Primus – Eleven Lyrics 18 years ago
It's actually 11/8 time. This song is so obnoxious sounding when you play it alone on the bass... I love playing it.

Black Sabbath – Planet Caravan Lyrics 19 years ago
Wow having_a_blast2, that's one of the most relevant comments I've seen in my entire life. Congratulations on achieving a new level of idiocy.

Anyway, anyone out there that plays guitar or bass should get together with someone that plays the other and try just playing this song and improvising guitar solos and bass grooves. This is one of the most fun songs for improvisation ever, I can get with my guitar buddy and we can just play this song forever without getting tired of it... we'll seriously just play it for ten or fifteen minutes straight before moving on to something else. And if you think that listening to the song has a mellowing effect, you should try playing the bass part.

Michael Jackson – Billie Jean Lyrics 19 years ago
Funny, by what I heard when listening to the song I always thought that the first verse was after he and Billie Jean had already "danced on the floor in the round", and that the basic setting for that verse was that he was somewhere with someone else. I also though "schemes and plans" in that one verse was actually something about "her sweet semblance", but go figure. Anyway, awesome song, awesome artist. We're going to play this song at the school talent show this year, should be interesting.

Megadeth – Sweating Bullets Lyrics 20 years ago
It also has things that could be references to nuclear war... mutually assured destruction, mankind has got to know his limitations, the general theme of being paranoid and being ready to kill someone out of fear, etc.

Megadeth – Mechanix Lyrics 20 years ago
I haven't heard the Megadeth version of this song, but I just can't see these lyrics fitting with it for some reason, especially if it's faster.

And willst is want, from the verb wollen, not will, from the verb werden. It would be wirst if it was.

Metallica – Leper Messiah Lyrics 20 years ago
The first time I read the lyrics to this song I thought they were condemning Christianity and religion in general, now that I reread them, however, they seem to be talking solely about corrupt churches with corrupt ministers, and not condemning Christianity as a whole. I'm suddenly reminded of hearing a story about how sometime in the 80s there was a preacher saying that God told him he would die if he didn't get one million dollars from his church. Ozzy Osbourne then sent the preacher a gun.

And btw the prayer is a traditional Christian prayer, it's not just some prayer someone made up for a horror movie.

mb1604, it's been nearly a year since you asked that question, so I'm sure you've found the answer on your own by now, but I think the song you're talking about is Man in the Box by Alice in Chains.

Alice in Chains – Angry Chair Lyrics 20 years ago
I don't think beautiful is a good way to describe this song... more like infuriating and haunting... Alice in Chains were always good at conveying emotion in my opinion (that's why music is supposed to be there in the first place, but meh) and this one is true to it's title... This song just makes you want to hide in a corner and punch stuff...

Alice in Chains – Get Born Again Lyrics 20 years ago
Okay so no one else sees religious themes in this song? The name of the song is Get Born Again, if you don't recognize that phrase it basically means get saved, ask Jesus to be your savior, etc. I was seeing this song as one of two possible meanings, of course I was hearing some words incorrectly too. One idea I had was that it's a song about people that go to church but honestly couldn't give less of a crap about Jesus. My line of thought there was that I was hearing "Just to eat a couple lies" as 'Just repeat a couple lies', which led me to think that the lies in question were things like "I'm sorry for my sins" that one would say when praying for repentance. Of course, the line "Hope to wish away the lies" doesn't agree with that meaning very well...

The other thought I had was that the song is your run-of-the-mill "me no like God" song. That one seems more logical now that there have been some misconceptions cleared up in the words, though I don't agree with the message of the song if that is the case. If you look at the song as having that meaning, most of it kind of pops out as obvious, such as the line "I'll pretend you're still alive" obviously referring to Jesus being resurrected.

Anyway, I've thought about the meaning of this song a lot. A lot of AiC's mentions of God seem ambiguous (other than maybe God Am) and could easily go either for God or against. Take Man in the Box for example (even though the only reference to God is contained in four lines shoved in the chorus out of nowhere). "Jesus Christ, Deny your maker, He who tries, Will be wasted." This line obviously states that there is no reason to run from God or try to defy him, because if you do you will always lose. That song is also one of their older ones though, so I don't know, maybe something happened to them along the way.

And for the record, I'm a Christian. If the lyrics mean what I think they mean, I don't really agree with them, but as I've said they are in some ways ambiguous, and I've seen pictures in which someone (I think Layne) was wearing a cross necklace at a concert.

Seems to me like a song about Paranoia, how someone can create fears out of nothing and then the fears control them.

Yeah I always saw this as a song about war, not cocaine addiction, and the masses of graves on the cover just clicked. Like the Satan guy said, The government is pulling the strings in a war and leading the soldiers to death, just like they are their puppets.
