Its talking about the way people, believing their penance absolves them of guilt, fail to recognize their past wrongs (and their complicity in them). And then they continue their wrongs, always assured of their continuing forgiveness. Belief keeps them from recognizing their fault, because they continue to find absolution.
I don't think its specifically anti-christian (or anti-any religion). Its more of an opposition to the hypocritical, self-delusional aspects of religions and portions of their adherents.
And on the pentacle, most of you have no clue what you're talking about. Its currently used for Wicca/Neopagnism and Satanism (neither of which is evil, neither of which have much in common). The symbol has also been used (in the past) by Judaism, Christianity, and various occult and ritual magic purposes. All of which have their own definitions for the symbol's meaning. |

This seems to be describing a myriad of Lovecraftian entities and the destruction of the universe. Nyarlathotep and the Shaggai (plural for Shoggoth?) are from H. P. Lovecraft's horror stories. The piping daemonium flutes and blind idiot god are probably references to Azathoth, also one of Lovecraft's creations. |

Dead produced Mayhem's best vocals and lyrical concepts so far; unfortunately he wasn't as competent at the actual songwriting. The lyrics are mostly good, but they could have been so much better had they been put into words by a better writer. |

Kanwulf has said that he wrote this song as a memorial to the member of his family who were killed in the two World Wars.
Saying that he is the wolf and the lamb seems to me to be a metaphor for saying how he is a both a killer (because he is a soldier, and so he must kill), yet he is also a victim, both because of whoever eventually killed him, and because of the greater evil (the war) that he is a victim to.
Kanwulf has, in interviews, lamented the fact that virtually all German soldiers in WWII have been demonized, based largely on the actions of a relative few (namely the SS and Gestapo). Most of the German soldiers in WWII were just normal people (many of them were forced into service). Hell, I should know; some of my relatives served in the German army and navy during WWII; none of them were evil by any means.
Things like that would seem to be where stuff like "Call me now Judas or call me insane, I am what I am, I'm just a man" comes in; most of them were just human beings, not sociopaths or evil people. |

The song was written by Kanwulf as a memorial to Erik (aka Grim), former drummer of Gorgoroth, Immortal, and Borknagar. Erik committed suicide of a drug overdose.

I read an interview with Dead and Euronymous in which they said that De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas was the name of an occult book, supposedly with only one copy in existence.
They said that the title means (in Latin) "the Mysterious Rites of Lord Satan", though this translation seems to be incorrect. The word "Dom" does not exist in Latin, though it may be an abbreviation of "Dominus". In which case it would translate (roughly) as "The Mysteries of Lord Satan". |

Maniac's lyrics on the Deathcrush EP are OK, his newer lyrics aren't that great. Attilas lyrics, however, are just horrible. The bastard completely ruined the album. Dead is, in my opinion, one of the best BM vocalists. |
