I cant believe no-ones commented on this yet! it rules. such a beautiful song. i think faye wong would have sung it better but hey... nobuo uematsu is a genius! I've been obsessed with his work since i played ff7 and he just keeps getting better. hot on the heels of yasunori mitsuda(composer for chrono cross, again VERY beautiful music) uematsu is my main inspiration. too bad you cant buy this stuff in ireland (which is where im from and currently reside) i have to import it(which costs ALOT of money) or download it(which also costs ALOT of money coz i dont have broadband!) |

Why? why? why? why? why? does everything have to be about a relationship?! ROCK music is supposed to be hard, edgy and it should be able to kick the asses of any pop song any day. So why do you idiots keep coming in here and giving you're worthless meanings to these classic goo goo dolls songs?! If you want to write about songs about relationships go to the f***ing britney spears section! Anyway, this song is about wanting to get out of a certain place. Just like the title suggests. "hate this place" "You're my sweet charade" & "I think i love you but i aint sayin nothin you dont know" are references to the place were he lived. He didnt like it so he wanted to leave but every time he tried to, something was holding him back. possibly his love for the place that he didnt think he had. "I'm not messin with another life" - He isnt gonna start a new life somewhere else. "Can I get on without you" - Will he miss the place he's in? "Tell me lies you know I need" - He secretly doesn't want to leave so he wants the street to give him a reason to stay even if its just a "sweet charade" It all makes sense. No more relationship shite please! |

The references to drugs are all there. one more line - One more line of coke as I talk in circles round you on my bed - Repeating yourself constantly is a sign of drug abuse I don't think the relationship failed though. I think, matt was in the relationship, his girl told him he had to stop sniffin coke or she'll dump him. He tried but just couldn't do it "no longer running smooth" Then saying in the second verse that he isn't gonna beg her not to leave. "Its about time you got sick of me, I'm no longer fun" The cure for bein' old, is not the drug but his girlfriend. he THOUGHT he found a cure for being old(old meaning addicted in this song) but he didnt. Thats my take on it |

Basicly, Matt is an athiest. Not a satanist. This song is about matt putting faith in god only to realise it was boring. He wasn't raised with god, but obviously somewhere in his life he must have thought "I'll give it a try". Then, the "dark father" he refers to isn't SATAN or THE DEVIL or any other shit like that, He's just saying that the way he was before("being selfish, vulgar and lazy")was alot better and its always been there for him to go back to, "you were beneath me all the while" He didnt lose faith in god like so many idiots here think, he just realised that it wasn't for him. Read the lyrics carefully, stop and think about each line and you'll see that I'm right. |

This song (like all trio songs) requires you to really think about its meaning. This song is about, dan being tired with life, "i dont really care if I am healthy or not" and just looking to get on with it without thinking too much. "Clean my head up doc" although many people think its about a psychiatrist, its not. "Clean my head up doc" in this song represents the need to start over. Clean out his head and start new memories. This is one of my fave Alkaline Trio songs. And this album was alot better then "good mourning" |
