I swear when he says "a calculated" it sounds like ejaculated. Not that Thrice would put that in one of their songs, but just consider it next time you hear it. |

i like how he says blooming like winter, and the entire concept behind it anyway. like he's saying the opposite. SC lyrics are always so poetic. |

Chris Broach wrote this song about his six year old son. He felt he couldn't give his son everything he wanted to give him. "I wish I had more to leave you". The last few lines explain it all though, that Chris will be there for his son throughout the years and offer him advice. The verse where he talks about being said still confuses me though. I think his wifes name is Amy, and maybe they got divorced. I don't really know, but I do know this is about his son. |

I've seen Hey Mercedes three times in concert, and all three times was before I got the CD, and they decided to play 3 times in one year around where I live. I was lucky, but I wish I knew the songs better when i saw them because they are amazing live, and the whole crowd sang along. This is such an upbeat song, regardless of its meaning being kind of a downer. Just had to say, this band is phenominal and the drummer is amazing as well. |

this song is really beautiful, and her voice is too. it reminds me of billy holiday, too, so dont worry, you're not the only one who thinks this. it's very classical, and i love it. we need more singers with her kind of talent and puriness. for some reason, when i heard the second "my heart is drenched in wine" it sounded like drenched in blood. i guess not...but either way, i love the lyrics, and i love the song. i hope she gets somewhere far. |

the song is about feeling like theres no way out. "i sure as hell can't do it by myself", shows a want to get this over with. then "my mother says to get a job, but she dont like the one shes got" is about hating the scheduled life society has been brought to, living a life we hate, just because its what we think is normal. |

I really like these lyrics, and i love the melody of the song. it starts off so melancholy, but the chorus is so different. the only thing i dont like about it is they use "woman in the street pulling out their hair." because live uses these lyrics in "overcome". |

I love this song, and not only the lyrics, but the melody is great, also. i think the meaning is pretty straight forward, and i agree with kingdg3 about industrialization moving two people apart. "is it already a quarter to ten, can i drag my body from this bed again..." may not be about the relationship, but the desire for life to be more than a routine, and being sick of working day after day. living such a life naturally tears relationships apart, if they are going in seperate directions in life. |

Very good points, and i have always loved this song for its beauty and romance, yet being so morbid at the same time. it reminds me of the thrice song "in years to come". the message is opposite, but just using such in depth lyrics to explain pure emotions...makes the song that much more beautiful. i've felt this way before, feeling such a deep love for someone, but after all they have done to you, it just feels like they have taken advantage of how strongly you feel for them. it is vulnerablity, you are right youwantedahero. |

I'm surprised more people haven't written. I really like this song, because the lyrics are very close to home. it could be about a relationship, but to me, it was getting out of depression. the ups and downs of getting better, the certain people you dont want to end up like, and the feeling of not being good enough for anyone because you're sad and being brought down. |

I think my main reason for not classifying her, or this song, as punk, is the lyrics. Though the sound isn't what i'd refer to as punk, i think lyrics bring out the meaning of punk, anyway. they are good lyrics, just not deep enough. i guess i would put the band, thrice, in the genre punk, and their lyrics are so in depth, it amazes me. i guess i was expecting a bit more with this. and as for her appearance, well, i've already posted on that. |

well... i have to say a bit about the whole punk not selling mainstream part. i do agree, because its hard to keep that state of mind after getting all the glory of being a star. i'm going to get my ass kicked for this, but i dont think any bands in mainstream that project a punk image are truly punk. this is just my opinion, but NFG, Blink, Good Charlotte, Sum 41, and all those bands that are pretty big, arent really punk in my eyes. dont get me wrong, i still listen to their music. i have been to some of their shows even. i just dont think they are punk, because when writing lyrics, (as a good band, thursday, once said), it is easier to write about true feelings before you get into the glitter of being famous. once in, its hard to write what you once felt, so naturally the music changes. some call it selling out, others call it buying in... |

okay, you just made yourself look like a jackass to me. you didnt make me feel inferier at all. but thanks, its about time someone disagreed with me, i wanted some debate. i still dont quite understand what your trying to say with the whole not being punk rock and stuff. she labelled herself. simple as that. the fakeness i see in mainstream music really discusts me. i love underground music so much better, so it doesnt end up this way. i like that the only reason i know what the bands i like look like is from me going to their shows, because (as u can see), im against the music business being all about looks. not like that is going to change, but i just hate that everything this song stands for contridicts itself in what she does. |

i really dont understand these lyrics. they confuse me, because i can think of about a million things that they could be. which actually makes it interesting, and i love that about thrice. i love this song, its very different, but i'm still checking to see if there is a definite meaning that anyone has posted, cuz its confusing me. |

i think, from the reference to red, white, and blue, it almost seems like it has to be about america. when truly listening, i feel like it must be about war. and thrice kicks so much ass that it must be more complex. i havent gotten it completely figured out and all...i guess thats why i came to SONG MEANINGS to check out the...song meanings...and to write what i think. just thought i'd throw that in there and give more shit to CMESOEMO |

I love this song, the lyrics are very real, and i admire that. I just don't get how she is so into not being fake, when look at her. she obviously cares about her looks, or she wouldn't dress all punk. her songs are about punk, and she dresses it, but the sound isn't punk at all. and for those of you who say girls cant sing punk, ur a dumbass, because bands like tsunami bomb pull it off quite well. i loved the song when i first heard it, but didn't understand what she was trying to say with her image. she labeled herself. opposite of a true punk. punk to me is rebellion, a state of mind, and its hard for me to take her seriously with what she has labelled herself as. dont get me wrong, her lyrics are good, i just have trouble buying what shes trying to advertise about herself. she wouldnt have made it this far if she was ugly, i can tell you that much, and thats really ridiculous. she hasnt even finished her cd, and shes gotten this far. it makes me think that without the blood sweat and tears of the process, shes skipped a valuable part of becoming a great artist. she has gotten it handed to her, because shes beautiful. its sick. |

This song has a deep and different meaning to it, and I admire Thrice for their intelligence and unique lyrics. I take it as being about suicide, though i understand that there are different interpritations that perfectly fit the song. That is the beauty of music, that it fits everyones emotions, the way they feel when they hear the song. It may change from person to person, but if everyone thought the same, how boring would that be? i have to say, I'm pretty sure it isn't a religious song for the most part, because Thrice is not a Christian band. That isn't just opinion, check their website, it is stated. If you see it as being about relationships, love, God, or anything else remotely relevant, then okay. Thrice's songs are complex that way, to make them all the more amazing to listen to. |
