| Silverchair – The Greatest View Lyrics | 22 years ago |

ok this is so long... The Greatest View You're the analyst You've got the knowledge, you seem to know more about me than I do myself so do what you have to do. The fungus in my milk Fungi are some kind of bacteria I believe. What I do know is that milk is quite agressive against fungi and so a fungus is I think some kind of uninvited guest you don't want to have around. When you want no one And you got someone Proves my theory of the guest you would rather tell to beat it. I originally figured it was to do with having a bf/gf while you actually wanted to stay single. Through the wind you crawl And laugh at burning dunes When no one else will ever see You're the only one who sees it. It's in your own world, the world outside of the guest. It's apparently a place you feel safe and happy in as you move (crawling) and have positive emotions (laughing). It might be a description of a dream Daniel had, e.g. when the dr. drugged him with something. Now that you know why you feel like you do You've had the dream about the crawling and laughing. So outside of the real world you feel like you really do inside; away from the world you're happy. They're turning their head whilst they wait for no one People are doing something while doing nothing, not even waiting for someone. It doesn't say if they turn their head towards something/someone ("you"?) or if they turn their head AWAY instead. Do they want to help you, or do they pretend they've got better things to do like pretending to wait for someone. And finally I know why you feel like letting go So "I" understand the situation of "you". Looking forward to "the greatest view", "I" am overlooking the situation really well. "I" see what "you" are doing here on Earth, and looking back at the laughing/crawling world, "I" understand why "you" want to let go of this world and leave forever to the laughing/crawling world where everything looks better and brighter. I'm watching you watch over me And I've got the greatest view from here "I" have the greatest view, see above. "You" look back and know "I" am there for "you", and "you" know "I" know what "you" feel, that "you" are thinking of letting go to the better place, the dream world (I'm starting to think this song is about the struggle to stay/get out of a coma). Mistakes don't mean a thing If you don't regret them Especially this line has caught me. There is a basic truth in it, as we as humans don't have a stereotype behaviour some animals have. Stereotype behaviour means that there are "set schemes" to perform some kind of action, like a hedgehog which wants to defend itself ALWAYS rolls up into a ball, whether the "danger" is an animal about to eat or attack it, or a car which is about to overrun it. If you wouldn't regret your mistakes, you wouldn't learn of them and you wouldn't have learned the lesson that this action is not a good action but a mistake. So the relationship to the song is this; after this the song continues about making sure your toes don't suffer from frostbite or something. If you have already been in a bad situation and gotten out of that valley, make sure you don't fall in it again. This time you got over it, next time could be different. So pack your tactic toes for the winter Toes are specifically described as "tactic" here. Why that is, I'm not fully sure. In very cold winters it does happen that you have to wear some extra socks and more stuff to prevent your feet from freezing and --in a more severe form-- from frostbite. Maybe a "winter" is also a figure of speech here, for the aforementioned "valley" for example. At least the moral out of this is that you have to take precautions. Chain a waterfall to burned and withered skin Can you chain a waterfall to something? Yes, actually you can, but the waterfall has to be frozen (that exists, but rarely). Chaining a running waterfall is impossible. In both cases, though, the waterfall won't stay with the burned & withered skin. It'll either melt and go away, or it's already a liquid and it's gone before it arrived at the "wound". Thinking of my basic First Aid lessons, burned skin needs a lot of water, and a waterfall IS a lot of water. You just want to get rid of all the problems, pain, wounds, away from all the s*** like the waterfall wants to get away from the chains. All you just want to do despite of the "precautions" (see above), you want to get out of the valley as quick as possible and you need help; from the water - the water is there for you. |

a patient career of sleep in a sunday dress Having a "career of sleep" is not very surprising when you're sick. Basically you're not really feeling like changing clothes and stuff, and one thing you especially don't do is wearing your fancy clothes (sunday dress - people used to keep special expensive clothes for the sunday service in church). My experience is that you just walk around in the first thing you found in your closet, or (as a patient in a hospital) you're wearing one of those unisex dresses. |

'Bleach the green from the pastures, feast on the grey' I believe this is Daniel talking about his obession with love and death and his love of death. Sometimes people become so involved in their Depression that is how they like themselves.Taking the green from life and feasting on the grey you have created. |

| This lyric may have been from natalies point of view, to me hes saying that natalie came to daniel when she needed him when she had time for him, this lyric is anger she wasnt there when daniel needed her just when she needed daniel. So when it suited natalie when she could fit him in she arrived! | |

greatest veiw wasnt about the media it was about... Lyrically it is about people analysing your every move, after nb when he was really sick he had people looking over him all the time and making sure that he was alright. Although it was all coming from the right place and coming from there heart Daniel said that it came to point where he felt cage in by peoples analyse of him as a person, it’s a bout the feeling of constantly being watch over but once you learn to deal with that you ultimately have the greatest view |

World Upon Your Shoulders Half-full glasses lost in empty houses Remember all those personality tests? "Is the glass half-empty or half-full?" If you answered "half-full," that supposedly means you're optimistic. But then again, if you visualize houses as empty, you're supposed to be a bit on the anti-social side. I relate this lyric to Daniel's decision to focus on positive things (especially when he's writing songs). I think he was able to do so, in general. But maybe there were times when he found it hard to maintain that focus, hence "lost in empty houses." |

this is by far my favourite silverchair song, it is so close to home, i love it dearly its about being on anti-depressants. "bo and aropax" (aropax was the anti-d dan was on) play on words to - bo and arrow another play on words is And it's too tense, camp out (nonsense) two tents, camp out chris and ben used to camp allot and daniel wasnt into that, but i guess he felt left out. 'But it's all the same to me' i think the song is a story, and to its all the same to daniel because the anti-d's leveled it all out. no highs no lows - all the same |
