| Bright Eyes – A Poetic Retelling of an Unfortunate Seduction Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i wrote an english paper about this song :-) dorky, I know... but I think, here, especially, Oberst proves that he would have made a better poet than songwriter. It's kind of sad that we're a generation that doesn't recognize up and coming writers and poets - so Oberst uses music as a vehicle of communicating his work. That's why I always have said Bright Eyes is an aquired taste -- you're not going to love them for their outstanding musical talent -- but once you listen to those lyrics.... man. You're hooked. | |

| yes, yes everyone out there. we KNOW that this song connects to ALL of you personally. it just "hits home" for about 99% of all population. but do us a favor and keep your personal life off this board -- it takes up meaningless space. Not just talking to you, "Aisu"... while I really am sorry, because that sucks. But we've all been there. And this board isn't for discussing your life problems-- even if this song is your "personal life story", please spare us the details. | |

well, duh. that's why he calls himself VACANTjosh (haha, sorry man. there is love) ANYWAYS. on the Onelinedrawing page, i thought there was a really important comment, so i'm going to copy it to this page! : by emochris on 05-21-2002 @ 06:13PM As Jonah said, it sounds like a sad song, but it isn't, because of the last line. such inspiration. "you're through all that, you've just begun"... one of those lines that after you've had a bad day, you can just pop on this song. and it depresses you for about the first 3 minutes of the song, haha... but then the last line just kind of lifts you up. i think it's one of the best off "Thriller" BUT THEY'RE ALL SO GOOD!!! can hardly choose. |

::GIGGLE:: *squeak!* sorry, sweetheart... all that means is that your stupid boyfriend didn't have anything clever or creative to say when he broke up with you. it's kind of lame to use a line from a song when you're breaking up with someone... especially this song which is quite possibly the most impersonal song in the world because everyone can "relate to it." so, "punkgirl" (as you call yourself)... go out and get some real punk music... *SoCo* hardly qualifies... |

Ok... I know we're about 5693 posts past this because this song gets somewhere around 15,000 hits everyday... but I wanted to comment on xnjbrokenheartedx’s little outbursts of truth because I am privileged enough to know him personally ;-) (He really is a very good person in his defense. I’m not really sure I would call him an “angry kid” ) To those of you who are just becoming offended by the reality of which he speaks, look a little bit harder at what he's trying to say. He's not just bashing the song "Konstantine" which you all hold so dear to your "little emo hearts" anymore. it's gone far beyond that. it's about being your own person. and not being your "own person" cause it's the cool thing to do, either. (I know it sounds strange the way I said it, but there are people out their who are so focused on becoming an "individual" that they actually become more of a follower than ever before. like that stupid seventeen magazine… I’m appalled) I mean, I know that he's probably going to kick me when I say that I do like this song. BUT at the same time, I'm not going to pretend I don't like it for the sake of saving face with him. Understand, children? Because that would be compromising my individual tastes for the sake of doing what was popular. (With him at least) And I could also back up my statement of liking this song with valid reasons as to why I do. (While I will agree with NJ that this guy's voice is bad to say the very least. I could never listen to this song over and over again) And I will also tell you that neither him nor I stop listening to music once it "hits mainstream" as most people would say. Dashboard Confessional: we've been, and have remained, loyal fans... long before his music video or MTV Unplugged. (And while we're on that can I just say that I think that music videos are completely irrelevant to music? the music should speak for itself. the music video is just a cleverly put together brainwashing contraption for luring teenagers into buying music? it's a load or horse poop) And we will both agree that Jimmy Eat World is one of our favorite bands. I know that Clarity (yes kiddies... they had albums released before their video of “The Middle” got retired on TRL) is the best album I own and I'll stand by that no matter where they go. Even though they've hit it big and I've seen them appear in J-14, (sorry man, I know it hurts) I'll be a lifelong Jimmy Eat World fan. It's not about being totally underground or listening to music no one's heard of. Because right there are two examples of quality music that unfortunately IS played on MTV to be misinterpreted around the world. But the point is that WE understand the music. We’re not brainwashed by it. It's about listening to what you want because you sincerely enjoy, understand and find meaning in it. I will tell you from the bottom of my heart that music can be your best friend. I know I'd be nowhere without Clarity. You've got to look hard for the really good stuff because it's all hidden under our superficial pop culture. But when you dig up something good, you could be opening a whole new window to your life. For me, I discovered Pedro the Lion when I was looking through songs haphazardly on the internet. (Discovered Penfold while listening to a random mix. Appleseed Cast by looking on the internet as well.) I listened to David Bazaan and his incredible lyrics. (So simple, yet so true and beautiful) I remember feeling like he was sitting there having a conversation with me. I fell in love. To this day, Pedro the Lion is one of my favorite artists... because I took the time to search for some really good quality music... and I found it. And let me just tell you that when xnjbrokenheartedx tells you he listens to the most meaningful and emotional music, he's not kidding. He's introduced me to some of the best bands I've come across. So if you're interested, I'm sure he'd be just tickled to do the same for you. *sorry if I’m putting you on the spot, hehe* put it this way: "you were born an original. don't die a copy" oh yea... and to the rest of you who don't understand what i'm trying desparately to get through your thick heads: "it's all been americanized that's all. you lead your life pretending that you're not found dead yet" i think you all should pretty much get the gist of what i'm trying to say. but then again, i'm not sure i should really really put it past you.($5 to anyone who can name that song without looking it up on the internet) |

