they've interviewed a.c. about these lyrics. he said something about 'spanish techno' in conversation with a friend and she said "sing me spanish techno!" he then proceeded to say the rest of the lyrics are pretty much meaningless. gotta love that. |

very underrated song, in fact it may be my favorite by them. I definitely agree with Frappi and what he said about those two quoted lyrics. 'meal tickets' seem to refer to worn-out excuses, kind of like 'free passes' from the spouse in this case to get out of arguments, etc. it's really a well-written song, lyrically and definitely musically. |

I think that others just don't understand the pain he goes through and the depression that he's entered. That's pretty clearly stated, and he also repeats "there you are, watching..." and then goodbye which basically means that others will feel the pain he has felt. kind of like saying "you've ignored me for this long now let's see how you enjoy these feelings." what a powerful song... |

i heard it like five-six times on the radio yesterday. (!) the song itself has a great sound, like it could've been from an earlier album, but drags on a little at times. |

Not enough people realize how truly wonderful this song is. my favorite would have to be "air shaft a chasm their lives flung open, sickness is a time for hating your neighbors." |

yeah i know how are people seemingly not aware of this album?? it's still as good as when i first stole it from my brother like three years back, and I can't say that about many albums. oh and there's something strangely soothing about the length of this song. it's only like 1:35 or so, and initially you wish it was longer, and then you listen again and realize it is just right. ...sigh... |

have most people not heard the album building? Because about all of the songs (save "Building", since it was on a comp or two) have no comments. Intriguing, but anyway, this is one of the best and most energetic tracks on it. love it! |

this is such a fun song. all about how a phone call could change things, but apathy has set in and it is great. everyone gets that feeling that if they get something out of the way that life would be a lot easier, but they'd rather sit around and scratch their ass for a while. why? just because |

everything about this song rocks. and one thing i can honestly say about DP is that its almost impossible to directly compare them with anyone. also the songwriting style is different, these lyrics seem conversational, almost. |

maybe the last verse refers to the parents freaking out with guilt over the abuse that they had done to their children. i dunno, just trying to offer something for the last verse, everything else was pretty much said. oh well peace |

Wow, no comments. i think this is one of braid's best songs and i love the quick changes in mood and intensity. this song is well written and i love the way bob writes the words to fit the music, not the other way around. this one just seems to me to be about people needing to lighten up and that stupid fights between friends are pointless, i dunno. oh well, great song. HM is a different band, they are not intended to sound like Braid, since they are a d i f f e r e n t b a n d. anyway, i really cannot define what this song means, i just think it pertains to live performances, and what they do in front of crowds, and the exhilaration of it all. oh yes and "your stupid", "no lifes" and other convoluted ramblings...LessThanMe, you're making our generation look like a bunch of uneducated saps, go live under a rock and stop ruining comment threads of good bands' songs. thanks |

actually, "understanding in a car crash" was positioned by victory as the band's first single. most of the up-and-coming radio shows played this song way back about four or five months ago. it was another example of victory records doing shit whether or not the band liked it or not. either way "full collapse" and "waiting" are great cds worth a daily listen. well, since this is about song meanings, i agree with whoever put that it's about the state of the world today. i have heard it on the radio though and the splices in the radio edit take out a lot of the song's progression (including the vocals at the end). i guess no one wants to put screaming on the radio, oh well. peace! |

goalgirl997: yeah if you haven't heard any of HM's songs before it would be tough to get into their show. but buy the four song EP and i'd say the best song is "what you're up against". i must say hearing them open with "bells" is quite invigorating, though. peace |

Yeah, it seems like a friend is lost into a world of shallow people and materialism, and his return is longed for. the application of the lyrics to the situation with mendel and the two bands could work, since sdre definitely has more substance despite the fact that they have not been as commercially successful as the foo fighters. |
