My ex just played me this song last night, and I had to read the lyrics before I really understood what he meant.
I think it's about pain as well as confusion, and not necessarily "wanting her back" but still wanting to protect her, like Drowner said. And maybe she doesn't understand, because even in the song, he says he can't express how he feels. |

This is definitely a beautiful song, but I disagree with the first interpretation of the line, "You don't know the greatness you are". I think that it means that Blue Eyes doesn't see the importance he/she has to this person, or in general, and while the singer is obvously in love with Blue Eyes, the singer is frustrated with this fact that he/she is unaware of his/her significance. |

I wonder if (A) he really thinks this way or (B) if this song is just sarcasm. If (A) is the case, then this song is really corny, but sweet at the same time. If he's being sarcastic by saying that he is picturing this sluttish-looking girl from a peep show as a wholesome, good-hearted female, then I suppose it's kind of funny. I find it hard to believe, though, that a guy can see a peep show and change the images completely in his head rather than just think about sex, so option B makes much more sense. |

Of the entire (terrific) Garden State soundtrack, this song was, ironically, one of my few least favorites. I didn't understand the meaning of the song until I actually read the lyrics out loud to myself and discovered what a truly beautiful song it is. For anyone to whom I have acted as a therapist and happens to be reading this, this song describes exactly what I mean when I say that it's okay to cry and not to keep yourself bottled up. |

The 90's kicked ass, didn't they? Especially the music. Well, it seems to me that this song is more about being forced to overcome his jealousy, rather than being overwhelmed by it. He knoes that he and his significant other couldn't very well be a couple again, but that another form of a relationship could take it's place while he's letting go of what used to be. |

This is such a comforting song, I love it. It's meaning's not easy to read, but I'll give it a try...ahem... I think it's about starting a new change in one's life, and not letting past situations affect future possibilities. So it's not really about the sadness of letting something go, but more like having finished a page in a book and moving on to a new one. I don't know, though it's a hard song to try and analyze when it already makes you feel a certain way regardless of it's true meaning. |

I think that they did an awesome cover, and other than the fact that all of HIM's music seems to consist of depressing love songs, I would never have guessed that they'd choose a Chris Isaak song. This song so accurately describes how I feel sometimes. Not the whole suicide aspect, but just the way I talk to people during my surge of anger. The best line is the very last one, "Do you ever build up all the small things in your head to make one problem that adds up to nothing" that's exactly how my types of problems are, so small that when there are enough to have an affect, they can't be solved. So they're managed by blowing up at people, no pun intended. |

This is an awesome song, and if it weren't for the sound of the instruments (and Billie's voice, obviously), I would never have known it was Green Day, it's so unlike the rest of their stuff. Their lyrics are incredibly intelligent for their genre, and while this is a positive, reassuring song, most others of theirs are generally negative, angry, and these days, political. |

I don't think this song's about heaven or anything religious. Fastball's just turning a story that they heard about a disappearing couple into a great mysterious song. For some reason, when I was younger, I pictured not a couple but a group of young men walking off together on a gold-paved road--that's who I always thought 'they' were. I don't know why the idea of a couple never occured to me. |
