Sting – Fields of Gold Lyrics 21 years ago
I love this song. As time passes these common events in our lives, like ordinary Barley, sometimes become the ones we remember and cherish and find strength in. They become Gold- the color of the ripe barley harvest. There was sorrow but the enduring relationship overcame it. Children offer hope. They could be the couples. There was common stuff like betrayal but somehow they endured and time healed.

Santana – Everything's Coming Our Way Lyrics 21 years ago
As far as I know this is the only song Carlos S. has sung and released. So its special for that and for his acustic guitar work. I've worked out the music pretty well.
Thanks for the last verse- I never could get the first 2 lines- great job! Its a very positive song with a light feel even with all the minors.

Santana – I'll Be Waiting Lyrics 21 years ago
I love this song. There is a line wrong: "You are the light, the light and the way" not you are the lightn. Now, the light and the way refers to Christianity- "I am the light and the way", Jesus said. So it is about waiting for your god to come or wanting spiritual enlightenment or the peace that it brings. It is disguised in the desire for embrace of a loved one- this is a common metaphor. The love for a person is reverence or adoration. The solo is so fine on this very sensitive and lyrical yet it gets a real tight infectious groove by the end. The singing is really great. Its a lovely ballad and the only christian rock song I play.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – If 6 Was 9 Lyrics 21 years ago
If 6 was 9: It would be if the world was upside down. But I dont mind. This is a very american song. No group identity just me and mine. He is asserting and celebrating the self. An that time there were of course white collare conservatives, hippies and freaks. The freaks were total nonconformists alinging with no group and even hippies required conformity as a group. If 6 was 9 - if every foundation we have built this civilization on falls....

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Castles Made Of Sand Lyrics 21 years ago
IMPERMANANCE. The first verse is about a changing relationship. Love and acceptance is lost. The second is about plans for the future that go wrong. You build your life on a dream and live for that future but along the way it is snatched away. The third verse is about fate, the hand of god, and miracles that don't happen. Even when they should. Sooo- The universe is uncaring. Nothing is permanant and change is the only sure thing. The tone is dispassionate too. The last verse is especially potent: Hope, even for a brief instant is useless. Abandon hope. I think its beyond good and bad things that happen - things just happen. I agree about building on false truths (a break-up song?). But I think it goes beyond that and says there is no TRUTH in things or situations. All will change. Its very deep, compassioate but not sentimental. I think its very advanced philosphy.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – 1983 ... (A Merman I Should Turn to Be) Lyrics 21 years ago
This is about some of the people evolving or devolving away from warmaking. Vietnam was going full blast remember. I'll pick evolution and say that there is a parallel comparison warmaking to peaceloving and living on land and living in the sea. A different physiology is needed to breath. The point is saying goodbye to a wolrld that doesn't work for these people. "Oh say can you see is really such a mess"- thats the USA- the Star Spangled Banner of course. And these new hip instyle people have choosen to make a seperate peace and leave. And can you imagine anything more peaceful that living underwater at the bottom of the sea? The theme also remind me of Crosby Stills Nash "Wooden Ships". The sea has represented escape to freedom for a long time. The imagery is lush and music onomatopoetic. That he died drowning is spooky. I hope he found the sea.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – The Wind Cries Mary Lyrics 21 years ago
"The tiny island sags downstream" is probably that deflated sadness of loss and also that erogenous zone. He is not feeling very potent, at this time. A very sensitive metaphor.
Happyness staggers- drunk? Footsteps dressed in Red- No happyness is not drunk its stabbed and bleeding and thats why it staggers. This is particular because Red shoes are typically womens and happyness has been killed from loss of a woman. This guy is a total poet genius. The solo is great a sad lullaby but unmistakably hendrix.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Manic Depression Lyrics 21 years ago
I cant ant get no satisfaction. He cant get it on or get it up. The sweet cause in vain. Fruntrating, turn myself off (cant turn on). He wants to but cant- it happens and thats the manic part but not very clinically accurate.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Voodoo Child (Slight Return) Lyrics 21 years ago
"This is a song about Determination", said Hendrix at Montery or somplace. That's it - when I play this in my head during a long race or when I need some strength. The beat is a little slow for a race pace but I'd got me through a marathon. Its marching music. The guitar is freehanded all over the neck and very loud. It is also the penultimate blues song- of the braging blues man a strutting rooster singing crowing his name affirming his strength and power to all the hens. Or mabey a war dance. I might even raise a little sand- Yeah!

Bob Dylan – Like a Rolling Stone Lyrics 21 years ago
I find the tone troubling. It takes pleasure in this girls fall from grace or inocence. It not compassionate at all. There seems to be a pleasure in taking her as low as possible- making deals with the mystery tramp presumably for a little company or place to stay or protection. Its cruel epiloge to a loss of innocence with no hope or redemption. No idealism or beauty. Almost a curse of fortune upon someone yet to fall- "Now, How Does This Feel, Bitchl"? The Jimi Hendrix version is even more so when he adds: "Look at ya!"

Queen – Fat Bottomed Girls Lyrics 21 years ago
Love 'em! This is Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy! Loose and juicy and free as a heap big bottomed fanny. I love the feel. It's a celebration and an affirmation. It's the force that held his life together - the guy in the song that is.

Counting Crows – Mr. Jones Lyrics 21 years ago
Dark the 7th has got it. Its about desire and in this case for a woman. Self confidence (LION) and he thinks about the fame helping him out. MR. JONES is a Bob Dylan character too- "Ballad of the Thin Man" a disconnect of ones self- "...and you know something is happening but you dont know what is is. Do you Mr Jones?" Analyse that one for bonus points. Since it is sexual- the desire- the Penis thins is not completely invalid but its just a symbol for the desire. Self doubt and Ego are in conflict as many guys approachin women know its risky and you get rejected and it inhibits you. Picasson blue period "Girl With Guitar" is very abstract like how he is feeling- unable to get it together and act.

Counting Crows – Mr. Jones Lyrics 21 years ago
Mr. Jones is like ones self disconected. Like desire or what we wish we were - our ego. Mr. Jones is a guy in a Bob Dylan song Ballad of the Thin Man- 'And you know something is happening but you don't know what is is. Do you Mr. Jones?'- note the Dylan reference in this song. It takes a lot of courage (lion) to act on ones desires like striking up a conversation with a girl that might reject you- Has that ever happened guys? But if we were big stars they would be comming to us. The Picasso guitar painting is blue period and very abstract. There is basically a disconnect between the guy and his ego and he is conflicted and Mr. Jones is an externalizaton of his desire so here is the Penis part but it is not really about his penis its about his self-comfidence etc. Hows that?