| Elliott – Drive on to Me Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| yea... but i don't understand how this song can put a smile on your face... this song mesmorizes me and i feel like i enter a different world when i listen to it. all of elliott's songs do that to me. but a smile? i'm not so sure it's such a happy song. i can't REALLY figure out the whole entire meaning of the song... but it doesn't seem happy when i look at the lyrics. and i just don't see how it compares to "we're at the top of the world... you and i, we've got a lot of time and it sure feels right cause you reached in your pocket and pulled out a pass that says you can take me anywhere..." blah blah, haha. i don't know... top of the world is such a bouncy, corny song!!! (haha... but juliana theory is pretty good) i don't think that that song can touch this beautifully orchestrated piece of art. (not that you were saying it could... i'm just saying it can't) | |
| Elliott – Calvary Song Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
god... when he sings "laced with light, all divine" it sends shivers down my spine. his voice is so moving... even haunting sometimes. but it's SO AMAZING!!! elliott is such a great band. if there's one word i could use to describe their music, it's passionate. they don't fit into any category... their music is just so unique. this song is about people fighting for something that they believe in so deeply. I love it... i think it's the best off their new album with maybe the exception of Drive on to Me... but all the songs are so amazing i can hardly decide |

| Onelinedrawing – Crush On Everyone Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
hey guys, think about the title: "crush on everyone" he wants love so badly... that he's talking to everyone who he might be compatable with. it's like, a love song for no one. he's just calling out to everyone for a chance at love "or if you're just as scared as me if that's what it's about please let me find out" i think that pretty much sums it up. he's afraid to take a chance cause he's been hurt before... but he's asking other people if maybe they will take a chance on him |
|
| Jimmy Eat World – The Middle Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| oh, that was supposed to offend me? i'm sorry... the only thing i have to say in my defense is that i don't have one thing against jimmy eat world... they're by far my favorite band. i'm against people who misinterpret their music and think that the middle, bleed american and sweetness are their best songs just because they're overplayed and have been forced onto people's playlists by mtv and radio stations all over the country. | |

| The Juliana Theory – Is Patience Still Waiting? Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
will everyone please do me a HUGE favor and stop calling The Juliana Theory a CHRISTIAN BAND?! just because a couple of songs mention God and what not doesn't make them a Christian Band. They write from life's experiences. And for some people, those experiences include God. Juliana Theory doesn't preach about religion. If you want a Christian Band, check out STEPHEN SPEAKS "I can't walk on water with these dirty feet. But he can walk on water and he'll carry me." That's a Christian band for you. The reason why I don't like calling Juliana Theory a Christian Band is because once they are labeled like that... EVERY song has to take on an interpretation relating to God. And Juliana Theory isn't that that kind of band. |
|
| Jimmy Eat World – Ten Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
the way i saw it was that he was talking to someone else who ALSO had a substance abuse problem. but hey, that's just the way i see it. one of the things that makes Clarity the best album I own is that you can take all of the songs almost any way you want. The lyrics are open-ended like that. But why don't you tell me THIS TwoScoops: how do you see "We need Poison sometimes, so take another drink with me" or "I can't bring myself to say it's my own advice I need. Nowhere and then nowhere. Living trapped inside the chase" as parts of a song about relationships? I guess i can see the whole relationship thing. But can't you just open up your mind for a second and realize that this song COULD be about addiction as well? Maybe it's about both... I mean, isn't it possible to be addicted to people as well? But anyways, that was part of my point... that Jimmy Eat World doesn't just write songs about relationships. I mean... they're not Dashboard Confessional. |

