Quasi – The Golden Egg Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is just hauntingly beautiful and sinks you into this serene feeling of calm from the very first note.

I know a lot of people can't focus on Quasi songs without linking them to Elliott Smith, but I do have to mention that it always makes me think of him. It was in his playlist during a broadcasting of XFM's Hijack. It always makes me smile when he stammers out in his mildly awkward manner, "It's a beautiful song, I think, and, um... so, let's hear it!"

Man, at some parts of this song, the vocals remind me so much of Chris Carrabba. I actually checked to see it wasn't him singing. Either there's a Dashboard influence here, or they just sing very similarly.

Miley Cyrus – East Northumberland High Lyrics 17 years ago
Anyone who complains about Miley Cyrus is a 15-year-old girl who thinks she has a chance with any of the Jonas Brothers and can't stand that one of them liked Miley enough to date her.

And who also clearly have NO idea what the word raspy means.

Hmm.

Jonas Brothers – Move On Lyrics 17 years ago
Umm, by the way, xoOhMyJonasxo, you're an idiot. Have you even listened to 7 Things until the end? You know, when she starts singing "the 7 things I LIKE about you"? Her song is about being hesitant about starting a relationship over because of all the guy's vices, but in the end, realizing that there are also a lot of great things.

This song is pretty much just "leave me alone, I'm an asshole".

Kill Hannah – Sick Boy Lyrics 18 years ago
I think that the girl in question doesn't want him to be doing all the drugs that he's doing.

By grabbing him by the throat and saying I love you, I always pictured it as her being harsh and firm with him and saying that she loves him and, therefore, doesn't want to lose him to drugs. She wants him to sober up because he's become too dependent and it's dangerous.

That's just what I always thought.

Imogen Heap – Clear the Area Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this can mean different things to different people, but considering the "you find your way back down", I agree that this is mostly about drugs. It's a very relatable song if you've been through this with someone who has an addiction. Peterpiper's analysis was really good; the paranoia during the high, waiting with them while they're coming down, being prepared for them.

I've been in the situation of the speaker (Imogen) a few times and it really is how you have to talk to someone, especially when they're in a state of paranoia or fear. Reassurance, telling them you love them and you care about them, etc. I love how she captures it all in this song.

I don't think this is disappointing at all. It isn't one of my favorites, either, but I don't think that's enough to say he's worse than he was before or anything. Sometimes artists just come out with albums that appeal only to a certain part of their fanbase and not the other.

Anyway, lovely song regardless. I'm so excited & can hardly wait for March 6th.

Natalie Walker – Waking Dream Lyrics 19 years ago
I hope I didn't get any of this wrong, 'cause I couldn't find these lyrics either, so this is all by ear. I think everything except 'Safe inside my mind, my head' is right. It sounds like she's saying your head, or our head, or something.

I hate to be one of those people who's like, "THIS IS DEFINITELY ABOUT DRUGS, YOU GUYS." I usually look for a deeper meaning on songs. But as I was transcribing this, I couldn't help but feel that this might really be about drugs. It'd make a lot of sense. Feeling of release... tasting life, numb again... etc. I don't do drugs or anything, it's just... yeah. Seems a bit obvious.

Natalie Walker – Circles Lyrics 19 years ago
NOTE: I know these lyrics are incomplete. I can't find them posted anywhere, so I did this all by ear, and anyone who listens to Natalie knows how hard it is to make out her words sometimes. I left any parts I couldn't make out blank, so that's why some lines may not make sense.

Natalie's voice is so hauntingly beautiful. This song is about the wife of a soldier at war. In the first stanza, she has just found out about his death. In the second stanza, it's describing how she reacts to it. She tries to shun all the memories out of her mind to stay strong, but she's failing fast.

Then the third, fourth, and fifth stanzas are about her giving birth to their child that she was pregnant with. The baby looks like her husband did. It's her sweetest gift, and it's a reminder to her that the world always gives back to you, even after insurmountable pain.

Johnny Hollow – Gone Lyrics 19 years ago
I could be wrong, but it always seemed obvious to me just from the first few lines that this song is about watching someone close to you suffer, most likely from something they're doing to themselves (drug abuse, alcoholism, etc.). I've always related it to a friend of mine who was starting to get intro drugs and losing himself.

Okay, so here's my analysis (I'm just gonna refer to the speaker as Johnny to avoid confusion):

The first couple stanzas are basically just saying, "I don't want to watch you kill yourself slowly/become someone you're not." All the good memories with this person are being sort of overshadowed by the worry Johnny feels because of the situation they're in. Johnny knows he can't do anything to save them if they don't want to save themselves (hence it being hopeless).

