| Five Iron Frenzy – Ugly Day Lyrics

Blast! I had a whole reply written up and such, and apparantly it only put up the first part... lemme try to recreate it... "uh... yeah, torska, that's it. /sarcasm Anyway, from what I've heard, Reese was engaged (I guess her name was Christie, judging by the lyrics) and like the day before (that could have been an exaggeration by my friend) she called him up and said she never wanted to see him again. Ouch. Also, he also wrote another song about it called Independence Day for the Brave Saint Saturn side project. There might be another song or two about it, too tired to think right now, so, uh... yeah." |

This is referring to the Japanese pinball/slot machine hybrid-like game Pachinko. Deji Pachi is a variation of it, and I'm guessing Uchi Domi is like getting a 'Jackpot." Great, song btw. Uh... yeah. |

Just a side note, the "I hear they'll hang you upside down/ stretched across two boards/ for hearing distant voices/ and crossing to the Lord" refers to (I think) Peter again, who was crucified on a cross (two boards), but upside down, as he did not feel himself worthy to be upright like Jesus was. Great song, btw. I keep getting the chorus stuck in my head. Uh... yeah. |

Yeah, definitely. On the live CD, they mention that they sometimes practice at Micah's house which is only a few blocks from Columbine, and Micah's sister was one of the kids locked in the choir room. As Reese says, "I think the real problem is, mankind is dark, and without God, people do things like that." Uh... yeah. |

This song is about a kid who turns 16, and goes to a pharmacy to get condoms, but calling them "balloons," gets told to go to a toy shop, as he becomes more frustrated. Don't really like this song, but it's ok. uh... yeah. |

I love this song. About the only all-out ska song on their new CD, it also adds a bit more humor to it that's lacking (especially compared to their last one), at least in my opinion. Anyway, I'd have to say I like FIF a LOT more than RBF... I liked them more anyway, but recenlty at Warped Tour, I got to see them both. Unfortunately, I had to leave FIF early 'coz they overlapped them, and boy was I upset. Whereas FIF was all crazy like (especially Jeff), RBF was just kinda... I dunno, not that great, plus it was too packed to skank. Unfortunately, the crowd was kinda lame with FIF, although while I was there they didn't play much to dance to. Oh, and BTW, check out the Planet Smashers. great Canadish ska, was the most fun I had at Warped, hands down... 25 min. straight of skanking. uh... what was I talking about? Yeah. |

| Five Iron Frenzy – Handbook For The Sellout Lyrics
| 23 years ago

Feel free to get our the torches and pitchforks, but I'd have to say that when a band "sells out", it's when it betrays the fans in order to make more money. I mean, I have no problems with them making money (how else are they gonna support themselves?), or having lots of fans, it's the attitute they have about it. Blink182, for example. They watered down their music to essentially pop, simply for easier mass consumption to make more money, screwing their fans. On the other hand, take Less Than Jake. Their first couple of albums are standard (I love it, but it is) repetitive ska punk, but with Hello, Rockview (their best CD by far) and B&B, their style has changed quite a bit, and I would hardly call it selling out. This sellout mania kina of reminds me of the whole punk 'nonconformity' bit that usually just results in another kind of conformity, but I won't get into that right now... yeah. |

This is a great song. Although it is actually about big businesses (they mention Nike in the thank yous for it), it can also be taken for other meanings and applied to your life (like most Five Iron songs do, and all good songs should) :D Yeah. |

Man, I love Five Iron Frenzy... one minute doing some serious praise song, the next some random crazy thing just to have fun (sometimes at the same time, too)... I mean... "Pants: The Rock Opera"... that's hard to beat. Their new album was a bit more serious and not much ska, but it's all good. Anyway, this is one of my all time favorite songs, I'm not quite sure why :D. Yeah. |

| The Specials – A Message To You, Rudy Lyrics
| 23 years ago

Yeah, Rudy (or Rudi or Rudie, however you choose to spell it) does refer to "rude boys/girls." During the early ska (well, more to the rocksteady time at this point) years in Jamaica, there was a lot of unemployment, and as such many turned to a life of crime. Wearing suits and such, they were dubbed "rude boys." Later, when Jamaican ska became reggae, ska started up in the UK during the second wave, or "two-tone" era. They adopted the rude boy image with the suits and such, and checkered pattern to go a long with 'two-tone,' which also applied to their goals of racial equality. Heh, ok, I'll shut up now with the history lesson and go sleep or something... anyway, great song. And check out Rudi, What Happened To You? by the awesome ska band, Secret Agent 8. It pays homage to this and other two tone songs, plus it just rocks with layered horns and such. uh... yeah. |
