Ida Maria – Oh My God Lyrics 17 years ago
i am a red blooded male that understands this song...or at least he thinks he does.....
I dunno. I just cant help thinking there is a 'nevermind' slant. Even if it is totally unintentional! whatever it is....it sounds good.

In a townful of nothing to do'' is one of my favorite lines in any song ever.
Obvioulsy a song about under-acheivement and failure

Pearl Jam – Glorified G Lyrics 20 years ago
I know this isnt what the song is about. But I am an armed response cop. We always go out with 2 guns, A carbine and a pistol. So i sometimes chuckle to myself that this could be in some way about POLICE BRUTALITY. ''thats ok man caus I love God'' (In god we trust) I am british so I am sure its probably about American gun law but it still makes me laugh.

Counting Crows – Goodtime Lyrics 21 years ago
I intitially thought this song was about a guy (the gentleman caller) who was going (paying for) on a date with a call girl. It was this really empty first date thing with someone who could never love him but he still went to the effort (the blue suede shoes).
so he tries to come up with something that will make her like him and he just mesess it up.
But inside this call girl can kind of relate to him because her life is full of these little failures too.
she wants to tell him it will be ok, but holds back because she knows the futility of trying to comfort someone in rejection.
I think they begin to realise they have more in common than they ever thought they could.
I dont think they can ever be together but I think the guy takes consolation from the fact that hes not alone in being alone. Thats my take anyway.

Counting Crows – She Don't Want Nobody Near Lyrics 21 years ago
Is this song about feeling used by someone in a controling relationship?(the strings attatched-reference to being a puppet?) It seems like the girl in the song is let down by a lover 'I'm alright, I just cant get home tonight'.
In the end the relationship fails but she takes all that bitterness with her and ends up doing the same to others. In the end of the song shes the one thats letting everyone down because she is afraid of being hurt like she was hurt before.
Its kind of a song for the new millenium too. It is becoming more and more popular for people to live on their own now. mom and Dad and 2.4 kids is becoming a thing of the past.
Sometimes when your in a relationship you have to way up the pluses and minuses. Maybe sometimes your just better off on your own?

Counting Crows – August and Everything After (Live 12/03 Version) Lyrics 21 years ago
This song is so wonderful.
To me this seems to about the trappings of fame.
I think theres a few 'money cant buy you love' lines thrown in for good measure.
It seems to be a song about regret and the need for redemption.
There is an underlying feeling of desperation and resigning oneself to the fact that everyone gets older and sometimes that can be a pretty scary feeling.
At the end of the day with all the fame and fortune that the guy in the song bestows. It still boils down to him being a loneley guy who feels some of his friends have sold out and now maybe he's even questioning his own motivations.

Suzanne Vega – The Queen And The Soldier Lyrics 22 years ago
Great song. I know this is from a female's perspective but I can relate to it myself. This song is about fear of commitment. There are a lot of metaphors in there which are fairly obvious.
She falls in love with the guy but she is so scared of being hurt she decides to not to call him or see him anymore. The soldier did not die. but to her its easier to think of him as dead. That would take away the temptation of getting back in touch with man because she clearly loves him. I think its really nice how she uses the queen and the soldier metaphor and how love (sometimes) is such a battle.

Counting Crows – Chelsea Lyrics 22 years ago
To me this is about that..point of no return (stage) in a relationship where you know you/she moved on for the right reason(s) but you still spend most of your waking hours...just trying to come to terms with that and the only way you can really do that is to ..kind of feel sorry for yourself and just wallow for a while. "I never had light in my eyes anyway." i think the "Something about the buildings in Chelsea just kills me", might be about how, when if someone else can build something so lasting. why cant I? or maybe something happened in Chelsea with him and his ex...and it just cuts him up everytime he goes there beacause it was so nice...and he cant go back.

Counting Crows – Angels of the Silences Lyrics 22 years ago
ok. cant beleive only 1 other post before me. This song means so much. I know what it means to me it wont mean to you but.... to me this is about....when you are so tied up about someone you cant sleep at night 'Little angels hang above my head and read me like an open book
Suck my blood break my nerve offer me their arms '
you kind of know what you should do but.....you just dont have the bottle to do it....its about having the balls to cut the tie and move on! or at least thats what this song is for me. I am sure to Adam it might be a bit different.