The next stanza starts by detailing what the person is to Johnny. They're obviously important to him. He sees them as a fallen angel of sorts. They're beautiful in whatever way, but they've become tattered or broken because of what they're doing to themselves. It isn't fair to him what they've become. I'm not sure what the whole sitting on Hell's throne and fire that won't quit thing means, but I think it can be one of two things. He could be saying that he has to play the role of the "bad guy", because generally when someone has a substance abuse problem they get very irritated and angry with you when you try to talk them out of their ways. The ones who care are usually the ones who get the most attitude and get hurt the most. The fire that won't quit could be a direct reference to himself, saying that he's going to constantly be on this person's case and not back down.

It could also just mean that he finds himself in such an awful position and is being really hurt by what the person's doing, and is saying that the whole ordeal is Hell for him.

And the last stanza, which to me is the saddest, is him having to let go. He's saying that he's always fighting for this person, but that his words and his pleas fall on deaf ears, so it's really a silent fight. He knows that there's nothing he can do to make things right for the person, so he just has to let go of them (saying goodnight).

So really, it has a very tragic meaning, especially if you go through this yourself with a loved one.

Death Cab for Cutie – Transatlanticism Lyrics 19 years ago
This is such a beautiful, sad song, which is obviously about a long-distance relationship. I don't think that the idea of the long-distance relationship has to be limited to the lovers being in separate parts of the world, though. I think it could be easily related to by people who can't see each other even if they live 20 minutes away, for whatever reason.

I saw Death Cab last Saturday night. They haven't been to Ottawa in so long, I'm not even sure if they ever have been at all. Anyway, they played a lot off Plans obviously, and a few songs off The Photo Album and Transatlanticism and even one each off Something About Airplanes and We Have The Facts And We're Voting Yes. But all night, I waited for either Transatlanticism or A Lack Of Color.

They finally played Transatlanticism as the last song of the night. It was so incredible to hear it live. Aside from people around me starting to clap rythmically and make it sound like a friggin' campfire song at one point, it was amazing to feel the music just... surround you. And the way Ben sang, "So come on," at the end was so soft and sweet and sorrowful that it almost moved me to tears.

I love this version so much more than the original version by The Spoons. It's so lovely and wistful and... mm. I'm not sure what the meaning of the song is supposed to be, but the chorus always reminds me of the comfort of being in a relationship and the feeling of reliance, dependency, and security you get from the other person.

Bright Eyes – You Will. You? Will. You? Will. You? Will. Lyrics 19 years ago
I was going to ask why no one else had heard the footsteps in the song, but then I saw Mandolynn's comment. That was actually one of my favorite parts of this song, aside from the lyrics and the whole song in general. Hearing his foosteps as he gets nearer and nearer to the mic.

I think the way he comes in louder at the end adds to the happy sort of hopefulness, especially since he becomes so clear starting at the line "You will return to me."

This song is great for anyone who's in love with someone who doesn't know/who doesn't love them back yet and needs a little bit of a boost of hope.

Coldplay – X&Y Lyrics 19 years ago
I like that this song can be taken as a more literal meaning as well. For me, the lyrics themselves describe a situation I'm in without any hidden meaning or anything, especially the second verse.

"I dive in at the deep end
You become my best friend
I wanna love you but I don’t know if I can
I know something is broken
and I’m trying to fix it
Trying to repair it anyway I can"

This really perfectly describes my relationship with someone. I hated him when I first met him, but then I lightened up and decided to give him a chance... diving in at the deep end, not knowing what I was getting into but taking a chance anyway. He became my best friend for a year shortly after that, and then I wanted to date him, but I wasn't sure if I should tell him in case it ruined our friendship. I also had just gotten out of a bad relationship, so I wasn't too sure if I was ready to love again at the risk of getting hurt. We dated for a year and then broke up, and when I heard this song our friendship was really rocky. I knew it was broken, and I was always trying to be really normal to him and repair our relationship any way I could.

So yeah. :D

I saw Coldplay in Ottawa two nights ago. My seats were in the 300's level, but it didn't even matter that I was up so high. The show was still amazing.

This was the first song they played for the encore. It was such a moment song, haha. It was really something live. The whole show aside from the more mellow songs such as this and X&Y and Trouble was full of energy. They're such great performers.

Bright Eyes – One Foot in Front of the Other Lyrics 20 years ago
I must say, I've heard both this version and the one under the title Landlocked Blues. I personally like this better because when you listen to it on headphones or on your stereo really loud the sound of it just seems to surround you and wash over you... to me, anyway. The piano and other instruments in the background I just really love.

I heard this song first when I was going through a rough time with my best friend of 3 years that I dated for 1 year. I was contemplating taking a break from talking to him because after we broke up things got weird and then he just acted like a jerk. I knew we never took enough time to be apart from each other after the break-up so I was seriously considering just telling him we shouldn't talk until we were both over everything.

