The Dude of Life – Lucy In The Subway Lyrics 22 years ago
This is an amazing song. It is making reference to "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" by the Beatles which is about drugs (LSD to be specific.) This song is showing the negative effects of drugs:

Lucy's in the subway with daffodils
She lost all of her diamonds, and she sold all her pills

Drugs may give you a temporary high, but when the night is over and the money all spent, many are left without jobs, homes and families and are forced to living on the streets. Props to Phish for a creative way to express this message.

Tom Petty – Even The Losers Lyrics 23 years ago
great song. sorta depressing though - he's saying that he was lucky as hell to ever have a girl that good but it's over, she moved on, and all he has is memories of when he wasn't such a loser.

The White Stripes – When I Hear My Name Lyrics 23 years ago
obviously none of you really appreciate music because if you did you would realize how while the lyrics are pretty fucking simple (i'm not gonna try to say they're deep) that the guitar is awesome and when you put it all together out comes... an amazing song. there is more to a song other than it's lyrics. listen to some frank zappa or dave grisman - no lyrics necessary but still you can understand it.

Bob Marley and the Wailers – One Love Lyrics 23 years ago
I'm allowed to be dissapointed in religious people, jpf, so don't give me that shit. I could easily say that all religious people are living on a crutch, guarding themselves from the harsh reality of death and life. I personally think that this song's message of unity and love could be just as nicely portrayed with the religious references. Atheists are not heartless bitches you know..

Stereophonics – Have A Nice Day Lyrics 23 years ago
ever thought of the lyrics of the song as being sarcastic? the cab driver is preaching the how horrible life is and sarcastically says "have a nice day" almost to mock their ignorance and nieve behavior. the cab driver is trying to tell them that there is more to life then there obvious attempt to just want money. ("No artists anymore, You're only in it now, To make more, more, more") Whether or not the band disliked this guy or is trying to pass on his message is the only thing i am wondering about...

Bob Marley and the Wailers – One Love Lyrics 23 years ago
you know, i never realized how religious this song was. sorta lowers my respect for marley. such a good song if you ignore the fact that he is making references to god, and god's supposed greater power throughout the song. the main idea of equality is good, but i am stuck on how he says "give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right." dissapointing indeed...

Scarface – My Block Lyrics 23 years ago
hahahahaha. i actually thought this song was a joke the first time i heard it. i don't usually take the time to say "hey this is crap" (that would take TOO much time considering how many songs are crap) but this is PARTICULARLY crappy. do you guys seriously listen to this music and find it a quality song or is it sort of like watching the christian channel.. it's a waste of time but makes you laugh hysterically cause someone was BEING serious when they wrote it. One word: OY

Phantom Planet – The Local Black And Red Lyrics 23 years ago
Yup. This song is the best Phantom Planet song easily. And I think it's talking about this girl who is depressed (that's obvious) and I think he wrote it for her, telling her that she's gotta move on. He's saying that yes bad things happen and you can regret them, but everything moves on, and you gotta move on too. ("Wish I could've stayed around to watch the last band play, hey hey hey, I heard they just broke up yesterday.") Of course I'm also the girl that proclaimed that I hate when people rip apart a song and "find" some deep bullshit metaphorical meaning in it just to seem deep and thoughtful.

Phantom Planet – California Lyrics 23 years ago
This song is good. Not great. All of you probably just have heard this one song by Phantom Planet but little do you know that the rest of their music is even better. Check out their first album (phantom planet is missing) if you really want the good stuff. "Local Black and Red" may just be one of the best damn songs of Phantom Planet but I doubt most of you have even heard it. And I bet none of you have heard "Somebody's Baby" cause it's not on a cd, but that's one of their best songs too. You're gonna have to download it if you want it and I recommend you do. And for all of you who end up hearing the rest of Phantom Planet's songs and don't like it because this particular song has a bit of pop influence and that's all you like - kill yourself now or at least don't have kids. No need to pass on bad musical taste to future generations.

Toad the Wet Sprocket – Walk On The Ocean Lyrics 23 years ago
Errgggg stupid labels. You can call it emo, rock, hell even go and call it pop and it still is a great song. This stupid debate over it's musical classification is way to reminiscent that age old shakespeare scene of "what's in a name?" Of course if any of you paid attention in english class you would of course know that the debate ends in a proclaiming that "a rose would smell as sweet as if by any other name." Give it up guys, enjoy the music.

Ocean Colour Scene – You Are Amazing Lyrics 23 years ago
Um, well the meaning of this song is very obvious so I'm not gonna try to rip it apart and search for metaphors and shit cause that would be an insult to the music. (Anyone else get pissed off when people read into such a simple and obvious concept and make it all fucked up and emotionally complicated when it doesn't have to be?) Either way, I highly recommend anyone who has good taste in music download this song immediately or they are doing an extreme disfavor to themselves and music fans everywhere. Listen, love it, spread the music.

Britney Spears – (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction (Rolling Stones cover) Lyrics 23 years ago
I could give a shit if she desicrated the holy bible.. but a stones song? Music is sacred. I don't mind if she does her own thing, destroys the world with pop music, she's not hurting me. But then she went and crossed into rock and roll and expected the fans to just sit back and let her mutate it into a sugar coated pop song? I respect her as an entertainer, she has charisma and is a great dancer, but she will NEVER top the stones. Rock and roll isn't her thing, she should stick to pop.

Jack Johnson – Posters Lyrics 23 years ago
I think every teen girl sits at home crying to this song. It's too weird how Jack so easily and simply puts such a strong and complicated emotion into words. He makes it seem way to easy. If understanding teenage insecurities was really this easy, do you really think so many would suffer? Jack Johnson is a genius.

Ben Folds Five – Evaporated Lyrics 23 years ago
I always liked Ben Folds Five, and then I heard this song, and I fell in love. I really have no reason to relate to this song; I would be an ungrateful brat to complain about my life. This song, though, expresses the pain that every person deals with. It doesn't matter how blessed a person may be, everyone experiences what it's like to have their heart torn out, whether it be from a loss of love, dissapointment, or even just self-doubt. Anyone who listens to this song without at least one tear coming to their eye is an insensitive ass, because this is possibly the most touching song ever written.

Cake – Friend Is A Four Letter Word Lyrics 23 years ago
This song, while not necessariy negative, is very sad. It's about when someone in a relationship says "let's just be FRIENDS". He is saying that when his girlfriend said that, that the word friend was as hurtful and insulting as four letter word (aka a swear). Also when he says: "end is the only part of the word, that i heard" he is saying how being friends is unimportant to him, because their relationship has ended. He also hopes that she will change her mind and stop wanting to only be friends and get back together. ("that the words you'll soon be saying
might betray the way you feel about me.") Definately one of Cake's best songs, both lyrically and musically.
