| Virgin Black – Our Wings Are Burning Lyrics

I'd have to say, I don't always understand all of Virgin Black's lyrics, even after reading them 50 times. For example, the first line in this song. It sounds really cool, but I'm not sure what it means. "pain of a severed soul" sounds like he's talking about the pain of being a soul seperated from God - the pain of being alive on this Earth. The next few lines sound like a really cool way of expressing worship. "And my own pulluted breath, I speak the old man's words in a pursuasive eloquence" - My own polluted breath, in my opinion, is him humbling himself and "old man" is often a term used to describe a father, or in this case, Father God as he speaks his words in a persuasive eloquence. "This unlamented head" - kind of different from the usual Virgin Black lyrics, but cool nonetheless. Again, as cool as "On the crest of fire, our wings are burning, how glorious the pain" sounds, I'm not sure what it means either. I'm sure this isn't much help to the reader, but maybe somebody else can explain that one. I'll have to disagree, sort of, with theillusionary on the the line about "the ways of God shriek of tune" - to me, this is a classic Virgin Black line about the church going astray. It's not the first time they've wrote about it. All is lost but hope. |

Interesting. I have never heard that about Eric before. Very senseable explanation about the attempts of man to find salvation. Thank you. |

This song says so much about America. I really love this song and the truth it conveys. I am an American citizen and I wouldn't trade that for anything, but America has lots of problems and we are falling away from God. This is leading to more than I (and probably we) can comprehend. "When fascism comes as and angel of light." Oh and by the way, this album - Saviour Machine II - was released in 1994 and has nothing to do with September 11th. It's just prophecy unfolding. |

It's good that this song made all you guys feel so happy and giddy, but just reading these lyrics really does nothing for me. Too me it sounds so mushy and cliched that is almost seems fake. Of course I have never heard of the band before nor have I heard this song, and I listen to a lot of Christian Hardcore - a lot. Check out Zao for some awesome Christian Hardcore lyrics or Saviour Machine for the best Christian Gothic lyrics. |

This song conveys no meaning worth listening to. The language is certainly no help. America has enough problems, music such as this only adds to that. |

hmmm, I don't think tool is all that. Sounds to me like the song is trying to describe most of the underground bands I listen to. These bands have creative, inspirational, well thought through, educated lyrics. Please view the lyrics for Saviour Machine and you will understand what I say. |

ok, so the United States can fight back, but a line needs to be drawn. We shouldn't be using this "War on Terror" as an excuse to go in and bully other nations. I love America, and would not trade my citizenship for anything. But sometimes I wonder if we don't deserve some of what we get... |

Well, I read the first 10 comments here, and I wonder if anybody will read mine. Way at the top there, I fully agree with Blazelet. If anybody would like to see what true lyrics are all about, please look up Saviour Machine or even Zao. These two bands have something worth saying and they say it very well. |

ooooo, nice. I wonder what the song sounds like? The meaning sounds like it is self-explanatory to me, unless there is some hidden meaning I didn't get. |

oh, and as for the meaning - it looks like part of the tribulation to me. Hence the "I thank God I wasn't there" cause he had already been raptured. Sounds like one of the trumpets to me, but I would have to read check with ye old Bible to make sure. |

But what about the whole sudden confusion about him being there? He doesn't even understand why he is there. I think it could go both ways as far as weather or not he is guilty. I imagine Metallica meant him to be guilty, but you never know unless you ask them yourself. |

This sounds like a good song for the holiday. I am a big Christian Gothic fan, my favorite band is Saviour Machine. I have never heard of this band, but it's song titles have a lot of similarities to Saviour Machine. Is this also a Christian Gothic band? |

I don't take the same side as most of America as to what the terriosits did, cause I attempt to look at it from other perspectives. But no religion on this filth ridden planet says to massacre hundreds (that includes you my fellow Christians and George Bush). This song obviously wasn't wrote for that since it was added before it happend, but I had to throw that in there for those of you who are obsessed and would look at it like that. I also think this song expresses some strong emotions so yay for Bob Dylan, but I don't support the whole hate thing as morbid as I am. |

I find it to be about lost souls and how they wonder into the darkness, and away from the light. But the hope of God being there in the end persists - "I've opened doors, I've opened minds, I've opened yours a thousand times, as I wait for you" --amen to that |
