I just noticed not a single one of these posts were made at a decent hour. This does make great late night music, though...

I'd love to know the entire concept behind this album...

Pearl Jam – Do the Evolution Lyrics 20 years ago
I can't believe that no one here know this. This song/album is based largely upon the ideas written by Daniel Quinn in the book 'Ishmael'. It is about the human revolution 10,000 years ago when humans somehow became more than 'just an animal' and did not need to live by the fundamental rules of ecology. 10,000 years of living outside of our ecosystem's rules has destroyed the planet, expanded our population to breaking point and may very well prove to be our extinction. That is what this song is about. If you want to learn more, visit ishmael.com, or pick up the book at your local bookstore. It'll change your life. Even you all-american boy up there.

Evergreen Terrace – In My Dreams I Can Fly Lyrics 20 years ago
this song is great both lyrically and instrumetnally. the last bridge/breakdown is my favorite. the drummer's snare work is so precise and tight, as with all of their songs. Losing All Hope Is Freedom and At OUr Worst are my fav 2 albums, burned alive by time is premo too. big ups to Jacksonville, FL for having the best hip hop group EVER (dead Prez) and the best hardcore (maybe mathrock some songs) to date. Thanks FL even tho you still suck.

The Moirai – Water Is the New Fire Lyrics 20 years ago
I like this song on many levels. One being the melodic instrumentals the lead provides. Second the lyrics are top notch, for example:
"i've lost my faith in the human race,
our selfishness is our most endearing trait. "
Can't lose with line like that.
Another level i can appreciate this song is to being to relate to the lyrics in the end during the climax. Also the build is killer.

check out this song if you haven't already, one of their best.

Elliott – Song In The Air Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is gutwrenching. One of the best Elliott songs I've ever heard. I can't think of a better farewell to the fans than this CD, and this song. The DVD was completed, I'm waiting on my copy to arrive now. You can buy it on Spun.com for about $12.

Codeseven – Incommunicado Lyrics 20 years ago
These are my best guess. I'm pretty sure they are correct, but a lot of this song is pretty hard to make out. If anyone has any corrections, feel free to post them. This is an exellent song, though, and I thought it was a shame that no one had posted the lyrics. I couldn't find any 'official' postings anywhere, so I had to give it my best shot.

The Spill Canvas – So Much Lyrics 20 years ago
i'm pretty sure that is nick singing harmony with himself. if chris carrabba was in any way involved with this song i'm pretty sure I would be able to find something about it just by googleing 'spill canvas + chris carrabba", but nothing. it's most definitely not conor oberst. i've never heard conor hit those notes without his voice breaking. but it does sound a LOT like nick himself when he goes to a higher octave. seems like the most likely choice...

Further Seems Forever – Light Up Ahead Lyrics 20 years ago
To me, Sense Field had all of Jon's cliched lyrics and none of FSF's *fucking amazing* music. When I listened to their album, nothing reached out and struck me as profound, or even the slightest original or creative. FSF's music has always inspired me and touched me, and Chris's lyrics and Jason's passion complimented that. But Jon has neither the lyrics or the passion to support such great music.

Dredg – Penguins In The Desert Lyrics 20 years ago
yes aje742, they would die. that's kind of the point. Our cultural path away from the tribal societies we came from will lead to our extinction. This is a good example of Daniel Quinn's theories. You should read Ishmael.

Further Seems Forever – Light Up Ahead Lyrics 20 years ago
I like Jon's voice a whole lot, but his lyrics *blow*. I've never heard more cliche's in one album. The music is incredible, and has always been the driving force for FSF. Chris had brilliant lyrics (there was more originality and feeling in 'Snowbirds and Townies' chorus than this whole album), but the band's music has always been what set them apart from the rest of the vast sea of cookie cutter emo. The music is still good, but Jon is one of the worst lyricists I've ever heard.

Acid Bath – Scream Of The Butterfly Lyrics 21 years ago
In resonse to Muzzy, I'm pretty sure that it's an acoustic guitar plucked hard just in front of the bridge. Many guitarists use this to simulate a more tinny twang, such as a mandolin or sitar.