| Jimmy Eat World – The Middle Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
ok... i guess i understand what you're saying. tell me again if i'm wrong. but is this what you're trying to say? lots of people think that Jimmy Eat World is EMO so they listen to them because emo is "in"? (ouch, that hurts) i mean... i see that happening all over. "hey... do you know any emo bands?!" "sure... check out jimmy eat world!" "oh my god! they RAWK!" haha... yea, i know people who do that. I... MYSELF... would consider Jimmy Eat World emo... specifically because of Clarity... but I personally don't like to get wrapped up in labels... so Pop Rock, Emo? what does it matter? Jimmy Eat World is one of the best bands there ever was. And that's all i'm basing what i listen to around... the quality of the music... not the labels. But seriously... props to everyone who has a mind of their own and can listen to music that hasn't been pre-approved by Carson first (he's so DREAMY! ::gag:: kidding) |

| Pedro the Lion – Options Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
this song... so hard to explain. so hard to explain ANY of his music. maybe i'm being over analyitical when i say this, but i think that "No one ever says what they really mean to say when there's so much at stake. so i told her i loved her." I mean, it's almost like saying that there's no risk in love! which is what the song is about. love has become a "safe" emotion... one where everyone is free to escape (through divorce) but is that really such a good thing? sometimes people need risk. many people might interpret this song as another one of bazan's "christian" songs... because of the whole stance it takes on divorce. but at the same time... i really think the song is more about the value of love... and how that has diminished through all the changes society has undergone over the years. and might i just add that while everyone seems to think pedro the lion is a "christian band"... they (or david, i don't know who does it) don't even thank God on their records? Not to say that Pedro doesn't have any songs based around religion... I don't know... i just think that's kind of interesting. |

| Jimmy Eat World – The Middle Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| :( that hurts that people think that Jimmy Eat World only writes music about break ups. I mean, sure, Jimmy DOES have the occasionaly break up or relationship song... as does any band. But they have SO many songs that go beyond that. Like... "Just Watch the Fireworks" and "Ten"... there are others as well. I hate the fact that just because z100 and mtv decided to start playing Jimmy Eat World, they have become a "Pop Rock Band." They are definitely nondeserving of that title. A little exposure doesn't totally change a band's music, despite what some people may think. Clarity is the best album I own! and Bleed American is great also. Just because they release songs like "The Middle" doesn't mean that that is what their whole sound is like. I mean, if you think Jimmy Eat World (i'm sorry... I refuse to call them JEW) makes poppy music... go and actually sit down and listen to their music. Think about the lyrics... they're brilliant and gorgeous. Most of the superficial girls out there probably won't understand them. That's why everyone likes "The Middle"!!! cause it's so straightforward, haha... it doesn't confuse people or... GOD FORBID force them to think. but... i still like the song. it's just not their best. | |

| Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
this is on behalf of aviad, one of the greatest queen fans of all time! :) OK to begin with, Mercury also said in an interview that it was a song about relationships, and he has revealed the true meaning to all 3 living Queen members, although they are somewhat reluctant to share it with the world at this time. My take on this is almost a religious one: The intro is born out of classical music. As far as lyrics go, they lay out the setting and hero for this story. This is somewhere between heaven and earth and its all happening to this one poor boy. Now we get the story. This man has killed a person, and now he has regret for it. He's dying on earth and needs forgiveness from life before he goes. Unfortunately, his mom doesn't give him his satisfaction and he ends up killing himself. An amazing guitar solo brings us to purgery. Here all the angels fight over this poor boy and where he should be sent. As stated before - Bismillah is In the Name of Allah...so basically it means - In the name of God no! we will not let you go...get the drift? Ok finally we come to beelzebub...uh oh the devil! Now we know where this boy spends eternity. Heavy metal guitar can only mean brimstone...haha. Now this guy tells us what he thinks of hell, purgery, life...everything! Obviously he doesn't like it - so you think you can spit in my eye? love me and leave me to die? He hasn't had quite the best experiences nor been dealt the best cards. So what does he do? He's getting out of here! Suddenly we hear some of the most regal sounding guitar in the interlude between. This is almost a call from heaven...the might face of god descending upon this poor soul. God judges him...and he's right back in hell. Seeing that the big man even rejects him, he looses all hope and faith in everything. Nothing matters. Any way the wind blows.... This is the basic story of a criminal going from life to death and all the stages after that. Of course I could be wrong...it could really have no meaning at all. One final interpretation is like Mercury said...it's a song about relationships. I'm not really sure what kind of relationships he meant, but I'm gonna go with romantic ones just for the hell of it. Suddenly in love - is this the real life? is this just fantasy? Once again laying out the setting, this time it can be looked at much more lightheartedly. As for the killed a man part...you got me there?!? But when he goes all suicidal...the relationships failing. In the opera section its the angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other...what on earth does this guy do? Love me and leave me to die? - I think hes kinda pissed. But then again...love is kind of a trap and he realizes he's stuck there. Life is only a second out of eternity...and so suddenly nothing really matters. i'm sorry on behalf of him for his rambling |

