I pretty much agree with Madcappunk on the idea of nonconformity. It sounds to me, not abuse by parental figures, but abuse from the world. Like he is always beat down emotionally. He dosnt fit in ( as some of his songs suggest ). Basically he's talking about how sometimes the whole world seems against him. As he feels he fights alone with his awesome honesty and that heart on his sleeve. Like he is told to follow the herd... no deviation... no true individualism. He escapes this life by not conforming to society. And to him its like a hard physical beating. He will break out on his own and be proud, and deep down find a happiness inside that nothing... nothing and no one can take from him. Im sorry to reply so late as all of you have replied much earlier. AFI are new to me. I truly hope someone reads these comments i made, and critiques my opinion. How does my explanation sound? Anyone agree? Again, my opinion. Whats true beauty is that everyone takes this song their own way and pieces it as they see it inside each of their hearts. I believe dreams are just reality waiting to happen... but its so easy to lose sight of dreams when people you fight alone. |

like the offspring? im not sure.. i only have heard little from them ( the offspring). but i believe afi is 100% original. i mean, some metal bands sound like others, as in pop bands and country bands to same. no 2 bands are ever alike, though no matter how close they sound. there is always a flicker of their own originality. i mean in my eyes anyway. come to think of it, from what ive heard... afi sounds nothing like them in any way. but like you, its just MY opinion. i mean i come from bands like gwar, dee snider, kiss, manowar, kick axe, and honeymoon suite. AFI, to me, just like as in most bands, is so different in most ways. and davey's poetry he sings... is more amazing to me than probably anyother band! like the fan said in the interview on mtv... they sing stuff that he identifies with so strongly, and its so wonderful to actually find people who feel like he does. and me also. but again who knows... maybe you caught a good similarity in afi and offspring sound. later |

Hey guys, im new, and i wanted to say alot of you seem very kool! Sweet people exept when bashing each other which isnt afi material ( right guys?) Anyways, afi unites us together as one. I think your interpretations of girl's not grey ( my favorite afi song) are incredible and its so great to meet people who have thoughts like i do inside. "girl's..." means alot to me and i get my own out of it. How does this sound to you? The key is the "girl" in "girl's not grey". She is seeming weak and down (possibly) and goes into a world where nothing can hurt her almost like a fantasy world ( see when she touches her face in awe and exitement when she see's afi singing? I think it has a combination of dieng, maybe to escape the world and its horrors, and in the same way "dieing" as in escaping... on the inside... as when your bullied, or hurt badly by a break up and you can escape in a world where nothing hurts you, and the light, meaning true completion of your heart and soul, finally embraces you. My peeps..please tell me what you think? thankyou so much!!! |