Deftones – One Weak Lyrics 21 years ago
in my opinion, it's obviously aboutanti-abortion issues, possibly dealing with an incident that was close to home, or even pro-life in general. It's also entirely possible that spirituality plays a role in that,

but that's just my opinion.

Modest Mouse – Bukowski Lyrics 21 years ago
Exactly, Shmave... How do people get so worked up over Modest Mouse lyrics anyway?

The song means that "God" is a meddling bastard, and that everyone knows that, I mean even if you worship "God", you still gotta realize that he/she is, for lack of a better word, a control freak. Thus explains why he refers to Bukowski

Sparta – Air Lyrics 22 years ago
I can't believe some of the people the 'emo genre' invites. Quit classifying it and let it go as GOOD MUSIC. And it shocks me how many people want to deny these hardworking musicians success. Do you support these bands you love so much at all? Just because more than fifty people like their music, doesn't make it bad music. You guys need to grow up and realize that commercial success does not in any way diminish talent. If they come out with an album you don't like, then maybe they are evolving as musicians and some of you apes can't respect that. Best luck to Sparta. They've created a splash and I've heard a lot of good things going around in the press about them. I've got their album and demo and love them both. ATD-I was great too, but they needed to go seperate ways. Don't question that, just respect the musicians enough to make their own decisions about their paths, lives and music.

The Starting Line – Cheek To Cheek Lyrics 23 years ago
Actually emo has been linked to punk since the mid 80's. Rites of Spring are usually referred to as "The first emo band", although no one can really attribute the birth of a genre to one band. Rites of Spring birthed out of D.C.'s dying punk scene in 1984 with members from The Untouchables/Faith and Deadline. I don't think emo is specific genre of music. I think it is more along the lines of subject matter, feelings and emotion. I've heard hardcore, punk, alternative and even country and r&b bands come out with songs that could be labeled "emo", but I agree with negatyve that you can't attach the name to every pop/punk band that puts out a song about a girl. But, for a long time before saves the day came out, emo has been associated with punk music and has every right to be. Today many emo bands such as finch and thursday and further seems forever have blended punk styles with more melodic and emotional qualities. To me there is nothing wrong with it, in fact they usually make great records. Emo is more than music, it is a state of mind, a way of living an outlet for emotions. As Time magazine states in their May 27, 2002 issue '...Adolescents can be divided into two groups, those who pretend to feel nothing, and those who aspire to feel everything...'

Further Seems Forever – February Tide Lyrics 23 years ago
let me settle this. this is indeed not further seems forever. chris carrabba may not be fsf's vocalist anymore, but they have not put out an full length album since he left. the only post carrabba releases are on the weezer tribute (say it ain't so cover) and the punk goes pop collection where they cover n'sync's bye bye bye. all of this information can be confirmed @ http://www.furtherseemsforever.com/history.cfm
it is still a good song, but i'd like to know who actually performs it. it is on kazaa and audiogalaxy as fsf but i'm sorry, it isn't them.

Finch – Post Script Lyrics 23 years ago
So what exactly makes a band a sell out or mainstream?Popularity? Money? I think it's when a band changes they're music based purely on what a corporate producer tells them so they can sell albums. As far as Finch goes, I love them, I hope the best for them. But if they start making a whole shitload of money and they're all over MTV, MORE POWER TO THEM. As long as their music stays passionate and emotional, they are the same band. But please don't wish them bad. They deserve to succeed.

The Starting Line – Cheek To Cheek Lyrics 23 years ago
Why is everybody bashing one another? You are all obviously fans of the same music. If someone gets something out of it that you don't, that's no reason to hate them. Spend your energy on something else, like playing music. Music should bring people together. So what if Deli Boy started listening to TSL a week ago? That gives you no right to condescend him. I'm sure TSL are very proud of their knew album and I don't think anyone can know how hard they worked0on it. So if you're such a TSL fan, why would you want to talk shit about one of their fans just because he hasn't listened to them for three years. Everyone has to start somewhere. Chill out, listen to some good emo, x-up or smoke a joint. it doesn't matter because if there is one thing that can bring people together, it's music.

This song is pretty self-explanatory. Fuck Limp Bizkit, fuck Brittany Spears, fuck N'Sync, fuck corporate music, fuck unoriginal bastards, fuck people who have stripped emotion and meaning out of music.
