Eels – Novocaine For The Soul Lyrics

I'm with subterraneansummer, I think it's just about how life is painful unless you have something meaningful going on to take your mind off the pain and make it worth something.
TANGENT ALERT: ....which is why emokids are both pathetic AND whiny. |

In response to something someone brought up early on, Cohen is a Zen Buddhist. The religion in this song is all about imagery, the song seems to be about the dynamics of relationships. |

Rainbow – Stargazer Lyrics
|
It's not just that.
The full story: A wizard is trying to reach a "star" -- representing some form of power, divinity, etc, it's vague. So he enslaves these people to build him a tower to reach it. But the people aren't just slaves, look at the words. ("We believed, we believed", etc., it's the overall tone of the speaker) They're the wizard's followers to some extent. They're not just there cos they're forced to be, they really *believe* in his cause, at least a little. And after he fails to reach his "star" (could be cos it's a myth, because he hasn't gone far enough, I dunno) a whole sense of hopelessness takes over the tone of the song. The people have lost their direction, their faith, they don't know what to do or believe... "so where do we go?" -- with their faith shattered, they can't even come to terms with their "freedom". The whole idea is continued in " A light in the Black". These 2 have the best songwriting on the album, some of the best stuff Rainbow's ever done. Full of symbolism. |

"Walt Whitman - poet, wrote "Walden"" -- freehat17
Henry David Thoreau wrote walden, not Walt Whitman.
Whitman's mentioned because a big part of his writing concerned America, democracy, brotherhood, freedom, etc.
HE also wrote lots of stuff about liberty and America's leaders. That "O Captain! My Captain!" poem from Dead Poet's SOciety is one of his most famous works, it's a homage to Lincoln and it's about his assassination.
Just clearing that up. |

At the Drive-In – Chanbara Lyrics

I don't think the 'defacto' here has anything to do with the band, I'm not sure it'd even been formed when yet when this was written.
Quad, listen to avarant. There does seem to be elements of a relationship in the lyrics, but that's almost definitely a metaphor for the political relationship it seems to be about. |

Seems to be about Stephen Dedalus's mother in Ulysses (James Joyce). The album title (EVOL) might also be partially inspired by a line from that book. |

Nobody sets out to be a loser. I think it's about regret and self-hatred, that Patton thinks white-trash is feeling or should be feeling. But basically everyone can end up like this guy. Might be a reflection of Mike's own feelings about how he could've ended up like this. |

Way to misunderstand people Thru?Being?Intelligent. Bush is the one disgracing that day by using it for political gain. I managed to understand that messaage in his post, I wonder why you couldn't. But then, I also knew that the US isn't using up their Alaskan oil reserves yet, so maybe I'm expecting too much of you. But I do applaud your idealism. "He went to Yale, one of the nation's most prestigous university." Because a bad SAT grade certainly couldn't ever outweigh, say, money, politics and power. Not in one of your nation's most "Prestigous university" (Sic).
Also, I find it disheartening to read that you find the ideals your country apparently stands for to be bad for troop morale.
Back to 9/11 -- once people stop parading that date around on T-shirts, how long do you think before that memory fades, like most of your country's history? Go out into the street now and poll 20 people, see how many of them remember the dates of the Kennedy Assassination, Pearl Harbour, the Oklahoma City Bombing, etc. and see how many of the basic facts they can remember. Or better yet, see if they remember the days the US dropped Fat Man and Little Boy or the day they attacked Bosnia, or Afghanistan, or Panama, or Chile. Ask them to find Nicaragua on a map. Ask them what Iran-Contra was. See if they know that US companies sold arms to Hitler, or that pro-Nazi rallies were held in Madison Square Garden prior to WW2. Hell, ask them when the FIRST Iraq war was. If you wanna talk about how important events are to your country, lets see what your country actually remembers about them.
There are reasons why so many people hate your country. Yiou telling people to move to Canada and then claiming that THEY'RE ignorant doesn't help. |

It's about all of them, nu-metal bitches, angry teenage boys, angry teenage girls, whiney man-children, Jocks, geeks, nerds, goths, emokids, Nazi Punks, Sammy Hagar and the Pimped up Gangstas...... it's abotu everybody who feels the need to conform/act stupid/be an asshole/join a clique &c. there's no need to try to limit it to a few specific categories. It's about everybody who thinks they're rebelling when they're doing the opposite, coming from a band that really does strive to standd out and be unique. |

Is it just a coincidence that most people who don't like the song either misunderstand it or are idiots who think artists shouldn't be involved in politics?

Misfits – Last Caress Lyrics
|
Just to have the last word on this whole conservativepunk thing (more because I enjoy having the last word on things than to actually contribute anything), it is impossible to be a conservative punk. To quote Jello Biafra "Punk means thinking for yourself". If you label yourself as a conservative, you're already pidgeonholing your mind, and therefore going against everything punk is supposed to stand for. Never mind the fact that punk's rebellious and Carpe Diem attitude are completely at odds with conservatism. Try going to their forums and looking for someone who's acting vaguely rebellious or independent. IT's just another propaganda site, but with the added agenda of trying to dupe a bunch of teenagers. For fuck's sake, they link anti-anti-flag.com.
Listen to some of the conservative bands they promotew (like the conveniently named "Flipperfloppers", who -- coincidentally, I'm sure -- don't seem to have liked John Kerry) -- it's some of the most boring, immitative, identikit pop-punk you'll ever hear. And some of it's just Bar Mitzvah quality ripoffs of bands like *GASP* Anti-Flag and NOFX!
djloki and everyone who's on his side, I just hope you realize that "conservative punks" would never have written songs like this one. They would never have formed bands like the Misfits or The Clash or The Dead Kennedys or The Germs or Gism or Crucifix or Crass or Refused or Minor Threat. They would have sung Good Charlotte-Standard songs about the joys of low taxes and lots of pollution.
There's nothing wrong with agreeing with something right-wing if you actually believe it, but try putting some effort into recognizing bullshit. |

The Name of the song is SWEAT Loaf, not sweet. Exact, try living up to your name and being a little more accurate with your postings.
The guitar riff is a warped version of the riff from "Sweet Leaf" by Black Sabbath. |

As far as I know, he never did (even though there's plenty of books about his trial). I think it's more of a comment on him "winning", how he can get off light and then profit from his infamy. Remember, this was written before he got out, so Jello didn't know what White was gonna do. |

Million Dead – Smiling At Strangers On Trains Lyrics

The name's taken from 'The Apollo Programme was a Hoax' by Refused.
"Suck on my words for a while and
choke on the truth of a million dead"
But you're right about it meaning different things, one of the attraction of the name was probably that it's in line with their political streak, and it lends itself to additional meanigns or associations with some of their songs' themes. |

Bushh8er, just to add something, in addition to being of Armenian descent, at least one member of the band (I think it was Daron, don't hold me to it) actually has family living in Iraq, so they do have a person -- as well as political and moral -- reason behind their opinions. I think it was when they were interviewed about the video for 'Boom'. |
