Insane Clown Posse – I Stab People Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
I read an interview where they said this song dealt with the existential dilemma about having homosexual cravings in a peer group of predominantly homophobic men. 'Stabbing' clearly being metaphorical for gay sex, and the cry for help at the beginning and end is due to the feeling of conflict between what friends say and what the individual desires. The speaker is both proud and ashamed of gay acts and/or fantasies with anonymous strangers, as well as with those same homophobic friends and acquaintences. |

Indochine – Le Manoir Lyrics

Je trouve cette chanson tellement belle--chacque fois que je l'endends, je m'arrette pour l'ecouter. J'y trouve un aspet de fantasie qu'on ne trouve pas souvent dans les chansons de cet artiste. |

Modest Mouse – Float On Lyrics

This song ranks up with The Cure's "Just Like Heaven" as one of the most deceptively depressing songs ever written. On the surface, it's a happy song about everything going okay, but I believe underneath, it is about denial and futile optimism. It is about how we will -not- float on OK. We'll all sink, even when we try to look at things positively.
The problem is that it's been taken out of context when we hear it on the radio. I have to say that Good News is one of the most profoundly depressing albums I own, and I have the complete recordings of Joy Division. |

Great cover, though no one can touch Lennon. The video was great until the singing babydolls ruined the whole feel. |

311 – Lovesong (The Cure cover) Lyrics

This song is about Robert Smith's love for Mary Poole, and while as far as covers go, this is not bad, I don't think they should have covered another man's wedding gift to his wife. Especially not to release as a single.
A Perfect Circle never did do a studio recording of their mesh of this song and "Diary of a Madman", and so they are excused for having covered this song, which I think should never be covered. |

I was watching the old version of Romeo and Juliet the other day and it struck me that this song is very Romeo and Juliet: "Love is suicide" - no one knows it better |

Radiohead – 2 + 2 = 5 (The Lukewarm) Lyrics

"Go and tell the king
That the sky is falling in
When it's not"
I think that this line is a reference to how Bush was told that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq when there were not. |

On bookofcruxshadows.com, there's a brilliant explanation for this song. Basically, it's the question of if Ra is El (Hebrew god). |

The Cruxshadows – Dance Floor Metaphor Lyrics
| 20 years ago
|
At first I thought it was silly that an EBM song says to 'take back the dancefloor' because of the way that EBM has complete control of it already, I eventually realized that it's an anti-drug song about taking the dancefloor back from ecstacty. The line that led me to believe this is "The candy faces are all I need/To make my heartbeat faster" and the rest just makes sense. |

Joy Division – Isolation Lyrics

After having read Dostoyevsky's The Idiot, I have come to believe that the line "A blindness that touches perfection/But hurts just like anything else" is referring to the first split second of an epilleptic attack which Dostoyevsky referred to as some sort of complete enlightenment. |

The Cure – 39 Lyrics

Quite simply, it's about getting old. Fat Bob wrote it when he was 39, hence the name.
And it's about drugs. |
