Natalie Imbruglia – Beauty On The Fire Lyrics 21 years ago
I always thought this song was Natalie wanting to cast away what society calls 'beautiful' and just be herself, be lost forever but be rid of society's constricting labels.

Natalie Imbruglia – Butterflies Lyrics 21 years ago
For some reason I always connected this song to nervousness and apprehension. It made me think of the phrase 'butterflies in your stomach'. What she's nervous about....no clue!

Wow...no comments here! I always got a strong feelingn that this song was about individuality. Dancing like no one was watching and all that.

Darren Hayes – Insatiable Lyrics 21 years ago
I love Darren but I've gotta say this...wasn't so good. It's a beautiful song, but I just can't stomach too many listens. I think Darren's writing was loads better when he was in Savage Garden...mybe it's something in the San Francisco water...but this is one of the better songs off Spin. Beautiful, but gets repedative.

Natalie Imbruglia – Come September Lyrics 21 years ago
I strongly agree with K40436c's opinion here. It's an awful summer, yet at the same time she knows she's got to do this. "Her violet skies will need to cry, cause if it doesn't rain then everything will die" is basically saying that there has to be some sort of difficulty, some hardship, and some tears for a relationship to work. It can't be good all the time.

Savage Garden – You Can Still Be Free Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is about an experience Daniel had when he was young (though, of course, Darren wrote the song). A couple was arguing at their house and the man ended up shooting himself in their backyard. For a long time after that the family would get the feeling that there was someone else in a room with them, and Daniel often saw the same bird. He made up the story that it was the man asking for forgiveness. And now we have this song. Later on, it came to also have meaning for the death of Darren's PA's father, who he always dedicated it to at shows (along with anyone who ever felt lost).

Savage Garden – The Best Thing Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is *wonderful* live (though I've only also seen it on the video!) It's a perfect opening song. It's full of life and energy and the guitars....very nice.

Savage Garden – Pushing Daisies Lyrics 21 years ago
I don't think this is a Savage Garden song...I've never heard of it (this is the girl who's been a fan since she was 9). And when I searched for it on Google, all I got were other singers. *cue twilight zone music*

Savage Garden – I Don't Know You Anymore Lyrics 21 years ago
I know this song started out being about Darren's ex wife, but I think over time it began to also hold true about the relationship he and Daniel had. At shows before/after they'd do this song, Darren would say "don't go", I didn't even realize that until they'd broken up (it just sounded like those little notes he does). That's one thing I love about it, it's gotten a new meaning after time's passed.

Savage Garden – Hold Me Lyrics 21 years ago
I always felt this song was about a moment in a relationship when you just don't care anymore. You're sick of always being first to take a stand and just want them to take charge for a while.

Savage Garden – Fire Inside The Man Lyrics 21 years ago
Funny nobody's written anything here, but this is a pretty straightforward song, as far as I can tell. It's about Darren's ex-wife Colby. Also, the only gender specific song he's written so far. (Don't know why I thought that was worthy of a mention...but hey!)

Savage Garden – Affirmation Lyrics 21 years ago
It's funny to see how many different ways a person can take the "sun should never set upon an arguement" line. I always thought it was more along the lines of, don't go to bed angry with someone, they might not be there the next morning. Another line I often hear a lot of different opinions about is "I believe that junkfood tastes so good because it's bad for you", some people I know take that at face value, but I think it's saying once someting's 'bad' or forbidden, it's instantly more attractive.

Savage Garden – Crash And Burn Lyrics 21 years ago
I remember Darren said once that the song was about his friends, the true ones he could call up at 3 am when his life was falling apart. It's him saying "Now I want to do that for you". It's a fantastic friendsong, generally. He also mentioned something about how he wanted this song to reach out to people who couldn't pick up a pen or an instrument or whatever and express themselves, but reached for guns insead. The video gets the message of "communicate anyway, anyhow" across beautifully, which isn't something you'd think about right away if you'd just listen to the song by itself.

Natalie Imbruglia – Hurricane Lyrics 21 years ago
To me, this song can be about nothing but love. That's the 'it'. Natalie really expresses what falling in love does to you, it can be a confusing thing that just comes up behind you before you have a moment to notice. Love is like a hurricane.

Natalie Imbruglia – Pigeons And Crumbs Lyrics 21 years ago
For some reason, I always got a feeling that this was about moving to, and feeling alone in a new city. Wandering around a park amongst the pigeons and crumbs.