And I was listening to this song after a conversation with him, and it just at that time related so well to me. Just how some of the lyrics seem to relate so much to leaving something behind and not wanting your path to cross with another person's... it felt like that at the time. I wanted to get away from him for a while and not let our paths cross again until we were ready.

But I just remember lying on my bed listening to this, still feeling heart-broken about him because I knew I was still too in love with him, and then the line "Baby, don't go away, come here," came on.

And simply because it was worded that way, like talking in such a heart-felt way to someone and asking them not to leave...

I burst into tears.

Hahahaha. Oh man.

Hanson – MMMBop Lyrics 20 years ago
Alright. I don't give a shit to say this. I know my name is BritneySpears Sucks, so I might seem hypocritical. But a) I was 11 when I made my screenname (now I'm 15). And b) Britney's still a big whore with shitty music compared to Hanson.

I just wanted to say I love Hanson. Yes I don't care. I don't happen to think that anyone ever really starts to hate music they used to like. They can pretend they did because they're embarassed, but no. Stfu. Half of these 'punk' kids on here are like the kids at my school who pretend they hate the music they used to love. YEAH RIIIGHT.

Hanson's Middle Of Nowhere was the first CD I ever owned, and I was 7. I was in love with Taylor Hanson at the time, and I don't care about admitting that when I see a picture of him now, I still squeal like a little girl. THAT'S RIGHT. HE'S STILL THE HOTTEST PIECE OF BITCH EVER. I know he looked sort of like Claire Danes when he was younger but now you can't say a THING because feminine men are popping up everywheeeere.

They're the only band I've really ever grown up liking, with ever new album and song they released. *Sobs*

P.S. The acoustic version of Penny And Me is the most happy-feeling-inducing song for me ever.

Deftones – Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event Lyrics 20 years ago
I never really knew what the song meant, but I remember I heard it during a particularly depressing part of my life where I felt my now ex was drifting away from me and on the verge of breaking up with me.

I just remember the most two prominent lines of the song to me at that time, which were prominent because they both spoke of leaving, regardless, to me, of the rest of the song. "No more gold lights for your queen earth"... it just made me sad because it was like there isn't anything beautiful anymore (gold lights) and it seemed like that to me at the time... our relationship was dying and all the great moments and beautiful things about it were just gone. Then the other line, "Not since you left have the waves come"... I didn't really know what that could've meant, but you know how when you're really upset about a relationship, even hearing words that sound like they're describing someone leaving or someone being alone, they can make you feel terrible? That's just how i felt about hearing "not since you left".

So yeah. It's nice to understand now what the song could be about... and ironically enough most people seem to believe it could be about the end of a relationship.

Now I don't miss the person anymore, but it still brings me back to this one certain day I had with them when this song was stuck in my head, and it reminds me of that day, and I get this weird hollow feeling, even though I've completely moved on... Dashboard Confessional – For You To Notice Lyrics 21 years ago
The way I see this song is different from the initial message. I happened to hear this song for the first time the day before my boyfriend of almost a year broke up with me for unknown reasons, and when I listened to this song it just reminded me of how much he had changed the month before the break up, and how I should've known he would've done it. When I listened to it I would obviously start crying, not only because it's really friggin' sad, but because it was like it was me saying those things from when I was trying to get him to realize I was still his girlfriend, that he once loved me... to get him to notice me. Now it reminds me of the months when I would be depressed, and mostly the hard and emotionally tiring rest of the month when he'd broken up with me.

Okay... the first time I heard this song, I didn't like it at all. To me, the lyrics are stupid and don't have any real meaning aside from the singer saying he's tough. Oo. Real deep. It sounds more pop than rock and the music for it is just annoying in general. I only know three people who actually like this song out of all my friends. Avril Lavigne – Sk8er Boi Lyrics 23 years ago
Before I knew who Avril Lavigne was, I liked this song. The lyrics don't give much of an example of creative writing skills, but I like the sound. I also liked Avril when I heard this song at first because I thought all her other music was like this and I was glad to hear another new female singer who didn't sing like many other female singers do.
Then she became more popular and when I saw her whole fake punk act and heard that her music was, in fact, not like the one song Skater Boy (I refuse to spell it the way it's really spelled), I disliked her. But I still do like the music for this song.
I'm not going to repeat what I think of Avril, so see my comment for "Complicated". But I'd like to say something I forgot to mention in the other comment... Avril Lavigne made a comment once that was along the lines of "I'm the Sid Vicious of this generation." Sorry, sweetie, but you definitely aren't. For those of you who don't know, Sid Vicious (aka John Simon Ritchie) was the bass player in one of the most influential punk bands of the 70's, the Sex Pistols (a REAL punk band) who died at the age of 21, commiting suicide after killing his lover, Nancy Spungen (you may have heard of the couple as Sid & Nancy). She probably doesn't even really know who Sid Vicious is, nor do her pre-pubescent fans. I'm only 13 and I know who he is... I've been on this Earth for a shorter time than she has. Well, that's all I want to say.

