The first time I heard this song it was done by the Chieftains on their album of the same name. This is taken from the liner notes of the Chieftains album "Down the old plank road": "The first time I sang "The Long Black Veil" in a pub, the bartender asked me how I came to know such an "Irish" song. I didn't have the heart to tell him it was written and recorded in Nashville in 1959". It doesnt say who wrote it, but I thought that was interesting since I thought it was and Irish folk song. Anyway its a great song and a good cover by dave! |
