i thought it to be a couple fighting. kind of the end of a rope for both of them, the same thing that happens everytime. although i cant decide whether he is in the relationship, or he is watching another couple and relating it to his own experiences and creating more of a story for them based on the situation he is in, making it a back and forth thing. i guess if it's the latter, it would be more like watching the parents fighting.
at any rate, good song. great band. |

i think it's like a letter to the ex. obviously. but the second part of the chorus "if you dont like being hurt..." is almost him reliving everything she said to him in a mocking way. and i like that verses are the ones that reflect the sadness, and the chorus is almost angry at himself and her, just as someone is when their heart is broken. |

i agree with iWant2feelUbreatheMe. the bridge is my favorite, the piano and drum. i like how this song moves from peaceful and pretty piano to the strong chords, back to the piano- if i were in an analytical mood, and wanted to be a dork, i'd relate it to an actaul hurricane...in the calm begining, strong middle, peaceful "eye of the storm" on the bridge, back to strong storm, ending with clam, after the storm.
but i'd only say that if i felt like being a dork. as for the meaning of the song...it's getting into a relationship you;re scared of. i also have a feeling he's scared of this person, scared that he'll be pushed away. |

first i want to start by saying this reminds me of a friend of mine on multiple levels. he played the CD constantly over the summer when i worked with him, but the song definetly describes a part of his life with his ex.
it's a song completly based on denial. how many times have we told ourselves, told others we're over a person whe we clearly arent? he's basically saying "I was your soulmate, i've known you forever, but i swear, i could get over you".

i agree with ThisIsPriss. i just have to mention how much i love the repetition, not only of the "i am fine", but of the piano- so mellowing, completely going along with the concept of the song.
and i love the background- the violin the (i believe) cello, it adds so much to the song. it gives me the chills. |

i love the title. becuase it's not a love song, but if oyu dont pay attention, you would think it is. he's realizing that they put the space between them, and things are better than they were. "why can we talk this way we always speak when you're so far away " together, they probably fought a lot, but it's a case of absence makes the heart grow fonder- "maybe this is just what i need maybe i'm wrong". |

BigRicks - i hated this song live. when i saw them all the back-up vocals (and most of the chorus) was pre recorded. and they made no attempt to sing along with it, or even fake it. no one was near the mics, and you hear brett's voice. kind of made us think of milli vanilli. maybe b/c it was a show that had a lot of record big wigs, but i still was dissappointed. not to mention, any piano for any song (emotion is dea, if i tiold you...) was pre recorded as weel. there was no key board in sight.
regardless, the song still makes me cry. it's just holding onto something that you know you cant hold onto anymore, but you try so desperatly to cling to. it's telling someone you have to walk away, and say that final goodnight. |

the first verse never fit to me. but the rest of it- it;'s letting someone go because you know for the time being it will be better. i see him depressed (hence verse one and shadows) and he needs to let go of the person he loves in order to understand how much he needs them and stop hurting them (i've let you down you've lost your taste). and his insecurities make him wonder if he's worth that much to that person. ":would you ever lose me..." it's a test for their relationshop. because he believes in fate, that it'll all come back to him if it's meant to be. |

It's going well but I'm scared as hell/That she'll figure me out" it's him coming to the reality that he's let his defense down. kind of a morning after prospective, where he finds out that "In moderation, this sensation would be fabulous
But she's figured me out" and he's overcome, and sort of panicking that he's been "committed"

this song-the power. it's him being alone- left by a girl, and trying to change himself to be fright for her. and he tells himself that she wants him to be someone else because she loves him, but in reality, he's probably better of without that. but it's one of those post-breakup songs that you feel the guilt almost immediatly. |

when i saw them live with dexter freebish, they actually told the story behind it, as ROsniper18 said. it was so powerful to hear them do it live. there was silence after they finished. and i love how the verses are sensative, and quiet, and the chorus has that jarring reality. |

this song has so much to it. it just has so much power, so much anger. i see it as almost the words of a father haunting a son. almost like he's reliving the words of his father, like he's almost reliving it, and retorting with his feelings. ("now you're standing on your soapbox yelling from the rooftops everything you say is a lie") he's tired of being preached to, and realizing his father doesnt have the answers but still demands the utmost respect. and he feels he has to be strong, he has to be a "man" he has to be respectful, he has to live up to the expectations of his father, and it's hard. i love how everything stops for "why don't you say that to my face, i've been ripped down torn down so many things", and the end, there's such a rawness, such a hurt, that it almost makes me want to cry for him. |

this is absolutely with out a doubt a song i can listen to for days on end. it has to be the worlds most calming song. for me, it relates to everything. and the fact that it's just under 2 minutes- i dont think it needs more, because it says it all. and it's frustration, and hopelessness, and it's reaching our to grab someone, telling them you understand, and then watching them miss your hand. and you can almost hear the desperation, and him finally walking away. he moves from wanting to protect the innocent ("And the least they ever gave you Was the most you ever knew ") to realizing he cant ("You're not listening anyway") and the last chord of that song makes me cry everytime. |
