I think the reason a lot of people are saying she sings with no passion is because they have the official release. The original version, the one produced by Jon Brion, puts everything on the official release to shame. It's amazing how Mike Elizondo managed to take all of the warmth out of this album and make Fiona sound so detached all the time.
So, get online and download the bootleg. I'll never understand why Sony shelved the only bearable version of this album, and then released Elizondo's horrendous reworking. |

It's about a relationship. You take it for granted and can't stay clear of the drama. He gets fed up, dumps you. And now you cry because you know it was all your fault and you ruined a good thing. |

I've had this exact experience. Meeting up with an old friend, with whom it never would have worked out, and you want to go for it, because you know if circumstances were a little bit different, it could be something great.
And there's the tension. And the inability to be completely honest because of said circumstance. It's all up in the air, and it never gets resolved. And you just have to accept it, I guess. |

Sounds to me like it's about X. The lyrics are vague but pretty descriptive. If you've ever done it in the past, you should be convinced that it's about ecstacy. But I can understand how those who have never tried it might not get it.
1. Like a fresh battery, I'm energized by you. (Obvious)
2. Don't let it go away, this feeling has got to stay. (There's never been a time I was rolling where I didn't wish it could go on forever and ever.)
3. My normal hesitation is gone. (Lowered inhibitions)
4. I'm learning about you. (It's like seeing everything for the first time again, when you're on X.)
5. I'll be back in line with my broken heart. (i.e. sketching the next morning, but come next weekend, you're ready to drop again)
Actually, the more I think about it, the more convinced I am it's about X. |

This is the ultimate "what if?" story of any one-night stand. No matter how much we like to think we can enjoy the moment and take it for what it is, when it's passed us by we're left wanting, wishing it could go on longer, even when we know it can't. |

One of those songs that you don't have to understand to love. The only real French I know, I've learned from Mme. Piaf. |

When I was 17, I identified with this song in a way I can't even fathom today. That's the thing about Sarah's music.
It gets to you in a place you can't really describe. |

I think it's about a guy who sees this depressed chick and he just really wants to save her, from her family and from herself. And it's like he always has to convince her to live. It sounds like he's constantly begging her to try to be happy or at best, to not self-destruct. |
