Oddly enough I would have agreed with that interpretation a few years ago, but it's not always true that change in a person is a good thing. I believe that the song refers to success which has gone to the "beautiful head" - what was once good enough is not anymore - because of an inflated sense of worth from something external. |

This is a great song but I prefer to think of it as a double-edged comment on the snobby attitude of indie music fans as well as plastic radio music(even though it probably isn't). It would pretty silly for Jeff Tweedy to comment unreservedly on the trashy nature of commercial music. Especially if you look back at the first Wilco album. |
