarious Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| According to Adam Jones in GuitarWorld, this album is supposed to be a lot more powerful than most of the other works because Maynard's voice isn't mixed right up front on the album, so you can really hear the driving force of the instruments behind him | |
| Mindless Self Indulgence – I'm Your Problem Now Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think this song is a comment on how people tell you that you have to love your parents because without them you wouldn't be alive. Like, no matter how abusive a mother is, the child should still love them because they fucked the shit out of the child's dad | |
| Mindless Self Indulgence – Backmask (With Backwards Text) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The forward message is more dangerous and bad than the backmasked one, kind of a slap in the face, wouldn't you say? | |

| At the Drive-In – One Armed Scissor Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| To me, anyway, it sounds like it's about someone very very detached from the rest of the world committing suicide. They're so detached that they feel like they're in outer space, hence the sci-fi theme to it all. | |

| Run-DMC – It's Tricky Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think this song is about how being stars impact their lives and how everyone either bothers them, gives them crap, thinks what they do is effortless, or think they have loads of unprotected sex and sniff a bunch of coke all day...or all of the above | |
| Tupac Shakur – Keep Ya Head Up Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
fiction_we_live Shut up. Great point. Moronic Execution. Keep your homophobic ass comments to yourself before implying anyone else's stupidity or ignorance like that, I'm gay, and I don't objectify anybody, you dumb prick, so what point are you trying to make there? Anyways, this song is really very good, and I can imagine very inspiring as well. The best thing about 2Pac was that he didn't merely talk about himself, he spoke OUT to the people, gave them a positive message, and something to hold onto. R.I.P, Tupac Shakur |

| Eminem – Criminal Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
You want a criminal? Here's a fucking criminal for YOU! That's what I think was his thought process when writing this song, people take everything he says so seriously, and they make him out to be such a monster, well if they want a monster, a monster they got... |
|
| The Mars Volta – The Bible And The Breathalyzer Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I believe that this is about people who went fanatic about some kind of archaic religion(involving cannibalism and animal sacrifice and mutilation of sorts)then found out it wasn't true and lost all meaning in their lives. | |
| Coheed and Cambria – Once Upon Your Dead Body Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This is pretty much Ten Speed trying to convince The Writer to kill Erica Court, or so The Writer thinks, until at the end of the song, he relaizes Ten Speed is trying to get him to kill Ambellina, because Claudio in the story will eventually fall in love with her, just as The Writer fell in love with Erica in reality. "End the story. The character refuses to believe what he truly is, now MAKE him believe. Kill her, be satisfied" -Ten Speed |
|
| Coheed and Cambria – Apollo I: The Writing Writer Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song is supposed to be a bit of background on the Writing Writer, his motives for writing the story, and what will eventually lead to him killing everyone in the story | |
| OutKast – Roses (feat. Big Boi) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| What they're doing is painting a fictitious portrait of a girl named Caroline, made to represent the type of girl who is a self-absorbed and very down to Mars(as in, totally NOT down to Earth in case no one gets it) type of girl who has a terrible attitude. | |
| Shabutie – Godfather's Lollipop Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Rape | |
| The White Stripes – The Denial Twist Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
To me this song is about....denial "The truth well you know there's no stopping it" "Take a mountain turn it into a mole Just by playing a different role Ya, by playing a different role, oh" To me this song is about someone in denial over their breakup |
|
| Eminem – Guilty Conscience Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| .....the above guy, you're pretty much the reason Eminem has such a horrible reputation | |
| Eminem – My Fault Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song is really interesting, because the whole story's narration turns from classic Slim Shady evil to like an "Oh my god, what the fuck have I just done" feeling that's really powerful | |
| Pearl Jam – Why Go Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| A few years ago my best friend was institutionalized by her mother after and arguement, listening to this song helps me get out my frustrations and NOT kill her mother....and I was truly going to | |
| A Perfect Circle – A Stranger Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I believe that this song is about when you have a loved(or to fit the theme, a loved one addicted to drugs), and they've become a completely different person now...they're like a stranger...they're not the person you befriended...so why can't you stop caring? I can relate to this song immensely |
|
| Nine Inch Nails – Something I Can Never Have Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I relate this song to some kind of self-destructive addiction. i.e. cutting or taking pills or something of the like. It applies to pretty much anything though, therein lies it's brilliance | |
| Pearl Jam – Whipping Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
It's about abortion, but against it in a tongue-in-cheek manner. My interpretation, anyway |
|
| Method Man – Bring The Pain Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| No it wasn't....granted it;s very good, but it's impossible for a cover to be better than it's original. It lacks the originality of the first. Granted you may LIKE it better, I do too, but that doesn't mean it's better. | |
| Mindless Self Indulgence – What Do They Know? Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Thyis makes me think of a kid who's GAY at my school, GAY is what I meant to say. Not hay | |
| Mindless Self Indulgence – What Do They Know? Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This makes me think of a kid who's hay at my school who's always getting beat up and shit People are pricks these days |
|
| Mindless Self Indulgence – Shut Me Up Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think it's about censorship and selling out basically, he's saying he can't wait til producers shut him up and write the words for him so that he can sound cool(sarcastically of course) | |
| The Murderdolls – Die My Bride Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This is the lamest fucking shit I've ever heard...unless there's some kind of tongue-in-cheek message behind it, which I doubt. It seems to me like this is nothing but stupid and mindless shit that Murderdolls vomits out so impressionable morons like you eat it up and feel cool about yourselves. | |
| The Mars Volta – Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I believe that this is an introduction to the main character, Vismund Cygnus. I also believe, since the story is based on a diary, it must all be written from 1st person, so the Mars Volta probably named the writer Vismund Cygnus, due to the whoel Cygnus thing that's been previously discussed. It seems to me that Vismund's birth was the cause of his mother's rape, and he was an unwanted child who was put up for adoption and knows nothing about his family. His entire goal in life is and has been to retrace the steps, match the faces, and find out about his past. |
|
| Marilyn Manson – Rock Is Dead Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I've heard so much surrounding this song but I've boiled it down to a tongue-in-cheek comment on Rock. It's like the look at the irresponsible rockstar, which is exactly what the alter ego Omega was supposed to represent. See, there's this story behind the albums, largely autobiographical, about how this character in Death Valley, where the imperfect thrive, finally gets to where he's always wanted to be(Holy Wood), the land of the perfect people. But when he gets there he realizes that these are the people that treated him like a weed when he was in Death Valley and it makes him angry and he tries to start a revolution. Only the revolution itself becomes a product, this big empty nihilistic piece of crap revolution with no-longer any meaning behind it and THAT'S what Rock Is Dead is about. Omega is the saracastic shallow representation of what people think of Marilyn as. The Mechanical Animals booklet is split in half, the Alpha and the Omega. This is an Omega POV song, as is every song on the Omega side of the booklet. |
|
| Marilyn Manson – In The Shadow Of The Valley Of Death Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Just an interesting side-note: I recall reading a Manson quote that talks about metaphorical places created for the largely autobiographcal concept behind Holy Wood, Mechanical Animals, and Antichrist Superstar. And these places are the Death Valley and Holy Wood. Death Valley is where all the substandard, all the imperfect people are, and Holy Wood is where all the seemingly flawless people are. Just a side-note in case anyone else wondered about these things. It really is an interesting quote, I wish I could remember where I found it... |
|
| Panic! at the Disco – I Write Sins Not Tragedies Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Yes, exactly, adovus. I, too, believe there's more to this song than appears to the naked eye. It's not necessarily about a wedding or whatever, I think it's about finding something bad out about someone you trusted, then wishing it would go away and you'd never heard it | |
