Ok, K4la, tell me this... If it's soooo obvious. The lyrics:
1."Not all martyrs see divinity, but at least you tried" Jesus did see divinity, this person did not.
2."Ranting and pointing his finger at everything but his heart" This implies hypocracy... a human trait.
3."You've claimed all this time that you would die for me. Why, then, are you so suprised to hear your own eulogy?" Jesus knew he would die, this person was suprised... suggesting perhaps an assasination.
Another point is that throughout this song present tense is used in reference to himelf, others, and this individual(s). Just my opinion... but it's certainly (like all of Maynards poetry) not obvious. |

I was disappointed in this. I have alawys considered Stranglehold to be one of the greatest classic rock songs ever, and Tool is my favorite modern band... so I was prepared to be floored by this. It isn't what "No Quarter" is in terms of intensity. In fact, it's more of a jam session than a cover... in that respect it's great, I wish I'd have been there. As far as Maynard changing the lyrics to No Quarter reverand chris, that was the idea bro. It's a reverse perspective from those waiting, not those coming... listen again my friend. |

When did this become a list of top guitarists? Hendirix at 10?!?! LMAO... get real kingpyro... you obviously don't play. Anyway, This is a great cover of a great song. Zeppelin's version was the genius, let us not forget. And I appriciate all of you that recognize that WITHOUT ZEP... THERE IS NO TOOL!!! I shudder to think of what music would be like if Zeppelin never existed. |

I also think all the different interpretations of this song is great... clearly not meant to be cut and dry. The comment that I'd like to make about this song is how it really showcases Maynard's exceptional voice. He uses his voice unlike anyone. He truly uses his voice as another creative instrument. |

There seems to be alot of different opinions on what this songs means. Any Tool or Perfect Circle fan knows that Maynard's intention is always to get us thinking as it is with any true artform. However, Maynard has said on many occasions, including live concerts and interviews, that this song is about sodomy. In his words: "What album would be complete without a song about sodomy?" This video is beautiful as well. |

This has always been one of my, favorite songs. Now it has an all new meaning to me... I recently separated from my wife. She cited the way I treated her in the past as her reason for leaving and she never told me sooner. She had an affair, and that's the only reason it came out into the open. Basically she moved on without me and left me far behind... all I did was live my life the way I'd known. Of course, it seems at times like these that every song I hear is speaking to me. |