Blink-182 – Fuck a Dog Lyrics 23 years ago
Alright. I think that in these arguments, both the Blink haters and Blink fans were in the wrong.
First I'll state my opinion about the song. Personally, I think it's really stupid. I'm 13 and a lot of things that are stupid or rude amuse me, but this is just plain pointless.
To the Blink haters, I don't know why you keep talking about Blink being a corporate sell-out. That has nothing to do with this song, now does it? Sure, you may think it's affected their music, but it still really doesn't have much to do with this song in particular. That's talking about Blink 182 as a group. This page's purpose is to allow people to discuss this song. Also, the whole sell-out thing is becoming repetitive. In discussions about some of Blink's other songs, it comes up as well... and again is said over, and over, and over. If you say it once I'm pretty sure people will know that that's what you think.
To the Blink fans... you're only giving the Blink haters satisfaction by posting homophobic comments and calling them all "fucking losers" and whatnot, because then they can just say that you're proving that Blink fans are morons (due to the fact you aren't posting many intelligent posts or reasonable comebacks). I'm not saying it's wrong to defend the band you like, but couldn't you think of something a little more sensible to say...?
I'm neither a Blink hater nor a complete Blink fan. I like some of their songs. I listen to their music once in a while. So what I say isn't biased. If you reply to my comment, keep that in mind.
Oh, and to Bizznatch, who said this:

by Bizznatch on 08-03-2002 @ 09:52:41 PM
Any who talks shit about Blink 182 in Blink 182's area are pretty fucking gay. If you have a problem with them nobody hear wants to see your childish Bullshit. If you have a problem with Blink 182, go post it in your gay ass Death Metal bullshit band's area, and go fuck yourself. Have a nice day.

You contradicted yourself right there. You said that if people had a problem with Blink 182, no one wanted to heard their childish bullshit. Then you went on to say "If you have a problem with Blink 182, go post it in your gay ass Death Metal bullshit band's area, and go fuck yourself." What if someone here likes Death Metal? They wouldn't want to hear YOUR childish bullshit, now would they? Point made.
I know I'm rather late for the discussion about this song, but I feel I just had to say that.

Oh, and I forgot to mention in my previous comment... she is also very rude. Sure, she acts nice and behaves well for those interviewers who write for magazines and things like that, but not to an interviewer who is just a free-lance writer or writes for something not as big. Take a look at Chet Healey's interviews, found at the address http://www10.brinkster.com/chetceleb/index.html There are three Avril Lavigne interviews there that made my dislike for her grow even stronger.

Avril Lavigne – Complicated Lyrics 23 years ago
Ayugh. I'm too lazy to read any of the above comments considering there're 707 of them so I'll just say what I wanna say and if it's been discussed already or something then sorry to bring it up again. I just really dislike Avril, not because of the music she does. I have no problem with it. What I DO have a problem with is the whole "sk8er punk" act she puts on, as do a lot of people. But the people I see say "She's a poser! Her music sucks!" Like I said, people might enjoy her music so I'm not gonna say it sucks. Personally, I dislike it. But I really would have a lot more respect for her and her music if she would just admit to being what she is. She's a pop singer. Sorry if I put a bunch of her "punk rawk" pre-pubescent fans into a cardiac arrest with that statement, but it's true.

Clothes don't define who you are. Everyone calls my best friend a prep because of how she dresses, which actually isn't very preppy. They don't even get to know her and they call her preppy, they just think that clothes say it all. Stereotypes themselves are really stupid, so I would've tried to avoid saying prep and preppy, even though that's the easy way out of long explanation.

To me, Avril is really being a hypocrit. The song goes on about not being something that's fake. But really... isn't that what she is?

Noooooooooooo this is terrible! Of course I mean the song, but I'm also talking about what lizardwings182 said. I'm twelve and I, honest to God, despise pop music. When I was 11 I hated it too. And what kills me is that everyone always says stuff about the 11 and 12 year olds. Good Charlotte – The Click Lyrics 23 years ago
UnderGrads rocks! And so does this song! And it's the UnderGrads theme song! Two good things in one, no? :D Okay I'm not making any sense, it's 1:23 here, so I'm kinda tired... Anyway... Great song, great cartoon!

Sting – Fields of Gold Lyrics 23 years ago
This song means a lot to me. My cousin danced to this at her wedding. Of course, that's not why it means a lot to me. My Grandmother died of lung cancer a few weeks ago, and my mother has a burnt CD of songs that my Grandmother liked. Fields of Gold is one of them, and it reminds me of her so much, especially when the lyrics say "You'll remember me when the west wind moves upon the fields of barley". Even aside from the fact that this was one of my Grandmother's favorites, this song is beautiful and meaningful.
