| Modest Mouse – Dashboard Lyrics | 19 years ago |

To Explain Myself: "Oh, the dashboard melted, but we still have the radio." - This chorus line is the summary of the theme. Issac has realized that he has lost his famous sound, so resorts to radio-friendly pop ballads to keep the band alive and pay some bills. If he can't recreate something like or better then older albums, then why not cash in with pop singles. "we've yet to crash, but we still might as well enjoy it." - MM isn't dead yet, but he knows its envitable. Before the band becomes complete shit, he'd like to enjoy some popularity. Now to really explain: Brock got sober during the making of GNFPWLBN and has consequently remained sober since. Clearly, the quality and effort put into the music has dramamtically gotten worse ever since. MM was the stoner jam-band that connected to outsiders and self-loathers, now their jazzy neatly timed 3 minute singles gain younger listeners interested in their unique pop sound. The problem is, Brock may have gotten sober and more optomistic, but that doesn't mean his fans have. I can no longer relate to their happier sound. |

| Modest Mouse – She Ionizes and Atomizes Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Yes I did notice the girl's voice, but its really hard to understand what she's saying. I think she says: "Flourescent lights will always equal empty". Listen for it around the 1:57 mark. |

| Bright Eyes – True Blue Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"Once I had gangrene. I had it real bad. And so the Doc came with his black bag. I said "You know doc, I don't feel well. If you had a blue bag I think I'd get well." So he came right back with a blue sack. He said "Will this do?" I said, "Why not? Yeah." -This line seems like a drug reference. He's been in a continued state of blueness (saddness) and then one day gets gangrene (play on words with the color green) (though I'm not sure what 'green' would represent as an emtional state.) To solve this problem, the doctor brings a black bag, but the narrator requests a "blue sack". I'd say it's downers to prolong the "blues". |

| Modest Mouse – All Night Diner Lyrics | 19 years ago |
ABitterBuffalo - It could be "payment" because the man could be talking about hookers. He's having sex them and once he's almost "there", he starts thinking about how much he owes her to prevent it. In other words, he wants his money's worth. As far as the 8-ball thing is concerned, I have never heard of someone being described as "eight ball" unless drugs were involved (even in apparent 40's "slang"). Oh, and sometimes Olde English 800 is called an 8-ball, if maybe that helps. |

This song reminds me of Clint Eastwood because the drug reference is overwhelming. And the line "Is everybody in?" Is defintely refering to Jim Morrison. |

| Interpol – Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down Lyrics | 20 years ago |
"From crevices caressed by fingers" That is the greatest sensual lyric ever. It's so amazingly erotic. Incase some of you are lost, according to dictionary.com, a crevice is "A narrow crack or opening; a fissure or cleft." |
| Radiohead – Like Spinning Plates Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| On the album version, the music sounds like a beating heart. It's beautiful. | |
| Interpol – Roland Lyrics | 21 years ago |

It's definitely about a drug dealer. "but they caught him with his case in a public place that is what we had feared" |
| Radiohead – No Surprises Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| periwinklebyday - you got the meaning straight on. | |
| Hole – Dying Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| The lyric "under your skin" sounds like herion to me. It sounds like Courtney pleading with Kurt to love her more then he loves herion. | |
| Interpol – Leif Erikson Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Bravo to ObstacleTwo. I completely agree with you and you did a good job describing it. Few things to help you out that you were confused on- "Kid gloves" are leather working gloves made from baby goat skin. The phrase means, "hold on to this gently". "my sentimental side should be held with kid gloves" means that his emtions should be treated gentle because he's sensitive. The other one was, "It’s like learning a new a language, Helps me catch up on my mime". When you try talking to someone who doesn't speak english you use hand gestures and signals (mime) to express what you're trying to say, so that they'll understand. So I think that the lyric means the opposite of what you said. They don't speak the same language (metaphorically) so he's over acting and expressing himself so that she'll understand where he's coming from. Also- the tone to me is not as romantic as you see it. It's more depressing. "She doesn't know that I left my urge in the icebox" shows no lust for her or sexual appeal. It's more like he's turned off by her. He and she are opposites and not meant to be together, it's obivious throughout the song. *Leif Erikson was a Canadian explorer. I have no idea what that has to do with the song.......anyone esle know? |

| Interpol – Specialist Lyrics | 21 years ago |

The Black EP. Best part of this song is- "If you're frustrated then go". Best lyric ever. But this song has too many parts and confusing lyrics to make a simple meaning. I could seriously write my midterm on this song. Probably the easiest explaination is that- he feels used. |

| Elliott Smith – Ballad of Big Nothing Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I think that it shows his lack of conscious due to drug use. He feels like there is no one to stop him and tell him what is right from wrong, 'so why not just do whatever he wants'. I'm not sure about the brother reference. Though it sounds like he wants moral support from his family to help him, but their tired of also having to pick him up everytime he goes down. The word candy appears twice, so the meaning of the two should be the same. But, "throwing drugs to the crowd" doesn't make sense. 'Candy' is meant to be taken in the phrase, "taking candy from a stranger"---meaning->"don't take something sweet from someone unless you know them because of the risk that the sweet is tainted". So he uses the phrase in the beginning as a reference to his music. He's offering something personal and private and the crowd takes it from him, like a little kid taking candy from a stranger. But then he uses it again in reverse. This time he's the little kid whose taking something powerful and dangerous (drugs) from a stranger (dealer). |

