Electric Six – Gay Bar Part Two Lyrics

I get the feeling that the band was really irritated by people asking them to write a sequel to Gay Bar...
If they changed labels, I think it may be a middle finger extended in the general direction of the old one. |

I'm never getting old, never getting married, and never having kids.
If i somehow do, this will probably be the theme song for my mid-life crisis. |

Television Personalities – Ex-Girlfriend Club Lyrics

What a great song... these guys have been around forever, but this is the first tune to strike a chord with me. The "heroin" beat is quite interesting.
incredible. the rest of the album is too much work to transcribe, but I kind of like "she can stop traffic" as well.
thanks to indiekids.org for turning me on to this one.
It's too bad I can't understand half of what he's saying, but I did my best on the lyrics... I'll update if anyone has a better suggestion. |

Misfits – Where Eagles Dare Lyrics

I get the feeling that this song is about getting high and having sex with a prostitute who has flashbacks about a past rape and calls the guy "a god damn son of a bitch." Which, of course, illicits the reaction of the chorus. |

Skid Row – 18 And Life Lyrics

No, I don't think he went to jail in the literal sense... The 18 and life has more to do with the fact that he can do nothing to change his circumstance. He's essentially living a life where he's trapped and unable to better himself.
He grew up in the on the street, knocked a girl up, had a shotgun wedding, and now he's going to raise a kid just like him.
This song represents the endless circle of poverty and the hopelessness of those trapped within it. At what point does a person realize that their dreams of a better life are pointless?
The song is a lot deeper than just some kid going to jail for life... |

Drivin' N' Cryin' – Straight to Hell Lyrics
| 20 years ago
|
A kid has to deal with a town's scorn because his mom is a known harlot. His mom doesn't want him to end up like her and applies a double standard to his activities. His girlfriend's mother thinks he is a scumbag, so he runs away with his girlfriend. Of course, he still yearns for his mothers approval despite her actions towards him. |

Neil Young – Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black) Lyrics

Johnny Rotten was the front-man for the Sex Pistols. After he left in 1978, the band imploded.
This song was released a year later, in 1979.
I think this song is about bands breaking up. Although the bands fade, the music never dies. |

Some things just should have been different....
This song has a depressing mood about it. It makes you think about how things could have been different... or should have been different. |

Jay-Z – 99 Problems Lyrics
|
A remake of the Ice-T song, which was also revisited by Trick Daddy.
Anyway, "Rick" at the end is Rick Rubin, co-founder of Def Jam who spun off to Def American and signed Danzig and The Cult. He also worked with Ice-T, who had the similarly metal-sounding band Body Count. This explains why Jay-Z is doing a rock/rap crossover.
As for meaning in the song: No matter what kind of problems you are facing in life, none are as bad as having problems with your significant other. I guess if you treat them with the disrespect you would give a prostitute or a groupie, you never get attached and you don't have to worry about it.
Damn fine advice. |

The Prodigy – Narayan Lyrics

Om Naamah Narayana
Om is the most sacred mystic syllable in Hindu, and is an invocation sort of chant in this sense
Namaah means "the beautiful"
Narayana is the Hindu creator god
As far as meaning in the song; I see none...
I know nothing of the members of the prodigy, but considering the religous reference in jericho and this song, I wonder if one of them might have a theological background |

Lasgo – Something Lyrics

yes he loves her...
but she is "bi-curious" as they say. When he found out, he couldn't cope with the fact that that she needed someone else and bailed on her.
She still loves him deeply (as much as ever), but he feels like she cheated on him. It makes no difference whether it was with a girl or guy. |

Cake – The Distance Lyrics

Not to be vile, but when I bought the CD back in the day, I thought it was about a guy obsessed with masturbating, while his wife wonders why he isn't more interested with her.
Why do guys do it while their wife is ready and willing nearby? Who knows.
Of course that parallels the comment by anglsmourningview, but with a different twist. |
