This is one of the best songs Ben Folds has done, solo or with Ben Folds Five. It's extremely well done, both lyrically and musically. And the lyrics are so heartfelt and touching. "Fred gets his paints out and goes to the basement Projecting some slides onto a plain white Canvas and traces it, Fills in the spaces He turns off the slides, and it doesn't look right " Everytime I hear that part I almost want to cry. |

The first comment pretty well hit this one on the head. The song is about how everything in society from the time we're young children is trying to brainwash you to buy into their truths. As with many of Justin's solo songs it has a touching moment near the end when the kid in the song finally opens his eyes to what was happening, even if it was too late for him. No matter how great this song is, don't go around singing the chorus out loud. It can really cause problems, I know this from experience. |

I think the meaning of this song is pretty clear. It's about kids and even Justin himself finding a place in the punk scene and a place to belong. I'm sure many kids can relate to this, because for many of us our entry into the punk scene was similar to the stories he tells. I myself can really relate to the third verse. That one really touches me because it's so close to what i felt. |

I didn't read everything else posted, just scanned. So I apoligize if I repeat stuff here. The a.k. reference could go either way I think. It could mean AK-47 and saying that he had such a good day that he didn't have to kill anyone. But personally I feel it's the "also known" meaning. Saying that the day was so good that he didn't have to hide behind another identity. He didn't have to put on a fake smile and pretend he was happy as he often does. Instead on this particular day he was actually happy and could smile for real. That's just my opinon, I could be wrong. Also the title is the "Konami Code". It worked in nearly every Konami game made on any system. |