Courtney has never gotten the credit she deserves. I'm so tired of people like gl0ws in the dark and Mirax. They really need to get over themselves. |
| Bright Eyes – First Day of My Life Lyrics | 21 years ago |
"But I'd rather be working for a pay check Than waiting to win the lottery." I don't like this line. To me the lottery would be meeting the love of your life (hundreds of thousands of dollars). But he'd rather be working for a pay check (moderate amounts of money). Why? That makes it sound like he's settling for her. However the rest of the song is beautiful. |
| Cursive – Driftwood: A Fairy Tale Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This song reminds me of a controling relationship. The "fairy" treated him like a puppet (Pinnochio). | |
| Bright Eyes – Feeling It (For Ian) Lyrics | 22 years ago |
"Well if throwing up is 'feeling it' then Justin is just not interested." Kinda makes me think that it's about drinking. Just cause it's something that Conor is definately "feeling". Hahaha. Sorry... But then: "Some things you see might not exist but that never lasts that long." Sounds like drug use. I don't know... |
| Bright Eyes – Padraic My Prince Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| It kinda makes me think of abortion. Espeaically: "padriac my prince i have all but died from the sheer weight of my shame." | |
| Bright Eyes – Let's Not Shit Ourselves (To Love and to Be Loved) Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I don't think that this is the first song that Conor has written about failed suicide attempts in. Someone dare to back me up on that? But I really do love this song. I like listening to artists that I agree with and can understand where they're coming from. Conor just says everything on my mind that I'm too scared to say myself. Plus, he is a genuis... |

| Bright Eyes – Laura Laurent Lyrics | 22 years ago |
"Your thoughts have always lain close to mine Yeah, we were both skipping supper." I love the way that he sings this part, he says it with such honesty and saddness. I agree with BetweenFriends. It sounds like he and the person "Laura" had the same type of personality disorders and unforunately "Laura" probably commited suicide from hers. Or maybe it's just sung in the way that Conor doesn't know if she's alive or dead, but he's singing to her like she's probably dead. |
| Bright Eyes – A Line Allows Progress, a Circle Does Not Lyrics | 22 years ago |
"Try to name one thing you like... you used to have such a longer list." I love that part. And I completely agree with what RedMarker said about the depression. |
| Bright Eyes – We Are Free Men Lyrics | 23 years ago |
I'm undetermined on this song. I don't think that I like Conor with someone esle's voice, all duet like. Conor sounds best solo....although I do like it when he's back up by a female, like on "Feburary 15th"......But then I do like the male voice back up in "Drunk Kid Cathloic." Maybe I'm crazy...or maybe I just don't like this particular voice with Conor. I don't know. |
| Bright Eyes – Going for the Gold Lyrics | 23 years ago |
"they will recite their sadness like it's some kind of contest well if it is I think I am winning it" Hhahaa. I just love that line for some reason. He says it like the whole Bright Eyes thing is just a joke. I love it. |
| Bright Eyes – Arienette Lyrics | 23 years ago |
bright.eyed.girl- You are possibly my soulmate....or we share the same mind. That's exactly what I was thinking, seriously, that EXACT way that you put it. I wish that I was his Arienette.... :P |

| Bright Eyes – Pull My Hair Lyrics | 23 years ago |
"It itches so bad that I can't concentrate". I love that line. Getting horny, it's a wonderful thing. |
| Bright Eyes – Kathy with a K's Song Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| I like this song. My name is Kathy. | |
| Bright Eyes – Loose Leaves Lyrics | 23 years ago |
"and prescription pills Well, I take two a day to make my brain behave It never does but who is to say, at least my doctor gets paid" I love it. |
| Bright Eyes – Touch Lyrics | 23 years ago |
I think that those lyrics are wrong. But regardless, this song isn't about 'true love'. Infact I think it's about what goes through your mind during suicide. "I feel my weary heart is put to rest." It just has that vibe to it. |
| Incubus – Are You In? Lyrics | 23 years ago |
I think that the song is mocking pop culture. Like at the part, "When sea foam green is in fashion, are you in?" He means, have you followed the mainstream? Have you bought something just because the magazines say it's in-style? Have you become a follower? Are you in? I also think that that is why it sounds so poppy and not like Incubus. It's trying to sound like mainstream music on purpose. But after saying all that, I do argee with all of you guys, it's not that great of a song.... |
| Pete Yorn – Just Another Lyrics | 23 years ago |
What I love about this song is how he keeps contradicting himself in it. He'll call her his baby, and then in the next line, he'll go and say that she's just another girl, almost like she means nothing to him. I think that this song is about attachment. He likes being in a relationship with her, he likes spending time together and everything of that sort, but he reminds her that even through all this, she's just another girl. |
| Pete Yorn – Lose You Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| I always thought that sounds at the beginning and end of the song from 'Everyday Loves Raymond'.... | |
| Dashboard Confessional – Screaming Infidelities Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Not that it matters, but this song is completely the way I felt when we broke up. It's so much like it that it's scary.... | |
| Dashboard Confessional – Screaming Infidelities Lyrics | 23 years ago |
Jesus there are a lot of posts here..... Anyway, at the part where he says "Your hair is everywhere", what he means is that he can't stop seeing her places. Like for example, my ex-boyfriend had a mohawk and when we broke up, everywhere I looked someone had a mohawk and it drove me crazy. It was like his hair everywhere...lol...bad pun, sorry. Anyway, that's what I get from it. |

| Nine Inch Nails – The Big Come Down Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| Actually this song reminds me of all the shit I went through in High School. Go figure.... | |
| Nine Inch Nails – Closer Lyrics | 23 years ago |
| But wait, what makes you think that he's singing about a girl? | |
