drilling teeth is a tedious process that really no one enjoys. soiling sheets is either embarrassing or from sex... probably from sex b/c the next line is "with my lover."
"You pull them out, feel they're changed"
possibly referring to cavaties and teeth that have to be removed because of them.
my analysis is this: the teeth are a symbol of relationships. the drilling represents the the pain and tediousness of thinking about past relationships while currently in one... i don't know, some kind of battle between cavaties and healthy teeth. or between nostalgic past loves and living in the present. the part about pulling the teeth out kind of just makes me think this even more. you can end past relationships, put them out of your mind, but they are still with you. kind of like cavaties. you may have gotten rid of them, but you still had them. and what is causing them? |

OH MY GOD. someone said that there wasn't much to this song. i'm not sure if they have ever heard it then... because one, when you interpret a SONG, you have to include the music, and not just the lyrics.
this song is rumored to be one of the best modern rock love songs in 20 years. it's simple lyrics are deepened by the complicated guitar. if you listen, there are two guitars playing the same notes on different scales at the same time at one point.
and then there is the breakdown. amazing. the lyrics really tie into it, so it kind of flows like real life...
"wait, they don't love you like i love you. maaaps!!"

the speaker is talking to a lover, pleading with them, and once the lover leaves, the speaker breaks down completely. (guitar breakdown).
as for the video, it reflects the simple complexity of the song. the band is just performing, but the enormity of the song and the emotions it brings forth makes karen o cry in the video. |

my favorite line from this song is when the speaker changes his voice to a falsetto and does an imitation of his friends making fun of him for being "allergic to love."
i think that this particular song is about the speaker's childhood and its similarity to his present day life, (especially concerning his love life... he avoids love.)