| Jimmy Eat World – The Middle Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
put it this way: if you don't know what "emo actually means", you shouldn't be listening to it. number two: if you are going to call the song "salt sweet sugar"... it proves that you have no knowledge whatsoever of this band. FIRST OF ALL the song is really called "Bleed American"... i would know that because i've had the album for about a year now. but then... they also retitled it "salt SWEAT sugar" please... people like you should crawl under a little rock... and stay there. "radios played it 'cos' people wanted to hear it." nope, SORRY... the radios force fed it to teeny bopper crazed teenagers until they accepted it as cool. sorry to shatter all your dreams to pieces. |
|
| Pedro the Lion – Slow and Steady Wins the Race Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
there are so many meanings to this song... at first, i thought this song was about how MISLEADING religion can be. i mean, i know that bazan writes a LOT of his songs from religious percpectives, but i thought that this song was actually talking about how religion is a false satisfaction. this guy takes the "narrow path" leaving his brother to die and feels that he will ultimately be rewarded regardlessly. the best line of this song that kind of supports that idea is: "i will trust my neigbors confident that they desreve to be there in heaven, too" but i am not a very religious person, so a lot of times i like to take his songs out of the box and look at them. overall, i really think that this song can represent society. particularly society in the 19th century with the social reforms after the French Revolution. There were all of these radical ideas being tossed around (ideas that TODAY are accepted). These people with radical ideas are represented by the brother which took the road less traveled and seemed to get lossed somewhere along the way. but, nonetheless, society (the narrator of the song) chose to ignore the radical points of view... thinking that no matter what, they would be the ones to prevail. i also think that this song represents that time period because people were still so focused on religious and it was people like Darwin and Locke that evoked some doubt in God. But still, some people are trying to stick to the Old Regime by believing in religion, classes, etc. and because of that, they think that they are destined to go to heaven. well, that's my two cents anyways... sorry if i rambled :) |

actually... I would like to DISagree with frkboy33. get "sticks and stones", listen to it... then get "nothing gold can stay" or even BETTER... "it's all about the girls ep". sorry... their sound has TOTALLY changed. I am a HUGE fan of *A* New Found Glory... but their stuff kind of went down hill after "from the screen to your stereo"... their s/t was decent... but nothing compared to "Nothing Gold Can Stay" can anyone else say "blink 182?" but anyways... this song is AWESOME... but (you guessed it) i am a much bigger fan of the original one rather than the one on their s/t. the beginning when jordan says, "LET'S GO!" get's me everytime :) |

| Finch – Letters To You Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
hmm... i've had this song for about a year and a half now... care to explain why all of a sudden they're becoming all popular? and... to people who have said "finch writes such deep lyrics!" all i have to say is this: I want you to know that I miss you I miss you so I want you to know that I miss you I miss you so please... anyone can write lyrics like that. want deep lyrics? you drive-thru "punk rock" kids probably wouldn't understand them. i'd like to know when the demise of drive - thru came about. they were good about 3 years ago. like A New Found Glory (and i stress the "A"). but i think we can all hold drive-thru responsible for the recent exploitation of punk. it's become so trendy :( |

| Pedro the Lion – Of Up and Coming Monarchs Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
i'm not completely sure... but it almost sounds like he is killing himself. i guess that it could be taken in different ways, as can basically any song. "sunken ships rest upon the ocean floor where i've made my home to dodge the draft once more." there's many references to war and "living" on the ocean floor. so i'm thinking perhaps he drowned himself to avoid fighting in the war because he didn't want to flee to canada. it's the only explanation i could get out of this song. often mr. bazaan leaves me in a quandary with his lyrics :\ if you agree or disagree... post, im or pm me... wanna know what you all think :) |

| Mineral – Slower Lyrics | 23 years ago |
|
one of the most underrated lines of this song: "It comes from denying that everything is so screwed up It's so screwed up" i just think everyone overlooks it because it doesn't really pop out at you like "It's just not the same when you're staring / Into a perfect golden sunset / And thinking about how you sold your soul / To send the rain away" does for example. but when he says "it's so screwed up" it ALMOST gives you hope in a weird way. because the whole song is about denial and about lying to yourself about things being bad. and when he says "it's so screwed up", it's like he's almost coming out of that denial and admitting that, "yea, things are screwed up and i can almost face that now" does that make sense to anyone else??? |
