27 Lyrics
I'm not seventeen
And going on nowhere fast
A decade lost in the East Bay fog
Birthday cards thrown in the trash
Last years' calendar
On the wall, collecting dust
My friends say to tear it down
But instead I'll leave it up
And now I'm 27
Driving to the 7-11
When I turn 28
Will I end up losing faith
Promises decayed
On expiration dates
New Years resolutions sold
To the bums out on the street
What was it all worth?
And was it worth the while
Lost and found and ten years down
And torched it to the ground
Will I still stand in line
When I turn 29?
But now I'll take a number
And it reads 27
And going on nowhere fast
A decade lost in the East Bay fog
Birthday cards thrown in the trash
Last years' calendar
On the wall, collecting dust
My friends say to tear it down
But instead I'll leave it up
Driving to the 7-11
When I turn 28
Will I end up losing faith
On expiration dates
New Years resolutions sold
To the bums out on the street
What was it all worth?
And was it worth the while
Lost and found and ten years down
And torched it to the ground
When I turn 29?
But now I'll take a number
And it reads 27

P.S. Billie Joe Armstrong, has a tatoo that says 27 on his arm...
"like my father's come to pass SEVEN YEARS has gone so fast"
"Like my father's come to pass, TWENTY YEARS has gone so fast"
(come on now you mathkids... ill do it with you, 20+7=27)
"This dirty town is BURNING down in my dreams"
"LOST AND FOUND, city bound in my dreams"
"i'm the resident leader of the LOST AND FOUND"
"ath the center of the earth in the center of the earth in the parking lot of the 7-11 where i was taught"
(all lyrics from the American Idiot Album)
See the relation? I can't say it really does relate though, hence i don't know whether or not bill wrote the lyrics or not to "27." man i love picking apart meanings to GD songs...if only i could ever be certain.

oh here's more..................
"from the 7-11 to the fear of breaking down"
^^ damn dude, kind of an insane oddity how much these lyrics could be based of the others.... i mean, they fit and make perfect sense together.
IF BILLIE JOE EVER READ THIS
Billie Joe, i would kill to talk to you about just everything one day; if you werent famous maybe i could. your one in a billion, no one thinks at the level you're at. the same one i'm on. When you can take simplicity, but make it insanely depicatble to a very deeper meaning. People can enjoy your words, or take them into high, high, high consideration. i have horrible anxiety because of things like this. Sometimes i wish someone out there will find me, someone like me.
you're famous...unreachable.
27 is also the number of a band called 'The Riverdales'...they're on Lookout! records...all members are ex (or also) members of Screaching Weasel (Tré and Mike's band...)...and their first album was released in June 1996 and was produced in part by Billie Joe...
so it means that for sure that's what the 27 means...think i broke the mystery here...loll
Nyways..had to write that...
That's correct. I've got an old interview with Billie where he mentions getting the 27 tattoo to celebrate the Riverdales album.

I don't think Tre and Mike had anything to do with Screaching Weasel.
how do u people know this stuff, i mean wow
mike played bass in screaching weasel but tre has no relation to them
Correct. Mike played bass on Screeching Weasel's "How to Make Enemies and irritate People" album. Tre came from Lookout Record's founder's (larry Livermore) band called The Lookouts.
